Dr. Chilton, presumably a Psychiatrist, would not refer to Hanibal Lecter as a Psychopath, particularly to someone who allegedly majored in Psychology. Psychopathy is a term popularized by media and lay press. Lecter would be better classified as a Sociopath or as having Anti-Social Personality Disorder. Additionally, he would not necessarily be considered psychotic (commonly confused as the correct Psychiatric term for Psychopathy) as psychosis involves alterations of perception (e.g. Halluicinations).
