Henri Bollinger, a five-time president of the Publicists Guild and a fixture for decades at its signature Publicists Guild Award luncheon, died Monday at the Motion Picture & Television Fund campus in Woodland Hills of complications from surgery, Deadline has learned. He was 89.
Bollinger’s Hollywood publicity career spanned 60 years. He joined the then-Publicists Guild of America in 1957, the second year of its existence.
Recalling those early years to writer Ed Crane in the Publicists Awards’ 50th anniversary program, Bollinger said, “attendance at General Membership meetings ranged between 150-200 members. In those days you were fined $15 if you missed a meeting [held usually at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel] without a valid reason.”
He served for more than 55 years on the Publicists Awards Committee, which organizes the annual ICG Publicists Awards Luncheon held at the Beverly Hilton. He was chairman of the committee for 37 years, retiring from that position earlier this year, though remaining a committee member.

Like many folk, I knew nothing of paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren until James Wan’s theatrical release The Conjuring (2013). So as I scoured the TV graveyard to unearth another relic from yesteryear, I came across 1991’s The Haunted – an account of the terrifying (and long) haunting that beset the Smurl family from the mid 70s to the late 80s, and one in which the Warrens helped out. And while it doesn’t quite reach the heights of Wan’s modern classic, it is nevertheless a satisfying addition to the Warren legacy, and a great showcase for Sally Kirkland as the besieged Smurl matriarch.
Originally broadcast on the Fox network on Monday, May the 6th, 1991, The Haunted had tough competition: ABC had MacGyver/ABC Monday Night Movie, CBS aired Evening Shade/Major Dad/Murphy Brown/Designing Women, and NBC had Fresh Prince/Blossom/NBC Monday Night at the Movies.

After all, Driver’s performance as family matriarch Maya Dimeo proved to be such a force of nature, the World Meteorological Organization really ought to honor the actress by naming the next big tropical depression after her.
Driver needed only the two-minute cold open — in which Maya maniacally sped the family van to a pancake house to redeem an almost-expired coupon — to establish the brashly funny, refreshingly...

It’s been a year and a half now since Parenthood went off the air (Rip, Zeek), and it left a gaping void on NBC — and all the major networks, really — in the heartfelt-family-drama category. These days, it’s nearly impossible to find a network drama that isn’t about cops or doctors or superheroes or vampires, but instead about real people and their everyday problems.
In an effort to cure our Braverman withdrawals, NBC gives us This Is Us (premiering Tuesday, Sept. 20 at 10/9c): a kindhearted, acutely observed family drama that presents four stories that are loosely connected...

Access Hollywood talked with Finn Jones about the upcoming season of Game of Thrones. Sadly, he says, “There’s not enough hot gay sex for Loras this season.” I’m going to sit in a corner where I will think about Daenerys dispensing justice with her dragons and Lady Olenna dropping wit bombs until I’m excited about the new season.
Come on, HBO, who is going to fill Lafayette’s shoes once True Blood ends?
Adrianne Palicki will be appearing in a story arc on NBC’s upcoming dramedy About a Boy, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

After last week’s incredibly visceral, emotionally draining episode of Southland, it’s hard to imagine that tonight’s season 5 finale could have any juice left, but according to the stars of the show, the finale delivers the same shock factor, albeit slightly less graphic.
We caught up with four stars of the show — Ben McKenzie, Shawn Hatosy, Michael Cudlitz and Regina King — to talk about where their characters are headed in what could potentially be Southland’s series finale (if TNT decides against ordering a season 6). Here’s what tonight’s episode has in store:

Gerald McRaney may be in his mid-60s, but he hasn't slowed down a bit. After terrifying the tarnished souls of HBO's "Deadwood" as murderous tycoon George Hearst, the "Major Dad" star went on to be a regular on CBS' "Jericho" and NBC's short-lived "Undercovers," and has appeared in USA's "Fairly Legal," A&E's "Longmire," Netflix's new "House of Cards" and FX's "Justified" -- where he was last seen on Feb. 12 having a blowtorch almost applied to his butchered leg.
"I don't think I bled out," McRaney tells Zap2it over lunch in Sherman Oaks, Calif. "The guy did, in fact, cauterize the wound."
McRaney also played Capt. Patrick Murphy in several episodes of CBS' romantic comedy "Mike & Molly," which has a strange connection to Western drama "Deadwood" (which also starred Timothy Olyphant and Jim Beaver of "Justified").

Some might think that Ben McKenzie left The Oc behind when he swapped his wife beater and fists of fury for a police uniform and a gun. But believe it or not, McKenzie’s small-screen career choices have one little thing in common: prison.
Last night, McKenzie told Conan the story of a surprising fan encounter. For those of you who don’t know what Southland is, it’s an expertly executed TNT drama about cops in L.A. starring the likes of Michael Cudlitz, Shawn Hatosy, Regina King, and Ben McKenzie. The show presents a sometimes shockingly realistic portrayal of being a cop in the perhaps not-so-appropriately named City of Angels. From the in-your-face camera angles to the inner demons of the characters themselves, Southland is known for being gritty and dramatic, and the fifth season opener is no different.

Over the last decade and a half, much has been made in critical circles about the “coming of age” of dramatic television programming. Since The Sopranos began to become a cultural touchstone, HBO has been a central part of that discussion, with some broadly suggesting that its most beloved dramas – particularly The Sopranos (1999-07), The Wire (2002-08), and Deadwood (2004-06) – began to outstrip the greatness of contemporary American film by bringing cinematic flair to projects with a necessarily much larger scope. While that contention is subjective, it does begin to suggest what separates these programs (as well as other revered non-pay-cable series like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, WB/Upn 1997-03) from many of their contemporaries: with each series, to varying degrees, the influence of the series’ respective showrunners/creators is plainly evident. Buffy is consistently informed by Joss Whedon’s sense of pop-culture awareness and devotion to clear emotional stakes,...

One of the reasons World War II is called the last good war is that the stakes were clear and unambiguous. Those years spawned countless stories of heroism, sacrifice, and loss that never cease to fascinate subsequent generations. Some movies have gone to great lengths to recreate what the horrors of war must have been like while others go for a different approach, going for a stark contrast to exemplify the acts of one or a few. The pilots resulting from the Tuskegee training program deserve proper treatment in mass media of their experiences.

Film is set in 1944. As the war in Europe continues to take its toll on Allied forces, the Pentagon brass has no recourse but to consider unorthodox options -- including the untried and untested African-American pilots of the experimental Tuskegee training program. Just as the young Tuskegee men are on the brink of being shut down and shipped back home, they are given the ultimate chance to show their courage. Against all the odds, with something to prove and everything to lose, these intrepid young airmen take to the skies to fight for their country -- and the fate of the free world. Thoughts by Tsr: Django Unchained, Quentin Tarantino’s follow-up to Inglourious Basterds, is my most anticipated film of 2012. I made it known I was less than enthused when Jamie Foxx was announced for the title role, but I’ve since grown on the idea of Foxx playing the freed slave out for revenge on his evil plantation owner. Every other casting decision has been spot on. Leonardo DiCaprio is set to play the aforementioned plantation owner, Christoph Waltz will play a German bounty hunter who assists Django, and Kevin Costner will also be involved in a villainous role.

Sure, sure, sure. Samuel L. Jackson has finally confirmed he’ll team with Quentin Tarantino for a fifth time, but the real excitement coming from the bowels of Django Unchained is that Gerald McRaney has also secured a role. Some may think McRaney could be the career Tarantino resurrects this time around, but he’s already come back strong with appearances in Get Low, The A-Team and the forthcoming Red Tails. There’s your indie, your action flick, and your historical prestige film. Now, he’ll be in a Tarantino slavesploitation movie. The superfecta. The role is unknown at this point, according to /film, but McRaney is a veteran with a lot of chops, even though he usually finds himself playing the gruff military man. He’s clearly done more television work (crushing it as the star or co-star of stuff like Major Dad and Deadwood), but with the last few years, he...

Almost as soon as we started hearing about Quentin Tarantino's next film, "Django Unchained," it's been a foregone conclusion that the director's frequent collaborator Samuel L. Jackson would be somehow involved. Now, we finally have confirmation of Jackson's role in the new southern-fried western, as well as news about another recently cast actor: Gerald McRaney.
