Gary Oldman had a confession to make when he appeared on Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast: He is not a fan of his performances as Sirius Black in the Harry Potter franchise. Sitting down with the media journalist during the last days of 2023, Oldman was in good spirits when he admitted, “I think my work is mediocre in [those movies].”
Oldman is referring specifically to when he appeared as the Wizarding World’s most notorious escaped convict, and surprise godfather of Harry Potter, in the films Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004), Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005), and Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007).
“No, I do,” he continued. “Maybe if I had read the books like Alan [Rickman], if I had got ahead of the curve, if I had known what’s coming, I honestly think I would have played it differently.” He went on to elaborate,...

Lillian Crombie and Ningali Lawford-Wolf.
Indigenous performers Lillian Crombie and the late Ningali Lawford-Wolf have been voted joint recipients of the 10th annual Equity Lifetime Achievement Award.
Australian actor, writer and director Wayne Blair was among the 32 members of the Equity National Performers’ Committee who selected Lillian and Ningali for this year’s award.
“Their rich and varied careers have been observed by generations of First Nations performers coming behind them. They have led by example and paved the way for so many others to follow in their footsteps,” says Blair.
A proud woman from the Pitjintjara/Yungkuntjara Nation, Crombie left Port Pirie in South Australia as its best classical ballerina and landed in Sydney in the 1970s to dance her way into Black performance, politics and culture.
Her career as one of Australia’s leading performers followed with roles in Baz Luhrmann’s Australia, The Secret Life of Us,...

She-Ra season 4 both benefits and is hurt by returning to a 13 episode run but it's all worth it to see these characters grow and change.

She-Ra Season 4 is back to being a full thirteen-episode season and with this comes good and bad things. The good is the half season method Netflix has been employing with DreamWorks’ shows has been annoying. These seasons were produced to air as thirteen episode installments and cutting them in half ruined the intent of the writers. It made the pacing feel uneven and you’d usually get one half with a lot of set-up and another half with most of the payoff.
With the full season restored the season as a whole flows better. There isn’t an awkward start of stop. Everything progresses in a logical way and the character arcs track better. Even if some characters don’t get a...

I have my issues with the haphazard plotting that Orange Is The New Black can fall into during the middle section of its seasons, but I can’t deny that the show knows how to use it to its advantage as its stories start to converge. I went into “Double Trouble” feeling like the season had failed to generate much…...

It's no secret that Katey Sagal has range. The actor played the big-haired Peggy Bundy on Fox's "Married With Children" for 11 years before segueing effortlessly into the role of one-eyed alien Leela on "Futurama." She's also made a few heartbreaking appearances on the ABC drama "Lost" as the woman who got away from John Locke. Still, even her biggest admirers were likely unprepared for her Machiavellian turn in the FX hit "Sons of Anarchy" as Gemma, a member of an outlaw motorcycle gang in Northern California. Manipulating her son and husband with moves that would make Lady Macbeth blush, Sagal makes for one bad mother. The actor had an edge in landing the job; the show was created by Kurt Sutter, a former writer-producer on "The Shield" and Sagal's husband of five years. But the part wasn't just handed to her. "It wasn't as easy as my husband saying, 'I've...
