Although Phoebe Tonkin was in the 2012 shark thriller Bait and the high profile 2022 flop Babylon, most viewers probably know her from her work in television: she has been on multiple episodes H2O: Just Add Water, Home and Away, The Secret Circle, The Vampire Diaries, The Originals, Westworld, Safe Harbour, and more. I just finished watching a Netflix series she was in, Boy Swallows Universe, which I thought was pretty great. Now Tonkin has the lead role in a thriller called Night Shift, which just received a VOD and limited theatrical release today, courtesy of Quiver Distribution. To help you figure out whether or not Night Shift is a movie you’d like to see, we have a clip and the film’s trailer embedded above.

Australia’s federal government has tweaked the rules of its producer offset system so that soap operas and other drama series can qualify for subsidy. Channel Seven’s “Home and Away” will become newly eligible.
The producer offset gives a tax rebate to producers for expenditure on eligible Australian films, television and other projects. Currently, a drama series must spend at least A$500,000 per hour in qualifying Australian production expenditure (costs incurred for goods and services used or provided in Australia).
It provides a 40% rebate for feature film and a 30% rebate for productions on other platforms, calculated as a percentage of a production’s qualifying Australian production expenditure.
With the new system, drama series that spend at least $35 million ($23.5 million) per season in qualifying Australian production expenditure, but fall short of the per hour spending requirement, will be newly eligible for the offset.
The new per season threshold will apply...

A full house greeted Chris Hemsworth as he dropped into the Red Sea Film Festival for an In Conversation event with jury head, Baz Luhrmann. It was something of an Oz fest as the beginning of the conversation was dominated by George Miller and littered with references to fellow antipodean superstars like Hugh Jackman, Nicole Kidman and Mel Gibson. It was natural Miller was predominant as Hemsworth had flown directly from Comic Con in Brazil, where the first trailer of Miller’s “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” was premiered.
“There was a lot of enthusiasm,” Hemsworth said. “We finished filming a year and a bit ago, so there was a lot of anticipation from me and the fan base.” Both Luhrmann and Hemsworth credited Miller as an inspiration on their careers. Spyder Dobrofsky is probably not a name you would expect to see credited on Christmas-themed TV movies, but that’s exactly how Dobrofsky got started out, working on the scripts for such flicks as The Housewives of the North Pole and One Christmas Wish, as well as Mom’s Day Away. When he made his feature directorial debut, it was on a movie called Spiral, which was something you’d expect to see a Spyder credited with: a mystery thriller. Now Deadline has broken the news that Dobrofsky is working on a holiday horror movie called Down Below… and he has assembled a solid cast for the project. The legendary Eric Roberts (The Dark Knight) stars alongside Bai Ling (The Crow), Alexis Knapp (Pitch Perfect), and Doug Jones, who is best known for his creature (or heavily made up) performances in films like The Shape of Water, Hellboy, and Hocus Pocus.

A new NCIS spinoff is coming to CBS. NCIS: Sydney, the first international-set entry in the NCIS franchise, follows a joint team of American NCIS agents and Australian Federal Police officers as they investigate naval crimes in one of the most contested parts of the ocean on the planet. Will the new show fill the void left by NCIS, which has had its season 21 premiere date delayed because of the Hollywood strikes? We’ll have to wait and see, but in the meantime, here’s everything you need to know about NCIS: Sydney.
What is ‘NCIS: Sydney’ about?
In NCIS: Sydney, officers from the Afp – Australia’s equivalent of the FBI – work hand-in-hand with NCIS agents as part of a multinational task force charged with keeping naval crimes in check. But working together doesn’t mean that everyone gets along, as seen in the trailer (via YouTube) when Afp sergeant...

NCIS fans deeply miss Mark Harmon as Leroy Jethro Gibbs. Harmon joined the series when it debuted in 2003, and he played Gibbs for 19 seasons before leaving the series completely. He’s undoubtedly missed among NCIS lovers, and they hope for his return to the show at some point. So, should NCIS fans give up hope that they’ll see Harmon return? Here’s his one condition that could convince him to rejoin.
Mark Harmon may return to ‘NCIS’ for the ‘right story’
Mark Harmon said farewell to NCIS in season 19, episode 4, “Great Wide Open.” Leroy Jethro Gibbs is certainly missed, as there’s no other character like him in the series. So, is there any chance that fans could see Harmon return to the small screen for more NCIS in the future?

Not so long ago, the only Australian TV shows imported by the UK and US were soaps and the odd kids’ series. Neighbours, Home & Away, Prisoner: Cell Block H, Heartbreak High, and child trauma factory Round the Twist went overseas, but not much else.
It didn’t make for a very complete picture. 30 years ago, if you’d asked a British person to conjure up Australia based solely on its available TV output, they’d have pictured a land of bait shops, haunted lighthouses, prison wings, and cul de sacs where good neighbours become good friends. Ask one now, and thanks to streaming, it’d be a much broader church, based on viewing comedies, thrillers, dramas, detective shows and more.
Here are some of the best Australian TV series currently available to stream in the UK and US. We’ll update this selection as new series arrive.

Channel 5 has been praised for being the only UK public service broadcaster not to show any Queen-related coverage on Monday 19 September, the day of Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral.
While BBC One, BBC Two and ITV all aired the funeral live and Channel 4 showed a documentary on the Queen, Channel 5 chose to air animated children’s film The Emoji Movie.
The choice went down well with some viewers. One tweeted that they “don’t understand the criticism of Channel 5 for showing The Emoji Movie during the queen’s funeral”, adding: “What are kids of families who don’t have paid TV/streaming supposed to do otherwise, sit and watch people in suits look overly sad for six hours?”
“Channel 5 deserve a lot of respect for this,” another posted. “Airing an entire day’s worth of kid and family-friendly content to give us a break from wall-to-wall bleakness is a great move.

Paramount-owned British network Channel 5, Australia’s Network 10 and Fremantle are looking to a post-Neighbours future and working on a primetime thriller from Neighbours exec Jason Herbison, starring Stay Close actor Jo Joyner.
Filming will get underway shortly in Australia on four-parter Riptide, which will follow Alison (Joyner), whose life is plunged into despair when her new Australian husband vanishes after a morning surf. It quickly becomes obvious there is more to the story than meets the eye as she sets out to investigate his disappearance.
Joyner will play the lead and Herbison created the show. He was an exec on Channel 5/Network 10 miniseries Lie With Me and Neighbours, the soap produced by Fremantle for Channel 5 and Network 10’s (and streamer 10 Peach) that is about to end after three-and-a-half decades, as the UK network pushes further into original drama such as Riptide.
Joining Joyner is Ciarán Griffiths and Australian actors David Berry, Peter O’Brien, Ally Fowler (Wentworth), Pia Miranda, rising stars Benny Turland, Asher Yasbincek and Yazeed Dahar, and newcomers Benjamin Samaddar and Sonya Suares.
“Lie With Me proved incredibly popular with our viewers and I’m looking forward to expanding our drama slate even further, working hand in hand with our production partners Fremantle Australia and Network 10,” said Greg Barnett, Commissioning Editor, Factual Entertainment, Unscripted, Channel 5 & Paramount+.
