At two minutes and 20 seconds into the film, there is a shot of Ernie Kovacs inside a post office, staring at "Wanted" posters on the wall. One of them shows the photograph of a criminal identified as Tolly Devlin. This is the name of the leading character in the 1961 film noir Underworld U.S.A. (1961), released the same year by the same studio that distributed this movie, Columbia Pictures.
Near the beginning of the movie when the narrator is describing Gilbert, he tells of Gilbert's stint as a Navy Lieutenant Junior Grade, and he needing to fix a leak in the galley of a ship. The accompanying shot starting at 2:53 is of Gilbert being swept down a ship's corridor by a rush of water. Later in the movie when they are battling the hurricane aboard ship (a different ship), this exact same shot is used at 57:27 in Gilbert being pushed inside the ship by a tidal wave of water.
