Rocky Balboa, a small-time boxer, gets a supremely rare chance to fight heavy-weight champion Apollo Creed in a bout in which he strives to go the distance for his self-respect.
According to Sylvester Stallone in the DVD commentary, Rocky's trademark outfit of the black snap-brim fedora and the leather coat came from a local hand-me-down store in the neighborhood where they were filming.

Come on, Spider!
When Apollo gets in the ring he does not have gloves on, this continues until we see the top shot as the microphone is being lowered to the ring announcer, where we see Apollo now has his gloves on.
The film opens with the title of the film scrolling from right to left underscored by music. However, instead of just doing the opening credits for the cast, Rocky is shown boxing. The rest of the credits appear later as Rocky is shown walking down a street, and this time there is nothing underscoring the credits.
