On the dashboard of Burt and Vicki's car is a copy of Night Shift, the Stephen King short story collection in which Children of the Corn originally appeared.
What's going on here?
Richard 'Amos' Deigan: My passage. It is my birthday.
Burt: You've got a pretty sick way of celebrating, pal!
Burt and Vicky are traveling through Nebraska, and Vicky pulls out a typical Kansas-Nebraska map. Kansas on one side, and Nebraska on the other. The front shot clearly shows that she is looking at the wrong side of the map. Nebraska is facing the camera.
The next shot is from the side, showing that they are looking at the Kansas side of the map, while discussing both real and imaginary Nebraska locations.
Incidentally, the real Nebraska locations of Grand Island and Hemingford are not near Kansas, or each other for that matter.
