On its maiden voyage in April 1912, the supposedly unsinkable R.M.S. Titanic hits an iceberg in the Atlantic Ocean.
The Titanic survivors are rescued by the R.M.S. Carpathia, which is commanded by Arthur Rostron, played by Philip Stone, who previously voiced Theoden in The Lord of the Rings (1978). In Titanic (1997), the captain of the Titanic, Edward John Smith, is played by Bernard Hill, who played Theoden in The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002) and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003).
J. Bruce Ismay:
Her name, like everything about her, gave promise of something mighty and splendid. They called her Titanic. She was the longest, the tallest, the most luxurious ship in all creation.
Violet Jessop, the only surviving female to pen an account of the sinking, is showcased here as an elderly Stewardess. Jessop born in 1887 would have in fact been only 24-25 years old when she was employed on the Titanic.
