One of the highlights at India’s Cinevesture International Film Festival and market was a frank, philosophical on-stage chat between veteran filmmaker Shekhar Kapur and his singer-songwriter-composer daughter Kaveri.
Shekhar Kapur is known for his eclectic oeuvre that spans Indian films “Masoom” and “Mr. India,” hard-hitting biopic “Bandit Queen,” the Oscar-winning “Elizabeth,” starring Cate Blanchett, “The Four Feathers,” starring Heath Ledger, and recent romcom “What’s Love Got to Do with It?”
When asked to reveal something unknown about himself, Shekhar Kapur spoke about his hidden fears, saying that people who think he is cool don’t “see the panic in my head every morning.”
“Fear drives me. I find panic is a huge form of creativity. When I, for example, shoot a film, I plan like a general going to war because you never know where the bullet is coming from. And then when I get to the set… suddenly,...

Anil Kapoor’s Fighting Spirit: On Four Decades of Film, the ‘Slumdog’ Effect, and One Heck of a Year
Anil Kapoor still gets meetings he can trace back to “Slumdog Millionaire.”
Chatting with IndieWire shortly after the premiere of Viacom18’s “Fighter,” the Indian actor is one of the rare global stars to enjoy “crossover success” — a buzzy term that, these days, seems to mean less crossing over and more crossing back-and-forth. Indian film stars, once compelled to journey West to Hollywood, now enjoy rich storytelling opportunities at home that also exist abroad. Between “Fighter,” “Animal,” a remake of “The Night Manager,” and daughter Rhea’s TIFF premiere, Kapoor’s last 12 months demonstrate the diversity of projects available for Indian actors today — though he still gets the most worldwide acknowledgement for “Slumdog.”
“I get really surprised sometimes at the kind of people who still know me, still remember me, and want to work with me. It’s still continuing,” Kapoor told IndieWire. “As a matter of fact, I insist...

When the going gets tough, Bollywood thinks big. Reeling under the twin effect of the pandemic and Ott influx, which have dented business, Bollywood is pulling all stops with mega-budget announcements, to woo fans back to the halls. Among emerging trends is the superhero movie.

But at no point in time has the Hindi film industry got into making so many superhero flicks at the same time as now. Trade analysts see it as a good trend, especially in these times when theatres are trying to pull the audience back amid the pandemic.
Hollywood, of course, is a big influence, as everything else about Bollywood. Global blockbusters as "The Dark Knight" series", the "Avengers" films, "Black Panther", "Wonder Woman", "Captain America: Civil War", and "Justice League" among others set the cash registers ringing in India,...

Exclusive: The impact of this global film and TV production shutdown is going to be felt for time to come, and perhaps nowhere more so than in India, where the world’s most prolific film industry has been forced to go on hiatus.
Bollywood produces up to 2,000 movies per year, dwarfing the number made in Hollywood. The production machine needed to facilitate that level of activity means the country has a colossal, widespread industry working on all manner of projects every day of the week. The coronavirus lockdown saw all production in the nation go on hiatus from March 19, and there’s no clear timeframe for it to resume. However, the Producer’s Guild Of India submitted its safety measures for resuming on-set shoots to the government this week, an important first step towards a return to work.
In Mumbai, India’s Los Angeles, producer Boney Kapoor – whose long career...

Guess there is a lot more that would be heard and spoken about Mr. India 2 and the controversy surrounding it for many more days and weeks to come. Ever since it was announced that filmmaker Ali Abbas Zafar would help a trilogy on the subject, filmmaker Shekhar Kapoor has brought out his daggers condemning the announcement of the film. While there are many who have welcomed the announcement of the film(s), considering the cult status that the Anil Kapoor, Sridevi and Amrish Puri starrer has enjoyed for decades, there are detractors too.
As a matter of fact Shekhar Kapoor has hinted that he may take a legal recourse pertaining to the film’s announcement since he wasn’t involved in its conceptualization and subsequently the announcement. This is where certain members of the industry are wondering if the move would indeed be justified. Reason being that a long time back,...

Dussera is surely making all the right noise with the festival being onboard with just few days away. The festival which celebrates the victory over Raavan by burning an effigy of it with a fire lit bow and arrow is all that we need to see.
Speaking on Raavan, Raavan is known for kidnapping Sita, the wife of Ram and having a war with Ram and Hanuman. Ram with his powerful arrow, took down Raavan.
But what if we tell you that like Raavan, we also have a lot of villains and antagonists who bore the wrath of people but thanks to a few good men their dominations couldn't last long.
Taking an example, we have Gabbar Singh, Mogambo, Kancha Cheena (both Danny Dengzonpa and Sanjay Dutt), Shaakaal, Dr. Dang and many more to go. We see that the most common point is the fact that these above characters have...

Actress Sonam Kapoor Ahuja will be seen in "The Zoya Factor" soon. She feels she does her best while acting in comedy films.
"I think I like to skip genres with every film so, my last few films have been 'Veere Di Wedding, 'Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga', 'Padman', 'Sanju', 'Khoobsurat' and 'Neerja'. I am lucky enough that the directors of those films considered me for those roles. I think I do my best in comedy films but the audience thinks I do better in films like 'Raanjhanaa' and 'Neerja'. I don't know what is my genre but I enjoy doing comedy a lot. I feel very comfortable and easy while doing comedy. I don't think there are many films being made these days especially which are just carefree and fun with content in the backdrop,...
