Composer Harry Sukman did an original theme for the series which was rejected. It was accidentally included on the 1994 release of the John Williams film score, incorrectly labeled as an alternate theme for the film.
Moses Gunn is in Roscoe Lee Browne's role, Jim Davis in John Wayne's role while A Martinez and Robert Carradine play the same character from the original film.
John Wayne did a voice over promo prior to the start of the first show giving his praise for the series.
The TV series features just seven young cowboys instead of the film's eleven. In addition to Martinez and Carradine, Clay O'Brien also returns from the film but here plays Weedy instead of Hardy.
