- TriviaOn the documentary about the making of the show on the DVD, singer/composer Paul Williams says that when Jim Henson asked him to write the songs for it, Henson explained that the show was going to be a "trial run" for a proposed Muppet movie to check out whether the Henson company could handle certain technical tasks needed to produce a full-length theatrical feature. When The Muppet Movie (1979) came out two years later, Williams also wrote the songs used in that film.
- Alternate versionsThe first two video releases, from 1982 and 1996, both did not include the scene with a group of bunnies dancing at the talent show. Both of these video releases also had a shortened version of "There ain't no hole in the washtub".

If you can be patient with the songs, you have yourself an underrated Christmas gem
Emmet Otter's Jug-Band Christmas (1977) is a movie my daughter and I recently watched together on Amazon Prime. The storyline follows some poor otters that live on the river where most of what they have was left to them by their father. They do odd jobs for money and singing, and music is their primary source happiness. When a talent contest with a grand prize that could change their lives forever arrives in town, they need to decide if parting with some of their resources to make a living is worth the risk of winning the prize.
This movie is directed by Jim Henson (The Dark Crystal) and contains the voices of Jerry Nelson (Sesame Street, The Count), Marilyn Sokol (Crocodile Dundee 2), Frank Oz (Sesame Street, Grover & Cookie Monster), Dave Goelz (The Muppets, Gonzo) and Henson himself (Kermit).
The settings and creatures showcased in this film are so well done. You really get mesmerized by the setting and circumstances of the characters. The dialogue is good, but the songs do drag on a bit. I absolutely adored the gang in this, and the voices fit the characters perfectly. The storyline unfolds well, and I adored the decisions they had to make, the outcome of the plots and various sub plots and the ultimate conclusion.
If you can be patient with the songs, you have yourself an underrated Christmas gem. I would score this a 9/10 and strongly recommend it.
