George Lucas also ran into budget problems as a result of ensuring his loan with 20th Century Fox after the release of Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back (1980), to the point of interfering with filming. Richard Marquand had to beg Lucas for a Rancor hand prop to be constructed so that close-ups of Mark Hamill could be filmed.

To compensate for the longer credits, later versions of the film like the special edition and DVD release extend the piece of musical score that plays over the credits.
