When the Germans are marching through the valley and escorting the Ark to the ceremony, just before Indiana Jones threatens to destroy the ark, Major Arnold Toht removes his hat and wipes the sweat from his prematurely balding head with a handkerchief. In this shot it is clear that his head had been shaved to create that balding pattern, because dark stubble shows the true shape of actor Ronald Lacey's hairline at that time.
