Joe Satriani, Eric Johnson, and Steve Vai have announced the G3 Reunion Live album, arriving January 31st. The virtuoso guitarists’ extended jam on Cream‘s “Crossroads” can be streamed now.
The live album was captured during the trio’s performance at the The Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles earlier this year as part of the 2024 G3 reunion tour.
Arriving on 4-lp and 2-cd, the live album recreates the actual format of the G3 concerts: each guitarist performing a distinct set before the three virtuosos take the stage together for an all-out jam session.
The first LP features a full set from Vai; the second LP belongs to Eric Johnson; the third LP is Satriani; and the fourth LP (on splatter vinyl) houses the jam session — a medley of “Crossroads,” Jimi Hendrix’s “Spanish Castle Magic,” and a closing rendition of Steppenwolf’s “Born to Be Wild.”

This article contains spoilers for "Invincible."
The initial premise of "Invincible" is what it would be like to be Superman's son and follow in your dad's footsteps. Mark Grayson/Invincible (Steven Yeun) is the son of Nolan Grayson/Omni-Man (J.K. Simmons), Earth's greatest superhero and visitor from the planet Viltrum. Unfortunately, Viltrum is a fascist empire and Nolan isn't as benevolent as he appears.
"Invincible" season 1 ended with a clash between father and son. Nolan beat Mark to a pulp but flew off in grief after realizing how human he'd become. A question lingering at the season's end was when Omni-Man would return — pretty soon, it turned out.
"Invincible" season 2, episode 3, "This Missive, This Machination!" features Mark called to the alien planet Thraxa; the cliffhanger ending is him coming face to face with the planet's ruler, Nolan. Episode 4, "It's Been A While," opens with a flashback montage (scored to a...

The music video features Lloyd showing off her intense guitar chops, while Hale belts out vocals in a fiery presence.
“Working with Lzzy was honestly a dream come true for me,” Lloyd said in a statement. “I’ve been a fan of hers for years growing up, and when I decided to do a collaborative album, her name was the first one that came to mind. She did such an incredible job at taking such a personal thing and making a song that conveys all the emotion I have felt for years.

Gore Verbinski’s The Ring led the first wave of early 2000s horror remakes that partially defined the era’s landscape alongside Saw torture-porners and other reactionary post-9/11 subgenres. Granted, remakes have always been a foundational pillar that keeps horror reinventing itself decade after decade — but the 2000s were different. Production companies like Platinum Dunes and Dark Castle Entertainment fixated on updating horror favorites from iconic slashers to Vincent Price oldies, banking on nostalgia as an added profitability measure. It’s curious though, because 2003’s The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and others get referenced when conversations think back to what started The Great 2000s Remake Avalanche — The Ring somewhat forgotten in these terms.
That could be because The Ring is based on Hideo Nakata’s Japanese adaptation Ringu (aka Ring), an international ghost story less popular with domestic audiences whose first introduction to Koji Suzuki’s 1991 novel was Verbinski’s Americanization.

The advent of blockchain technology has given birth to Web3, an advanced ecosystem that is decentralized in nature. With the rise of smart contracts, Chainlink has managed to become a leader in the field. However, the emergence of newer altcoins, such as Avalanche, has given rise to competition and challenged Chainlink’s dominance.
Big Eyes Coin (Big) is also another emerging player that is introducing innovative features and tools to showcase its potential and compete with established players. The Boy Who Lived is changing his U.S. streaming address again.
All eight original “Harry Potter” films from Warner Bros. are returning to HBO Max next month, after spending a little less than a year on NBCUniversal’s Peacock.
Starting Sept. 1, the eight wizarding films based on J.K. Rowling’s best-selling novels will be available on HBO Max: “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone,” “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets,” “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban,” “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire,” “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix,” “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince,” and “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” Parts 1 and 2.
When HBO Max launched in May 2020, it included the octet of “Harry Potter” movies — but that was only a three-month carve-out on streaming rights the studio had sold to NBCU. In October 2020, Peacock began streaming the “Harry Potter” movies; now WarnerMedia...

Outside of the Limited Series categories, there appear to be few close races this Emmy season. One exception is Best Actress, where frontrunner “The Crown’s” Emma Corrin faces a potentially historic win from “Pose’s” M.J. Rodriguez. With voting set to begin on Thursday, it’s no surprise that Netflix wants to remind viewers of Corrin’s acclaimed performance as the late Princess Diana.

Elisabeth Moss (“The Handmaid’s Tale”) and Gillian Anderson (“The Crown”) sat down for a virtual chat for Variety‘s Actors on Actors. For more, click here.
When Gillian Anderson and Elisabeth Moss met virtually to talk about their respective roles as Margaret Thatcher on Netflix’s “The Crown” and June Osborne on Hulu’s “The Handmaid’s Tale,” they discussed the benefits of being on long-running television shows, directing and characters they’d like to play again. Anderson detailed how she’d built Thatcher from the inside out, and Moss mused about how “Handmaid’s” might feel different in the Biden era.
And they discovered that they both had come of age as young actors — and young women — between the ages of 23 and 32 on “The X-Files” (Anderson) and “Mad Men” (Moss), and were delighted by the coincidence.

Digital disruption has created a music business that’s sustained by saturation, producing a culture of abundance blurring into excess. Lengthy albums capitalize on this wholesale demand for more by bloating tracklists, which in turn jacks up streaming numbers. At first glance, Culture III, the latest 19-track offering from superstar rap group Migos, appears to be another overlong playlist disguised as a studio album, much like their underwhelming 2018 release Culture II.
Culture III is not Culture II, though. It’s shorter by 30 minutes, with six fewer songs. But what truly distinguishes the two is mindfulness.

From upside down PlayStation 5s to the global dominance of “Genshin Impact” and the biffed launch of “Cyberpunk 2077,” the year in video games has been as topsy-turvy as the year in, well, every other regard. But for all of the industry’s unpredictability, games kept delivering the goods no matter how grim things got out there; “Hades” would’ve been great even if didn’t feel so close to home, and the “Demon’s Souls” remake would’ve sold us on the promise of the next generation even if the bleak world of Boletaria didn’t unexpectedly turn into an oasis, but even the darkest games gave players a cathartic degree of control at a time when a sense of helplessness became a pandemic unto itself.

“It became a very creative editing process,” explains Jessica Hobbs about directing the closing episodes of the upcoming fourth season of “The Crown,” which had not finished filming when the industry shut down in March. Showrunner Peter Morgan resolved never to film the missing scenes; Hobbs reveals in her exclusive interview with Gold Derby that she is currently doing post-production virtually from a family vacation in Greece (watch the video above). She explains, “We wanted to deliver to Netflix — people are hungry to see new material and hopefully, they’ll love it when they see it. Hopefully, they won’t notice!” Hobbs says about the process, “I was actually really grateful for the creative focus of, ‘Okay, how else can we tell this story with what we’ve got?’ And we really succeeded. The actors were really blown away and Peter was delighted, so it was great, but it was...

Peter Morgan had two more weeks of shooting on “The Crown” Season 4 when the pandemic shut down the Netflix series. And he never looked back. As post-production forged ahead, the showrunner and his editors had to figure out how to finish the last episodes.
“One day I’ll tell you what holes were missing,” Morgan said on the phone from London. “Hopefully you won’t notice. I’ve done my best. For the final block, one director [Jessica Hobbs] was filming three separate episodes. A couple of scenes were missing from each one. Having looked at them, we [could] just about get away with it. She will forever rue not being able to shoot them. The price of waiting would have meant to not get the show out on the same schedule. When it came to choosing an artist to sing a theme song for HBO’s documentary series “I’ll Be Gone in the Dark” (which has its finale tonight), it’s far from inconceivable that the producers might have looked just as a matter of course to Aimee Mann. Speaking of the dark, she’s a woman who’s spent some time on the non-sunny side of the street — her last album was titled “Mental Illness,” after all, even if the neuroses it surveyed didn’t rise to the level of the serial killings recounted in the HBO series. And Mann is maybe one of the few contemporary artists with the stature and gravitas to be mentioned in the same breath as Leonard Cohen — whose “Avalanche” is the song being used as the title theme — without any balkers.
But the connection was much more personal than that. “The producers wanted that Leonard Cohen song,...

"Why do you always take his side?" Indie Rights has released a new official trailer for a relationship drama titled Avalanche, which has been confirmed for a release this year. From writer & director Todd L. Green, the film is about a librarian, his wife, and her lover who become trapped in a house together and are forced to deal with the fallout of their indiscretions. This stars Stelio Savante, Autumn Withers, and Gideon Emery in the three lead roles. We featured the first trailer last year, but now that it has distribution they've pulled that and replaced it with another trailer. This looks super low budget, and still feels like a stage play more than a feature film, but hopefully it has enough intriguing relationship drama to pull some viewers in. I am Chaos, the Bringer of Death. That is what runs through my mind every time I sit down to play Just Cause 4. The fourth game in the storied Square Enix franchise has taken all of the foundations laid in the previous games and brought it all together in one chaotic — and incredibly fun — experience that is sure to ignite the flames of destruction in even the tamest of players.
I had the pleasure of getting some hands-on time with Just Cause 4 last month at a press event in Los Angeles, and playing this now-finished build is a continuation of the insanity I experienced then. Rico Rodriguez is back, this time helping the population of the island of Solis to rebel against yet another dictator, a private army called Black Hand, and its leader, Gabriela Morales. Actors Naomi Watts and Christoph Waltz and filmmaker Taika Waititi (“Thor: Ragnarok”) have joined the main jury of the Venice Film Festival, which will be presided over by director Guillermo del Toro, the winner of last year’s Golden Lion for “The Shape of Water.”
Also on the panel are Taiwan’s Sylvia Chang, director of “Love Education,” which opened last year’s Tokyo FILMeX fest; Danish actress Trine Dyrholm, who was in Venice last year as the star of “Nico, 1988”; French director-actor Nicole Garcia (“Place Vendome”); Italian director Paolo Genovese (“Perfect Strangers”); and Poland’s Malgorzata Szumowska, director of “Mug,” which won this year’s Berlin Silver Bear Grand Jury Prize.
Waltz was on the Lido last year as one of the stars of opener “Downsizing.” Watts was in Venice in 2016 with boxing drama “The Bleeder,” directed by Liev Schreiber. It will be Waititi’s first appearance on the Venice red carpet.

The First trailer for the dark comedy, ‘Avalanche‘ has been released. The film follows a librarian when his wife–along with her lover–become trapped in a house together and are forced to navigate the chaotic fallout of their indiscretions. There’s great bits of comedy sparsed throughout this trailer, and teases the silly situations that our three characters find themselves in.

Everyone knows Woody Allen. At least, everyone thinks they know Woody Allen. His plumage is easily identifiable: horn-rimmed glasses, baggy suit, wispy hair, kvetching demeanor, ironic sense of humor, acute fear of death. As is his habitat: New York City, though recently he has flown as far afield as London, Barcelona, and Paris. His likes are well known: Bergman, Dostoevsky, New Orleans jazz. So too his dislikes: spiders, cars, nature, Wagner records, the entire city of Los Angeles. Whether or not these traits represent the true Allen, who’s to say? It is impossible to tell, with Allen, where cinema ends and life begins, an obfuscation he readily encourages. In the late nineteen-seventies, disillusioned with the comedic success he’d found making such films as Sleeper (1973), Love and Death (1975), and Annie Hall (1977), he turned for darker territory with Stardust Memories (1980), a film in which, none too surprisingly, he plays a...

When last we left "The Vampire Diaries," Bonnie and Damon were holding hands and stepping into The Light. Oh no, right? Well, Ian Somerhalder and Kat Graham are still on the Saturday, July 26 San Diego Comic-Con panel for "The Vampire Diaries," so we somehow suspect they'll be back. Click though and follow along with my live-blog as Julie Plec teases us with hints about the new status quo in Mystic Falls and how long it will last. And we'll get a sense of how fans felt about last year's overdose of dopplegangers and Travelers. 3:50 p.m. The last panel was for NBC's "Grimm" and while it filled the room, there was Zero crowd interest. "Grimm" is a show that probably could have been in 6A or 6Bcf without any problems. It's a Friday success for NBC, but that doesn't mean it's a good Comic-Con show. Apparently. 4:08 p.m.

[This week's "Retro Active" pick is inspired by the based-on-real-life tsunami disaster drama The Impossible.]
A Roger Corman-produced disaster film buried by its own clichéd cheesiness, Avalanche is ludicrous to the point of playing like a parody. As its title makes bluntly clear, Corey Allen's film is fixated on delivering terror via a massive snow slide, though impatient viewers will be disappointed to hear that said catastrophe doesn't arrive until the 54-minute mark—which is to say, long after the various mini-dramas of its characters have been laid out in torturously uninteresting detail. At the center of the cast is Rock Hudson as David Shelby, a Colorado developer determined to finish construction on his hotel resort on a mountain where studly photographer Nick (Robert Forster) warns that the removal of trees is making the slopes unstable. Being a blustery, arrogant prick who could care less about environmentalist warnings, David ignores such cautions, instead spending his time on a brewing scandal...

I find it surprising that some people were surprised when the fact that Rock Hudson was gay was publicly revealed back in the mid-1980s, as the actor became the best-known person with AIDS in the world. After all, even my mother knew about that. Anyhow, today's jaded crowd, looking at the above photograph, will surely assert that it's so obvious that Rock Hudson was gay. Just look at him! I thoroughly disagree. In fact, I don't see anything "obvious" about Hudson's sexual orientation in the photo. And no, I'm not blind. The guy just looks like a man — gay, straight, anything in between — doing his best to appear classy, or at least what used to pass for classy. Personally, I don't find Hudson very convincing as a "classy" type à la Cary Grant. Whatever his sexual predilections, I've always found Rock Hudson much more believable in rugged roles, such...

Actor who co-starred with James Dean in Rebel Without a Cause, he went on to become a TV director
Corey Allen, who has died aged 75, belonged to that category of film actors who became famous by association. Allen played Buzz Gunderson, the motorcycle gang leader in Rebel Without a Cause (1955), opposite James Dean as Jim Stark. Since the recent death of his one-time room-mate Dennis Hopper, Allen was the last survivor among the leading performers in the film. Dean died in a car crash shortly before its release, and Natalie Wood and Sal Mineo also died prematurely.
Buzz was a relatively small role, but an extremely significant and memorable one. Wearing a leather jacket and white T-shirt, which clashes with Jim's bright red jacket, Buzz challenges him to a "chicken run" – driving two stolen cars towards the edge of a seaside bluff at high speed, with the first one to...

We've been sitting on this sweet news for about a week now, waiting to scoop some art or something from the production comapny before we reported on it, but since it seems fairly clear that it's about to break we're muscling forward.
Yes, you read the title correctly. Harlan Ellison's post-apocalyptic short story, "A Boy and His Dog," the one that was made into a movie in 1975 and the very same one that the Japanese want to remake, is heading to the screen as an animated feature. The man behind it? Long-time Writer / director / producer David Lee Miller.
Writer / director David Lee Miller was on our radar last year for his stellar comedy / drama, My Suicide, (review), but he's been in the industry for years. In fact, Miller worked as Second Assistant Director on the Roger Corman produced disaster pic, Avalanche, way back in 1978. So the material would appear to be in good hands.
