After resigning, a secret agent is abducted and taken to what looks like an idyllic village, but is really a bizarre prison. His warders demand information. He gives them nothing, but only tries to escape.
I will not make any deals with you. I've resigned. I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own. I resign.
There is inconsistency about the location of the village, and whether it is on an island or not, perhaps deliberately: according to The Prisoner: The Chimes of Big Ben it is located in the vicinity of Lithuania and Poland, on the Baltic Sea; according to The Prisoner: Many Happy Returns it is on the coast of Morocco or southern Portugal, possibly an island; it is implied in The Prisoner: Fall Out that the village is in England near London, in Kent county.
The episode "Living in Harmony" does not have opening credits and the series title "The Prisoner" never appears on screen. The episode "Fall Out" also does not have an opening credits sequence, replacing it with a recap of the episode "Once Upon a Time." The series title does appear on-screen, however.
