William Shatner played the beloved Captain Kirk in the "Star Trek" franchise on and off for nearly 30 years, but he wasn't always comfortable with the role. The shows and films themselves were fine; the issue was that he didn't quite know how to handle the fandom. He was bewildered by all the dressing up and the seemingly-obsessive questions fans asked him; at one point, fans attempted to tear off his clothes as he was walking out of 30 Rockefeller Plaza, and at another point someone tried to shoot him at a fan event in Germany.
Simply put: by 1986, Shatner was getting sick of the Trekkies, so when he hosted "Saturday Night Live" that year he decided to let them have it. He played himself in a sketch at a "Star Trek" convention where he snapped at the fans, telling them, "Get a life!

Domo arigato, Mr. Bob O. We all know Steve Carell as Michael Scott, but before he landed the role of World’s Best Boss at Dunder-Mifflin, several other names were in the running. But one standout is Bob Odenkirk, who had a comedy background to be sure but admits his particular style wouldn’t have fit The Office.
Appearing on Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey’s Office Ladies podcast, Odenkirk explained why he didn’t get the lead role on The Office, which would eventually land Steve Carell six Emmy nominations for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series. “I am, in a strange way, a very earnest person for a person in comedy. I am oddly earnest, and…it’s one of the reasons I think Steve Carell is a better, you know — is the one who got the role.” He added that Carell has a leg up – hopefully...

Despite the negative reviews the new historical epic Napoleon has received from the French press, its acclaimed filmmaker Ridley Scott remains unfazed.
The film stars Joaquin Phoenix as the notorious French emperor and Vanessa Kirby as his wife, Joséphine de Beauharnais.
Reviews for the biographical drama are mixed with a wide variety of opinions. While The Guardian‘s Peter Bradshaw awarded it five stars, French GQ criticized the film for its “deeply clumsy, unnatural, and unintentionally funny” portrayal of French characters with American accents.
Other French publications have targeted Scott’s latest film.
Le Figaro, a daily newspaper, suggested that the film could be reimagined as “Barbie and Ken Under the Empire.”
Napoleon biographer Patrice Gueniffey stated in Le Point magazine that Scott’s rendition presented a “very anti-French and very pro-British” reinterpretation of historical events.

During the lengthy press tour for “Killers of the Flower Moon,” director Martin Scorsese has not shied away from discussing his mortality. “I think about it all the time,” the 81-year-old Scorsese told GQ in an interview published in September. Speaking to Deadline earlier in the year, the Oscar-winning director said it was “too late” for him to even consider taking any kind of break.
“I’m old. I read stuff. I see things. I want to tell stories, and there’s no more time,” Scorsese said. “[Akira] Kurosawa, when he got his Oscar, when George [Lucas] and Steven [Spielberg] gave it to him, he said, ‘I’m only now beginning to see the possibility of what cinema could be, and it’s too late.’ He was 83. At the time, I said, ‘What does he mean?’ Now I know what he means.”

He’s won prizes from the Golden Globes, Cannes, and the Directors Guild, but Ridley Scott has never won a little gold man.
The 85-year-old filmmaker, readying to unleash his Joaquin Phoenix-starring epic “Napoleon” on the world November 22, gave a characteristically gloves-off interview in The New Yorker this week. (One delightful quote? The director of the likes of “The Counselor” and “Thelma and Louise” and “Robin Hood” said “my choices tend to be random” in terms of what projects he likes to pursue.)
But the topic of how the four-time Academy Award-nominated English director feels about consistently being shunned by the Oscars came up with New Yorker writer Michael Schulman. Scott’s swords-and-sandals saga “Gladiator” won Best Picture in 2001 and revived his career, but as Scott wasn’t a credited producer on the now-classic, the win wasn’t his to take. He lost Best Director that year, as well...

“Napoleon” director Ridley Scott is unbothered by analysis from a critic who called out several inaccuracies in his epic new film, telling him to “get a life.”
The nearly three-hour movie is the 28th feature for the director, who turns 86 on Nov. 30. And he clearly doesn’t have time for nitpicks from TV historian Dan Snow, who pointed out inaccuracies such as “Napoleon didn’t shoot at the pyramids.” Snow even dinged the movie’s tagline, “He came from nothing, he conquered everything,” since the French monarch did not conquer Britain.
“Get a life,” Scott told Snow of his critiques in a New Yorker interview published Monday, echoing William Shatner’s long-ago message to diehard “Star Trek” fans.

As part of the award presentation, Sarajevo will host an open-air screening of the Kaufman-penned Adaptation, directed by Spike Jonze and starring Nicolas Cage, Meryl Streep, Chris Cooper, Tilda Swinton, and Jay Tavare.
From Sarajevo’s statement announcing the award, it appears Kaufman will attend in person to receive the award, but it remains unclear whether the filmmaker will participate in press interviews and to what extent he will discuss his work with the WGA strike ongoing.

Before Charlie Kaufman became the genius screenwriter behind "Being John Malkovich," he was struggling to make it in the entertainment industry. His failures led him to create one of the most unique scripts ever written. The filmmaker would go on to have a storied career, but his big break came from a script he never expected to get made and two scrapped film ideas.
Kaufman began his career as a writer working on a show called "Get a Life." He snagged the job after writing a "very odd spec television show" for series creators Chris Elliot and Adam Resnick, he told Indiewire in 1999. "Adam's scripts were the best thing about 'Get a Life' — and we all tried to write in Adam's voice. That was the job," Kaufman explained to The Guardian.
As much as he admired Resnick, Kaufman was not able to write like him. "It occurred to...

At just 58, Bob Odenkirk has already had enough jobs in Hollywood to fill a lifetime. He started off as a writer at Saturday Night Live, where he penned sketches like “Matt Foley, Motivational Speaker,” later moving over to work on Chris Elliott’s Get A Life, The Ben Stiller Show, and Late Night With Conan O’Brien. He…...

Star Wars and Star Trek collide – in anecdote form, anyway. While on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Ewan McGregor reflected back on the big announcement that he was returning as Obi-Wan Kenobi at August’s D23 convention, revealing that it was pretty overwhelming for him to be the focal point of so many adoring fans. In fact, it gave him, what he calls, a “William Shatner” moment.
The Scottish star, who is set to return as Obi-Wan in an upcoming Disney Plus show for the first time since 2006, explained to Kimmel that his experience echoed something the Captain Kirk actor talked about in one of his books. Clearly, McGregor is a bit of a Trekkie in secret.
“I had a William Shatner moment on there. William Shatner wrote a book called ‘Get a Life’ where he describes, his life was in a difficult place, and he went to his first convention. In his case,...

One of the most fascinatingly strange and unpredictable films of 1999 still carries with it more pleasures to be discovered
When Being John Malkovich opened in 1999, nobody knew the name of its screenwriter, Charlie Kaufman, who’d spent the previous 15 years laboring in the comedy salt mines, submitting articles on spec to National Lampoon, writing a number of unproduced pilots, and landing gigs on short-lived (if beloved) sketch shows like Get a Life and The Dana Carvey Show. Yet as soon as it premiered – and for every project he did afterwards – it was talked about as a Charlie Kaufman film, even though it was directed by Spike Jonze, whose work on innovative commercials and videos for Weezer (Buddy Holly), Beastie Boys (Sabotage), and others had earned him a reputation as one of the most sought-after talents in the business. This was virtually unprecedented; even Robert Towne, whose script for Chinatown is...

“Good Morning America” host Lara Spencer apologized for “insensitive” commentary about Prince George’s ballet classes on Monday morning, three days after she made the remarks during a segment on ABC’s morning show.
“The comment I made about dance was insensitive. It was stupid and I am deeply sorry,” she said before announcing that she had interviewed “three influential dancers who have lived it firsthand.”
In a clip of the interview Spencer said was meant to “turn a negative into a positive,” she told Robbie Fairchild, Fabrice Calmels and Travis Wall, “Thank you guys for being here. It has been a true education for me and an opportunity, I hope.”

Fresh from the Sundance Film Festival comes a movie so outlandish you can’t pass up on seeing it. Full of showbiz, shadows at the window, and good ol’ fashioned family insanity, “Clara’s Ghost” follows the bizarre exploits of the fictional Reynolds family, played by the very real Elliott family. Known for their comedy and sitcoms, the Elliott family includes Chris Elliott and his daughter Abby Elliott, but you may not have heard of the other two members of the family.

Need some ice for that burn? Kailyn Lowry just clobbered Jenelle Evans on Twitter after her Teen Mom 2 co-star tried to make fun of her love life in a since-deleted tweet on Aug. 23. It looks like their beef is far from over! "Thank god I have a man that loves me and wouldn't ever dare to think about doing something like that," Jenelle tweeted. "Playing the field like no one has feelings. #Disgusting." Kailyn didn't take well to having her private life or baby daddy torn apart, so she clapped back Hard. Watch the video above to see how the drama unfolded — and to see Kail's epic clapback. Tension has been builging again for some time now between the Teen Mom 2 stars. On Aug. 6, Kail shared a shady retweet about her rival's parenting skills. "There has been a lot of discussion about how @KailynLowry has 'forgotten' she has two other kids,...

Is her tummy really that flat? Jenelle Evans has been somewhat open about the fact that she isn't currently filming with MTV for the next season of Teen Mom 2, so she's been keeping busy by sharing her sponsored posts for detox masks and weight loss shakes and teas. But in her most recent post, Jenelle was rocking a noticeably flatter tummy and fans aren't buying that it's a result of the products — and they're accusing Jenelle of using Photoshop to alter her toned stomach. "Your Photoshopped photo doesn’t make you look very good," one fan commented, and another wrote, "Unfortunately you can tell that this picture is clearly photoshopped." #ad Day 24 of my @flattummyco shake program and loving my results! Seriously girls, my tummy is looking noticeably flatter, and it’s probably since these have like 20g of protein and are 3x more effective than diet and exercise alone…...

Here we go again! Jenelle Evans' husband David Eason was fired from Teen Mom 2 after a slew of events including demeaning the Lgbt community and scaring other castmates by popping balloons with a knife at a taping. But now, he feels like he was treated unfairly after seeing Kailyn Lowry and Briana DeJesus come to blows on the reunion special. "So Kailyn Lowry is allowed to openly promote violence on set?" he wrote on Facebook on Aug. 8. "Then MTV promotes the violence by airing every second that Kailyn screamed that she wanted to hit Brianna so many times! Wow, it's okay to physically and verbally attack each other on the set with MTV!!!" (Credit: Facebook) Obviously he's still bitter about his own firing, because he continued, "Then if I even disagree with someone's lifestyle in my private life I'm fired?" Unfortunately for him, fans didn't seem to agree.

One big happy family! Er, at least that's what it looks like. Kailyn Lowry took to Instagram on Sunday, Aug. 5 to share a sweet snap on Lux's birthday — and her baby daddy, Chris Lopez, made the pic! "Happy First birthday to my baby... who's not a baby any longer. I love you," the Teen Mom 2 star captioned the shot. Fans were surprised to see the former couple getting along, especially considering there's been a lot of drama between the two over the past year. "Awe glad Chris was there! Happy Birthday, Lux," one person commented. Another added, "So good to see a family picture...

Rude! Gary Shirley came to his wife's defense after fans began to speculate that she was pregnant. The Teen Mom Og star shared a sweet family photo while vacationing in California, but it didn't take long before fans began asking if Kristina was expecting another bundle of joy. "Wait what? @krissyK01 pregnant???" Gary tweeted on Aug. 2. "Um news to me! My wife is lovely and healthy!" Credit: Twitter His post was in response to a bunch of curious fans. "Your [sic] pregnant!!!" someone wrote matter-of-factly. Another asked, "Just a question, is your wife pregnant?" and a third chimed in, "It does look like she's pregnant. Y'all are great parents. Hopefully, you guys have at least one more!" Um, didn't anyone ever tell these people it's not nice to ask a woman if she's pregnant?! The Elliott family is now three generations deep into comedy. It began with Bob Elliott, half of the comedy duo Bob and Ray. His son Chris Elliott went into comedy on Late Night with David Letterman, his own sitcom Get a Life (costarring Bob) and movies like Groundhog Day and There’s Something About Mary. Now his daughters, Abby and Bridey Elliott, are working actors. Abby was a Saturday Night Live cast member and now appears on Odd Mom Out. Bridey acts in indie movies and series too (Fort Tilden won SXSW) and she directed the whole family in Clara’s Ghost,...read more...

If you expect a movie starring the Elliott family and directed by Bridey Elliott to be a wacky laugh riot, then you really aren’t familiar with the truly weird Elliott creations. Sure, they’ve been on SNL and Silicon Valley, but the ones Chris Elliott wrote and created were Get a Life and Cabin Boy. His daughter took a moder nwoman’s extrapolation of that kind of weird comedy. The Reynolds family gather in a remote home months away from one of their daughter’s wedding. Ted Reynolds (Chris Elliott) is a TV star now struggling with the modern world of young writers...read more...

Savant’s vote for the best romantic comedy ever goes to a sordid fable about problems in the big city Rat Race: keeping both a job and one’s self-respect. Picking up where 1930s pre-Code movies left off, Billy Wilder and I.A.L. Diamond’s ‘how to succeed’ thesis divides people into two groups, Takers and those that Get Took. And yet the message it delivers is life & love- affirming.

Who needs pants?! Certainly not Gossip Girl's Taylor Momsen, who's been spotted around New York City over the past few weeks wearing crotch-skimming hemlines, garter belts and a scowl. Needless to say, the 16-year-old's risqué apparel has left the press, parents and fans in a bit of an uproar. The starlet thinks they need to get over it. "I don't care," she told E! News exclusively backstage at the G-Star Raw fashion show Tuesday night. "I think if everyone's going to be so upset about what I'm wearing, I'm like, well, maybe you should look at your life a little more. I don't know why you're so obsessed with mine." To her, it's all about...
