After Major Waldon Penderton instructs Private L.G. Williams on what yard work he wants done, he stands at attention and receives and returns a salute from Private Williams. Major Penderton is outside in the backyard and wearing no hat. He is, therefore, out of uniform, and any salute would have been inappropriate.
The marks showing on the panicked horse when it was running wild are supposed to be blood. However, it is obvious that it is paint or some kind of pink dye. Additionally, the texture and amount of cuts are not consistent throughout the sequence.
