After breaking bones and stabbing people with just a pencil in the ‘John Wick’ franchise, Hollywood star Keanu Reeves has a new task waiting in the wings. The actor will voice the character of Shadow in ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 3’. He joins a cast that includes Ben Schwartz as Sonic, as well as Jim Carrey as the villainous Dr Robotnik, reports Variety.
A spokesperson for Paramount Pictures, the studio behind the film, declined to comment.
Aa per Variety, in the games, Shadow, an anthropomorphic hedgehog, is an antihero of sorts. He’s also often an antagonist to Sonic.
Keanu’s credits include ‘Speed’, ‘Bram Stoker’s Dracula’ and ‘My Own Private Idaho’, as well as the ‘Matrix’ franchise. He will next appear in the ‘John Wick’ spinoff, ‘Ballerina’, opposite Ana de Armas.
Reeves is also set to co-star in ‘Good Fortune’ alongside Aziz Ansari, Seth Rogen, Keke Palmer and Sandra Oh.

American filmmaking was irrevocably changed by Francis Ford Coppola, one of the most important auteurs to emerge from the New Hollywood movement. His creative approach to filmmaking, which he pioneered with iconic films like The Godfather and Apocalypse Now, had a profound impact on movie buffs. Not every flick that he added to his coveted filmography, though, was given the same level of recognition.
Coppola’s 1992 adaptation of Bram Stoker’s Dracula, a classic work that had a profound influence on the horror genre, is a prime example of this. Although the set and costume designs in the film have received praise from critics as well as fans, there were many strange behind-the-scenes stories about the production, one of which was Coppola’s mistreatment of Winona Ryder.

After the March 28 friends, family, and industry screening for Francis Ford Coppola’s “Megalopolis” at Universal’s CityWalk AMC in IMAX, reactions were wild. Some said it was his most ambitious film since “Apocalypse Now;” another described it to Puck as “batshit crazy.” Made for $120 million and bankrolled entirely by Coppola through the sale of one of his vineyards, it incorporates new VFX techniques — ones, the filmmakers hope, will be seen on the biggest screens possible.
For that to happen, it will need a major theatrical deal and the filmmakers are now in talks with distributors and major studios. However, those entities have been particularly risk averse these days — and while Coppola is a legend, he hasn’t made a commercial success in three decades.
The film’s stars include Adam Driver, Aubrey Plaza, and Giancarlo Esposito; maybe, say, Paramount or Universal want to be back in the Coppola business.

It is a testament to his acting ability that it was years before I realized that Gary Oldman is British. With an ability to nail accents, the dedication to drastically change his appearance and the talent to convey the full spectrum of emotions, Oldman is one of the most eclectic and underrated actors of our time.
Born March 21, 1958, in London, Oldman began his acting career on the British stage in 1979, and made his film debut in “Remembrance” in 1982. In 1984, he reluctantly accepted the role of punk rocker Sid Vicious in “Sid and Nancy,” a performance which garnered him critical acclaim and launched a diverse and successful career that has spanned almost four decades, and includes everything from small indie films to blockbuster franchises.

Take a look at new images of actress Monica Bellucci in the March 2024 issue of “Vogue” (Czechoslovakia) magazine, photographed by Paolo Roversi:
Bellucci's film career began in the early 1990's, playing roles in "La Riffa" (1991) and "Bram Stoker's Dracula" (1992).
In 1996 she was nominated for a 'César Award' for best supporting actress for her portrayal of 'Lisa' in "L'Appartement".
This was followed by roles in "Malèna" (2000), "Brotherhood of the Wolf" and "Irréversible" (2002).
She has since played in numerous films including "Tears of the Sun" (2003), "The Matrix Reloaded" (2003), "The Brothers Grimm" (2005), "Le Deuxième souffle" (2007), "Don't Look Back" (2009), and "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" (2010).
Bellucci dubbed her own voice for the French and Italian releases of the film "Shoot 'Em Up" (2007), also voicing 'Kaileena' in the video game "Prince of Persia: Warrior Within" and the French voice of 'Cappy' for the international version of the 2005 animated feature "Robots".

Dracula will never die — at least as long as Hollywood has anything to say about it. According to Variety, director Luc Besson is helming a new "Dracula" film starring Christoph Waltz ("Inglourious Basterds") and Caleb Landry Jones (who last starred in Besson's "Dogman).
Besson's "Dracula" joins a crowded pack. 2023 saw the release of "Renfield," an action-comedy featuring Nicolas Cage as Dracula but focusing on Nicholas Hoult as the Count's undead assistant. Another film, released only a few months later, stuck more closely to the Lord of Vampires' horror roots: "The Last Voyage of the Demeter" adapted the chapter of Bram Stoker's original novel where Dracula sails to London in a coffin and murders the ship's crew. That film's Dracula (Javier Botet) was a batlike demon, a far cry from the affable Cage.
Coming up soon is "Abigail," a reimagining of Universal Pictures' 1936 film "Dracula's Daughter." And on Christmas...

John Boyega wants to discuss the good book with you. Which book am I talking about? The Book of Eli, of course! Whispers around the watercooler imply that Boyega is prepping a prequel series based on 2010’s The Book of Eli. According to Deadline, Boyega will play a younger version of Eli, the character played by Denzel Washington in the Albert Hughes and Allen Hughes-directed film. Adding authenticity to the project is The Book of Eli writer Gary Whitta, who will create/write/executive produce the upcoming prequel series. The Book of Eli prequel series comes from Alcon Entertainment. They’ll bring the show to market to land a premium streaming venue.
In The Book of Eli, a drifter fights across a ravaged, post-apocalyptic America while protecting a sacred book that holds the secrets to humanity’s salvation. The story takes place 30 years after a nuclear catastrophe resulting in an ecocide.

Gary Oldman doesn’t think his work at Hogwarts was all that magical.
In an interview with Josh Horowitz during the latest “Happy Sad Confused” podcast released Thursday (via Entertainment Weekly), Oldman spoke about his stint as an ensemble member of the popular “Harry Potter” blockbuster franchise. Oldman portrayed the title character’s outlaw godfather, Sirius Black. He first appeared in the 2004 third film “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban,” later reprising the role in 2005’s “Goblet of Fire” and 2007’s “Order of the Phoenix,” after which his character was killed off. He made a final appearance in the series in a cameo for the seventh and final film, “Deathly Hallows — Part 2.”
Although Sirius is by now among Oldman’s most famous roles, the “Darkest Hour” Oscar winner admitted during the interview that he finds his performance in the films lackluster overall. Comparing his work in the movies to...

Writer Pat Proft says he’s “blocked” from Naked Gun 4, as he and director David Zucker discuss the planned sequel.
The original The Naked Gun film, starring the much-missed Leslie Nielsen, is remarkably celebrating its 35th birthday. And The Hollywood Reporter has celebrated in time honoured fashioned by chatting to some of the team behind it.
Specifically, co-writer and director David Zucker, and co-writer Pat Proft.
The full piece is here, and there’s much to munch on for the (many) fans of the original film. But towards the end, talk turns to the planned fourth Naked Gun film, that Paramount has in development.
The current plan for Naked Gun 4, which it won’t be called, is for Liam Neeson to play Frank Drebin, with Seth McFarlane producing and the terrific Akiva Schaffer (Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping) directing.

In movie history, there are a rare few directors whose style has coined an adjective: Felliniesque, Hitchcockian, Chaplinesque. The modern filmmaker most likely to join that class is Yorgos Lanthimos, the Greek auteur famed for “The Lobster” and “The Favourite,” whose newest, wildest project, “Poor Things,” is his most colorful and phantasmagorical to date.
The look of the film – set in a fairy tale 19th century world unlike any you’ve ever seen – is singular, even if the moniker Lanthimosian doesn’t quite roll off the tongue.
“That’s a really hard word to say,” said cinematographer Robbie Ryan with a laugh. The Irish camera maestro earned an Oscar nomination for “The Favourite,” his previous collaboration with Lanthimos.
“Maybe Lanthimosesque is better – or is it even worse? I do totally agree, though: His filmmaking is signature, for sure. It’s inventive in a way that’s undefinable. I can describe...

Over Hollywood's history, directors have done all sorts of quirky and morally questionable things in an effort to get a certain performance out of their actors. Francis Ford Coppola screamed abuse at Winona Ryder off-camera during the making of "Bram Stoker's Dracula" and encouraged the other actors to do the same. Then there's everything that William Friedkin did to the cast of "The Exorcist," from slapping them before shouting "action!" to firing live guns to get a shocked expression.
By comparison, "Meet Me in St. Louis" director Vincente Minnelli telling six-year-old actress Margaret O'Brien that her dog had died in order to make her cry for the 1944 musical "Meet Me in St. Louis" seems almost tame. Especially since it probably didn't actually happen (more on that in a moment). Yorgos Lanthimos’ Poor Things, photographed by Dp Robbie Ryan, received an enthusiastic ovation as it opened the 31st EnergaCamerimage cinematography film festival Nov. 11. A familiar face at the annual event and an Oscar nominee for Lanthimos’ The Favourite, Ryan used an inventive range of film stocks and lenses to support the absurdist story (an adaptation of the 1992 novel of the same name by Alasdair Gray) of Bella Baxter (played by Emma Stone, who also produced), a Victorian woman brought back to life by an unorthodox scientist played by Willem Dafoe, and her journey toward liberation.
The approach to the cinematography took a cue from Francis Ford Coppola’s 1992 film Bram Stoker’s Dracula. “[Poor Things] is very obviously artificial in many aspects,” Ryan explains. “[Dracula] leaned heavily on early cinema techniques like miniatures, processed backgrounds, false perspective and speeding up the camera, and loads of crazy lighting effects. Bram Stoker’s Dracula really enjoyed that madness.

Say it once, say it twice — but say it a third time and expect an explosion of chaotic supernatural hilarity. That was the premise of "Beetlejuice," the second feature film from director Tim Burton. Released in 1988, the film focused on newly dead couple Adam and Barbara Maitland (Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis), whose quaint country house was posthumously sold to Charles and Delia Deetz (Jeffrey Jones and Catherine O'Hara). Adam and Barbara, however, remain in their home, as ghosts, horrified by the bizarre architectural changes being made to their beloved home by its obnoxious new owners. Taking advice from "The Handbook for the Recently Deceased," the Maitlands attempt to haunt their unwanted roommates into leaving — a tactic that proves unsuccessful when the Deetzes remain utterly oblivious to their efforts to scare them out.
The Deetz's death-obsessed teenage daughter, Lydia (Winona Ryder), can see the Maitlands, and befriends them. Just when all seems hopeless,...

[Editor’s note: The following article contains spoilers for “Saltburn,” “Fair Play,” “The Talented Mr. Ripley,” and “Bram Stoker’s Dracula.”]
All’s fair in love, war, and other bloody battles, according to the not-quite-feminist trend of watching period sex play out onscreen.
Two of the year’s buzziest films — Chloe Domont’s Sundance stunner “Fair Play” and Emerald Fennell’s recent (and very viral) “Saltburn” — exist in the same vein (quite literally) of destigmatizing period sex, showing off cunnilingus onscreen. And yet, both films argue that the man performing this specific sexual act isn’t just pleasuring the woman in question: He’s actually taking her life force. Is that only reinforcing the symbolism of menstrual blood being a marker of the so-called “weaker sex”?
“Saltburn” has been billed as a sort of “vampire movie” by filmmaker Fennell. The scene in question shows Oliver (Barry Keoghan) taking a bite out of his current prey: Venetia (Alison Oliver), the sister of his real obsession,...

Among the myriad reasons we could call the Criterion Channel the single greatest streaming service is its leveling of cinematic snobbery. Where a new World Cinema Project restoration plays, so too does Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight. I think about this looking at November’s lineup and being happiest about two new additions: a nine-film Robert Bresson retro including L’argent and The Devil, Probably; and a one-film Hype Williams retro including Belly and only Belly, but bringing as a bonus the direct-to-video Belly 2: Millionaire Boyz Club. Until recently such curation seemed impossible.
November will also feature a 20-film noir series boasting the obvious and the not. Maybe the single tightest collection is “Women of the West,” with Johnny Guitar and The Beguiled and Rancho Notorious and The Furies only half of it. Lynch/Oz, Irradiated, and My Two Voices make streaming premieres; Drylongso gets a Criterion Edition; and joining...

Ghosts are ubiquitous and zombies have had their moments of dominance, but of all the classic horror monsters, vampires have the strongest claim for the greatest film legacy. The vampire genre is nearly as old as cinema itself, with F.W. Murnau’s “Nosferatu” scaring up audiences in 1922, followed by the countless iterations that came in its shadow. Every era and every filmmaking country has since taken up its own spins on the myth of the vampire, from Universal Studios’ “Dracula” series beginning with Tod Browning’s Bram Stoker adaptation in 1931, all the way up to Iranian-American director Ana Lily Amirpour’s indie feminist twist “A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night” in 2014.
2023 though, has not exactly been a banner year for brilliant takes on the horror genre’s most iconic creatures of the night. Sure, there have been plenty of movies starring vampires; it’s just that most of them haven’t been very good.

“The Last Voyage of the Demeter” is many things – it’s a cracking good horror movie that is set almost entirely on a doomed ship traveling from Transylvania to London; it’s a refreshing expansion of “Dracula” lore; and it also is a nice nod to Universal Pictures’ classic monster-filled past. It’s existence, though, feels like a bit of a miracle, especially if you had followed the project’s development over the past 20 – yes, 20 – years. That might be the blink of an eye to an immortal creature of the night like Dracula, but in moviemaking terms, that’s an eternity.
Let’s take a look at where “The Last Voyage of the Demeter” started, with a spec script that shook up Hollywood, and where it ended up, as a big studio movie from Universal, with commentary from the eventual film’s director André Øvredal.
Just be warned: there are choppy waters ahead.

Summer is the perfect time for a lovely, long sea voyage right? The weather is hot, but the breeze helps passengers and crew forget the temperature and enjoy the scenic ocean views. That is, unless you happen to be boarding a ship sailing from Transylvania to England in the late 19th century, like the crew in “The Last Voyage of the Demeter,” which officially debuts in theaters on Friday, Aug. 11.
The Demeter’s voyage begins pleasantly enough, but soon strange events begin to set the crew on edge. Soon they realize they’re being stalked by an unseen force. The merciless and legendary vampire Dracula is aboard ship, and the crew must fight to stay alive each night as they stare into the brink of eternity.
Critics haven’t been terribly enthusiastic about the film, which currently has a 36% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. But no one goes into a movie...

Tell me if you've heard this one before.
A vampire hunter, a doctor, a rich guy, an American cowboy, an in-over-his-head solicitor, and a hypnotized woman with a psychic connection to history's greatest monster pursue Dracula across Europe. If that sounds like a pretty great movie -- a proper "men on a mission" adventure film with a horror tinge -- you'd be right. It sounds rad as hell. And it's the best part of Bram Stoker's "Dracula," one of the greatest horror novels ever written. After a couple hundred pages of being preyed upon, the cast of human characters take the fight back to the legendary vampire and have him on the run. And a magnificent chase (By boat! By train! By horseback!) ensues. Did I mention that Mina Harker, she of the above-mentioned psychic connection, guides the team using visions wrought out of her by hypnosis? It's thrilling stuff,...

"Star Trek: The Next Generation" introduced us to pop culture's truest Space Dad in the form of Patrick Stewart's Captain Jean-Luc Picard, a noble, commanding, trustworthy father figure for an entire generation of science fiction-loving dorks. But could you ask Captain Picard about girls? About alcohol? About having a good time? Of course not. That wouldn't be dignified for either of you. That's where Jonathan Frakes' Commander William Riker comes in. The Enterprise's First Officer was younger and a bit cockier (and a lot sillier) than the captain. He was a ladies' man, but one who always seemed respectful. He was always down for a good time, but was ready when duty called. He was charming, but never creepy. Tough, but never macho. Frakes had tapped into something special. He was the Space Uncle we all needed. We aspire to be like Picard. We learn how to live from Riker.

Los Angeles, July 30 (Ians) The ‘Barbenheimer’ phenomena has taken the globe by storm as both ‘Barbie’ and ‘Oppenheimer’ have become two of the biggest and most discussed films of 2023. Amid that success, Academy Award winning director Francis Ford Coppola has called the ‘Barbenheimer’ war a victory for Hollywood.
Taking to his social media, the ‘Godfather’ and ‘Bram Stoker’s Dracula’ director said: “I have yet to see (‘Barbie’ and ‘Oppenheimer’), but the fact that people are filling big theaters to see them and that they are neither sequels nor prequels, no number attached to them, meaning they are true one-offs, is a victory for cinema.”
Coppola went on to add in another post that he is very optimistic about the future of films now, writing: “My hunch is that we’re on the verge of a golden age. Wonderful and illuminating cinema seen in large theaters.”

One of the most acclaimed and famous Hollywood actors, Gary Oldman battled alcoholism and only quit his booze once he realised that he was going to die from it. According to ‘Female First UK’, talking to Candis Magazine the ‘Bram Stoker’s Dracula’ actor said “Even though my father left when I was very young, I still had that blueprint. I hadn’t had his influence since I was seven, yet I was still doing all that stuff as if I’d had him there all along. I was drinking two bottles of vodka a day and you get to a point where you put the drink before all else”.
He continued, “So here was the drink in front and there was my family, my kids, and my work following behind. I used to get upset that my working as an actor was getting in the way of my drinking. I...

Ten years to the weekend of the release of “Man of Steel,” and months after even Zack Snyder himself finally bid a fond farewell to the so-called SnyderVerse, Netflix is sharing a behind-the-scenes look at Snyder’s latest fantasy epic. “Rebel Moon,” which will (as of this time) be a two-part film that will be offered in a PG-13 version and an R-rated cut, takes significant inspiration from one of Snyder’s favorite films, “The Seven Samurai.”

For relaxing times, make it Suntory time. Sofia Coppola has gone back to the renowned Japanese whisky Suntory to direct an ad for its 100th anniversary, with none other than Keanu Reeves leading the way.
In the Suntory ad, we see Keanu Reeves enter a bar as Joan Jett’s cover of “Crimson and Clover” is played on vinyl. From there, Reeves takes a seat with locals and enjoys a pour of the whisky, leading into a montage of various stills and clips, including some from Sofia Coppola’s Lost in Translation.

Keanu Reeves and Sofia Coppola are returning to their respective career roots.
Twenty years after Coppola directed her breakout 2003 film “Lost in Translation” in Tokyo, the filmmaker returns to Japan with a short film for the Suntory Whisky Anniversary Tribute. Suntory Whiskey has become cinematically synonymous with “Lost in Translation” for Bill Murray’s quip, “For relaxing times, make it Suntory Time,” as his character is a fading-out actor sent to Tokyo to hawk the brand.
Actor Reeves, who previously starred in a 1990s Suntory ad, leads the commercial, a montage that celebrates 100 years of the iconic liquor brand The House of Suntory.
The ad shows Reeves walking through nightlife in Japan before ducking into a nondescript bar and ordering a glass of Suntory on the rocks as a vinyl record plays. The ad is set to Joan Jett and the Blackhearts’ cover of “Crimson and Clover.”

Keanu’s ability to effortlessly blend talent and charisma, all while embodying a mysterious allure, had my heart pounding as if I were Neo, evading bullets.

Chloé Zhao has gone from intimate dramas in the American West to massive Marvel blockbusters, and now she’s entered the world of gaming. Kind of. The Oscar winner has teamed up with video game publisher Blizzard to direct a live-action trailer for their upcoming video game “Diablo IV,” set to release in two weeks.
The trailer, which Zhao co-directed with Kiku Ohe, is set in the video game’s world of Sanctuary, the realm of humans constantly caught in the middle of the battles between heaven and hell. The trailer features actors portraying the game’s five playable classes — Barbarian, Sorcerer, Druid, Rogue, and Necromancer — fighting various monsters and ending with a shot of the game’s primary antagonist, the demon Lilith.
“Working with Blizzard, we had the wonderful opportunity to bring the dark, thrilling and imaginative world of ‘Diablo IV’ to life,” Zhao said in a statement. “’Diablo’ fans are very passionate,...

Watching the 2014 film The Guest was enough to convince me that Dan Stevens is one of the coolest actors around these days, so I consider it very good news that he has signed on to take a role in the Universal Monsters project that’s coming our way from Radio Silence, the filmmaking team that previously brought Ready or Not, Scream (2022), and Scream VI to the screen. Deadline reported the news of Stevens’ casting, but didn’t have any information on the character he’ll be playing.
Stevens joins previously announced cast members Alisha Weir, star of Matilda: The Musical, and Melissa Barrera, who worked with Radio Silence on both of their Scream movies.
Radio Silence members Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are going to be directing the film, while the third member of the trio, Chad Villella, will be producing. Their Scream movie collaborators William Sherak, Paul Neinstein, and...
