Widower Sheriff Andy Taylor, and his son Opie, live with Andy's Aunt Bee in Mayberry, North Carolina. With virtually no crimes to solve, most of Andy's time is spent philosophizing and calming down his cousin Deputy Barney Fife.
The opening credits were expanded slightly during the original network run. After Opie throws the rock into the lake, the camera shot would change to a close-up of the water rippling, with the logo of the sponsor's product appearing in the middle.

However, in other episodes where Andy and Barney are singing while working or sitting on Andy's front porch, Barney sings "on key".
