  • Two young children are abondoned, defenceless, by their wayward parents. Aged four and eight, they are left to make their way in a hostile world. Miraculously they find refuge with a couple who can give them everyhting they need - comfort, love, and security. Slowly, the wounds begin to heal, and the children come to love and trust their surrogate parents. But fate cares not for the needs of little children, and a day comes when their newfound happiness is shattered. Quite a hard film to find these days and probably a bit of a forgotton and lost gem. If you like tear jerker's, you'll love this!

    Warning: Spoilers
Unlike Julie Andrews, Shirley Jones would follow up her goody two shoes image with these movies and programs where the situation definitely out-weighed her perkiness.

This one and another in which her husband is suffering from Alzheimers and gets too rough for her are remarkable to watch.

Frances Sternhagen as the mother or a relation of one of the biological parents is intriguing as well, when she sides against her kid, she ends testifying in their favor, something the lawyer for Jones expected.

But another scene in which the parents try to give the kids some toys now and be nice to them, resulting in the kids getting upset and especially the boy smashing the toy truck, incredible to behold.

Won't spoil the ending, but it's highly unlikely some of these movies will ever be seen again. It may have been a bit of a cop-out, but Shirley was smiling in the end, and as her performances pretty much deliver, she has to accept what she is given and can't control everything.
