The early life and career of Vito Corleone in 1920s New York City is portrayed, while his son, Michael, expands and tightens his grip on the family crime syndicate.
Al Pacino worked extensively with Marlon Brando and Richard S. Castellano in the first film, but he worked with neither of their replacements in this film. Many years later, however, he would have the chance. He appeared together with Robert De Niro in Heat (1995), Righteous Kill (2008) and The Irishman (2018). He also appeared with Bruno Kirby in Donnie Brasco (1997).
The godfather was born Vito Andolini, in the town of Corleone in Sicily. In 1901 his father was murdered for an insult to the local Mafia chieftain. His older brother Paolo swore revenge and disappeared into the hills, leaving Vito, the only male ...
In the opening scene when Vito's mother touches Paolo's body, his hand visibly moves. His fingers curl up and that is something a dead body just can't do. He is also seen obviously breathing in the subsequent moments.
As with the first film no opening credits are shown. Although it is now commonplace for films not to have opening credits, it was considered innovative in 1974.
