If you haven’t taken the leap to bundle Disney+ and Hulu, it might be time. Streaming is only getting more expensive and competitive, and the enticing bundle (which also includes ESPN) might be a version of cable TV, but it’s also just cost efficient. Disney+ and Hulu are so intertwined that their monthly listing updates come in the same email — and as such, we decided to compile them here for you in the same list.
Whether you have Disney+ or Hulu, or both (and the IndieWire staff has weighed on our favorites), each has its benefits. Disney has the family-friendly titles, the Star Wars and Marvel (new episodes of “The Bad Batch” and “X-Men: 97” continue through April), while Hulu is the place to catch FX originals and network episodes. Both streamers have the rights to distribute National Geographic titles, which are well worth exploring along with the rest of the library.

Actor Keith Jefferson, who was best known for his roles in some of director Quentin Tarantino’s most iconic films such as ‘Django Unchained’ and ‘The Hateful Eight’, has passed away at the age of 53 due to cancer.
The actor died during the night of October 4 which his representative Nicole St. John told The Hollywood Reporter.
However, ‘The Once Upon A Time in Hollywood’ alum had long made his peace with what was to come, as back in August he had announced his cancer diagnosis.
Announcing about his cancer at the time, Keithwrote: “Every now and then God will give you a challenge and leave it up to you to fix it.
“When I was first diagnosed with cancer I had to stop, pause, and didn’t want to share with anyone. Not my family nor extended family. Today I’m finally at a place to share because my faith is getting stronger.

Hulu’s list of new releases for April 2023 don’t feature many blockbusters, but if we dig a little, I’m sure we can find some gems.
Perhaps the most promising items are on the TV side of things. Tiny Beautiful Things premieres on April 7 and stars Kathryn Hahn as “a floundering writer who becomes a revered advice columnist while her own life is falling apart.” That will be followed by comedy Am I Being Unreasonable? on April 11 and two documentaries: high school football story Algiers, America (April 19) and Tupac Shakur piece Dear Mama (April 22).
The best TV candidate this month, however, is probably Saint X on April 26. This series, told via multiple timelines, “explores and upends the girl-gone-missing genre as it explores how a young woman’s mysterious death during an idyllic Caribbean vacation creates a traumatic ripple effect that eventually pulls her surviving sister into a dangerous pursuit of the truth.

One of the most anticipated television releases of April is coming to Hulu on April 7. “Tiny Beautiful Things” stars Kathryn Hahn as troubled writer Clare. Ironically, she becomes a great advice columnist as her life falls apart. Her marriage is in trouble and her teen daughter hates her. Plus, her writing career is going nowhere. Based on the best-selling collection by Cheryl Strayed, the limited series explores the author’s journey toward healing herself and others.
Check out the “Tiny Beautiful Things” trailer:
Also arriving on Hulu in April is the series adaptation of the best-selling novel “Saint X.” The series is based on Alexis Schaitkin’s novel of the same name and follows a woman’s dangerous pursuit of her older sister’s disappearance on an idyllic Caribbean vacation. Even if you’ve signed up for every streaming service out there, it can feel monumental when a title moves from one to another. In April, Netflix mainstay “New Girl” moves to Hulu; still streaming, but not where fans are used to finding it — like rearranging the furniture in your apartment and waking up surprised every day that the couch is over there now.
But what’s important is that “New Girl” lives on, now joining Hulu’s own TV and movie library and originals from Freeform, FX, National Geographic, and more. Later in the month, Leila Gerstein’s “Saint X” — based on the novel by Alexis Schaitkin — premieres with three episodes, recounting the story of a young girl found dead during a family vacation and the sister piecing it together years later. Alycia Debnam-Carey, Josh Bonzie, West Duchovny, Jayden Elijah, Bre Francis, Kenlee Anaya Townsend, Betsy Brandt, and Michael Park star.

Though the confusingly named initiative “FX on Hulu” is on its way out, FX is still bringing premium television to Hulu in the meantime.
Hulu’s list of new releases for April 2022 is highlighted by FX limited series Under the Banner of Heaven. This adaptation of the non-fiction book by John Krakauer stars Andrew Garfield as a Mormon police detective whose faith is shaken when investigating a murder involving the church.
It’s not all just FX on the TV side of things for Hulu this month, however. The streamer is debuting second seasons of its series The Hardy Boys (April 6) and Woke (April 8). There isn’t much to report from Hulu’s original movies arm aside from true crime documentary Captive Audience on April 21. But that doc about one family’s 50-year journey for justice sounds like a must-watch.

a series by Christopher James looking at the 'Gay Best Friend' trope
Incredibly disappointed I only now realized there was a road trip dramedy with Whoopi Goldberg, Mary-Louise Parker and Drew Barrymore.Long live the era of Whoopi Goldberg vehicles (aka the 90s).
Goldberg kick-started the 90s by winning a (well-deserved) Oscar for Ghost and headlining the smash-hit Sister Act. From there, we got a string of movies where Goldberg was the leading lady. Though they varied in quality and weren’t always progressive, it was impressive to see movie after movie built around a black actress. Who else could do Eddie, Bogus, The Associate And Ghosts of Mississippi all in 1996? We’re going a year earlier for this week’s gay best friend. No, we’re not talking about Theodore Rex (though… should we). Instead, we are talking about the messy dramedy I didn’t know I needed in my life,...

In response to Joel Schumacher’s death on Monday, Matthew McConaughey says his career wouldn’t have taken off if the late director hadn’t cast him as the lead in the 1996 film “A Time to Kill.”
McConaughey was relatively unknown before starring as Jake Brigance in the courtroom crime drama. He had small roles in “Dazed and Confused,” “Angels in the Outfield,” “Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation” and “Boys on the Side” in the mid ’90s, and Schumacher gave him his first leading role.
In an exclusive statement to Variety, McConaughey reflects on the big break Schumacher gave him and thanks the director for kickstarting his career:
“Joel not only took a chance on me, he fought for me. Knowing the studio might never approve a relatively unknown like myself for the lead in ‘A Time to Kill,’ he set up a secret screen test for me on...

This Solar Opposites review contains spoilers.
Solar Opposites Episode 6
The bulk of Solar Opposites’ plots draw from the simple, but richly adaptable framework of introducing a classic comedy trope into the aliens lives, but, because they’re aliens, the trope plays out in a bizarre sci-fi fashion that deviates drastically from the plot’s basis, typically culminating in the deaths of a whole lot of people.
In a way, it makes me think of Beavis and Butt-Head, a series which deserves more credit for completely subverting conventional TV comedy storytelling.Maybe this is kind of a funky comparison because Solar Opposites is still a heavily structured sitcom, while Beavis and Butt-Head is borderline structureless, but both of them defy sitcom expectations by virtue of their protagonists being unconventional factors in what might be otherwise conventional stories. Basically, Beavis and Butt-head are too stupid to embark on full character arcs and...

Whoopi Goldberg is set to star alongside Jovan Adepo (When They See Us), Owen Teague (Mrs. Fletcher), Brad William Henke (Orange is the New Black) and Daniel Sunjata (Rescue Me) in The Stand, an adaptation of Stephen King’s novel at CBS All Access. They join previously announced cast members James Marsden, Amber Heard, Odessa Young and Henry Zaga. Goldberg and King made the announcement this morning on ABC’s The View.
Written by Josh Boone and Ben Cavell, The Stand is King’s apocalyptic vision of a world decimated by plague and embroiled in an elemental struggle between good and evil. The fate of mankind rests on the frail shoulders of the 108-year-old Mother Abagail (Goldberg) and a handful of survivors. Their worst nightmares are embodied in a man with a lethal smile and unspeakable powers: Randall Flagg, the Dark Man.

Mary-Louise Parker will return to Broadway this September in Adam Rapp’s The Sound Inside, directed by The Band’s Visit‘s David Cromer.
Parker will reprise her critically acclaimed Williamstown Theatre Festival performance from last summer as the play’s Bella Baird, a Yale professor and novelist who has just received a very grim cancer diagnosis.
The Sound Inside, which also will feature Will Hochman in his Broadway debut reprising his role as Bella’s student Christopher, will begin performances at Studio 54 on September 14, with an official opening night set for October 17.
The play will be produced on Broadway by Jeffrey Richards, Lincoln Center Theater and Rebecca Gold. Though Studio 54 is a Broadway venue of the Roundabout Theatre Company, The Sound Inside is not a Roundabout production. Matthew McConaughey is surprisingly flexible for such an inimitable actor; he can play anybody, and yet there’s no one else quite like him. He’s been a Hollywood leading man for more than 20 years — starring in adventure movies, sci-fi epics, stripper masterpieces, a smattering of mostly regrettable rom-coms, and more — but he’s never really settled into a type. He can do it all, but the easygoing Austin native is at his best when it seems like he’s just being himself. In an industry that swallows actors whole and spits them out on the regular, McConaughey has survived by embracing a “just keep livin’” philosophy that makes you feel like he’s just happy to be here. And if his shaggy, self-possessed, and almost supernaturally high portrayal of Moondog in “The Beach Bum” feels like McConaughey’s defining performance, that’s because it barely seems like he’s acting at all.

For the latest spotlight piece, I wanted to return to a former subject take another look at one of the most unusual A-listers that Hollywood has to offer. It’s none other than Matthew McConaughey, a unique star in the business. Up until recently known as a talented but easygoing movie star, he’s since undergone a career transformation that’s not just made him one of the most sought after actors around, but one of the most acclaimed as well. He’s entered the second phase of his career and could reach the stratosphere before long. McConaughey already has an Academy Award under his belt, and it’s not folly to think that Oscar could cite him again real soon. McConaughey got his start by stealing his scenes in Dazed and Confused. In fact, that first theatrical role gave him some instantly quotable dialogue and really established him as...

Whoopi Goldberg celebrates her 63rd birthday on November 13, 2018. The actress, comedian, and talk show host has had one of the most varied careers in show business and has even achieved the Egot, which has come to symbolize success across the board in all mediums.
Goldberg won her Oscar as Best Supporting Actress for the film “Ghost.” She had previously been nominated for her screen debut for Steven Spielberg in “The Color Purple” and stood a good chance at becoming the first African-American woman to win Best Actress, but controversy surrounding the film’s depiction of black men scared voters away from the film and it lost all 11 of its nominations.
Goldberg’s Emmy wins both came for daytime work. Her first win was for hosting a documentary about Hattie McDaniel of “Gone With the Wind,” the Best Supporting Actress for that film. She also won a second Emmy for her...

James Cameron’s record-breaking blockbuster “Titanic” is currently back on the big screen to celebrate its 20th anniversary, and the movie’s return has inspired at least one shocking revelation about its production: Matthew McConaughey was originally the top pick to play Jack Dawson. According to Kate Winslet, the studio was so intent on having McConaughey involved that she originally auditioned with him.

“I auditioned with Matthew, isn’t that weird?” Winslet told Stephen Colbert during a recent interview. “Never said that in public before. I auditioned with Matthew, which was completely fantastic. It just wouldn’t have been the whole, Jack and Rose, Kate and Leo thing.”
McConaughey was still relatively unknown during “Titanic’s” early days of development, having starred in Richard Linklater’s “Dazed and Confused” and movies like “Boys on the Side” and “Glory Daze.

We’re now deep into the McConaissance folks. Yes, in the last few years, we’ve seen Matthew McConaughey really make the leap to the next stage of his career, shaking up the industry in the process. With this week marking the release of his new film The Sea of Trees, I wanted to take a look at his best work to date. Even before I started tackling heavier fare, he was someone I enjoyed, but that’s only grown these days. Whether in supporting or lead roles, he’s a unique and talented actor with a lot to offer. The years to come will be very exciting, both for us and for him… The Sea of Trees is a drama about a pair of suicidal men looking for a way out of a forest in Japan. One is Arthur Brennan (McConaughey), the protagonist, while the other is Takumi Nakamura...

Oscar winning production designer Ken Adam died today in London at the age of 95 according to The BBC.
Adam is most famous for creating the iconic and sprawling lairs of the supervillains who populated the Sean Connery and Roger Moore-era James Bond films. His designs included the Crab Key complex in "Dr. No," the Fort Knox interiors on "Goldfinger," the volcano lair of "You Only Live Twice," Stromberg's supertanker and Atlantis sets in "The Spy Who Loved Me," and Drax's space station in "Moonraker". He also did the production design on "Thunderball" and "Diamonds Are Forever".
Adams' work extended well beyond the Bond franchise though, such as two films in the anti-Bond Harry Palmer film series with Michael Caine - "The Ipcress File" and "Funeral in Berlin". He was a favorite of Stanley Kubrick following his design of the famous war room for "Dr. Strangelove". He was offered "2001" but turned it down,...

Since making his big-screen debut more than 20 years ago in "Dazed and Confused," Matthew McConaughey has taken Hollywood by storm.
The Texas-born actor was practically a leading man from the get-go, starring in critically-acclaimed dramas before topping the box office in a flurry of romantic comedies. And then the McConaissance began. McConaughey transformed himself for a role in "Dallas Buyers Club," won his first Oscar -- and then nearly won an Emmy for "True Detective," too. Now, the actor continues his hot streak by starring in Christopher Nolan's space epic "Interstellar."
From his early days shooting armadillo to his love for bongo drums, here are 35 things you probably don't know about Matthew McConaughey.
1. Matthew David McConaughey was born November 4, 1969 in Uvalde, Texas to Mary Kathleen McCabe and James Donald McConaughey.
2. His mother is a former kindergarten teacher, while his father ran an oil supply business.

Last year, Matthew McConaughey played a cowboy stripper named Dallas, and this week the Texas-bred actor portrays the man who started the real-life Dallas Buyers Club. But there won't be any scandalous shirt-ripping or butt-less chaps in this heavy drama.
"Dallas Buyers Club" tells the true story of Ron Woodroof (McConaughey), a homophobic Texas electrician who is diagnosed with HIV in 1986 and given 30 days to live. Unable to get effective medicine due to government legal restrictions, Woodroof smuggles drugs into the country and starts a Buyers Club to help other AIDS patients. McConaughey lost an astonishing 50 pounds for the role, which critics are already calling the best performance of his career.
While you've seen McConaughey do everything from tearing a courtroom apart to tearing his clothes off, you may not know everything about him. From his nude, bongo-playing arrest to his odd body hygiene choices, here are 20 things you probably don't know about Matthew McConaughey.

We’ve seen a noticeable rise in recent years in terms of Lgbt visibility in Hollywood, but if you flash back even ten years ago—let alone twenty or thirty—the number of “out” performers and gay film and TV projects dwindles markedly. This was the Dark Ages, when Hollywood brought out maybe one movie a year with a gay character (who hopefully didn’t die or wasn’t a stereotype), and maybe one or two art-house films that broke through the clutter. Things began to improve in the 90’s, but it’s largely been since the age of reality television and the rise of cable over the past 15 years that we’ve really begun to see a more realistic breadth and scope of gay life being portrayed in a wide variety of ways.
Before that however, there were a handful of brave performers who—though not necessarily gay themselves...

It's not that we condone violence, it's just that we can't help but root for ass-kicking women in fictional scenarios. This week we want to know, what's your favorite fight scene?
Heather Hogan: I've read/watched all the Harry Potters so many times I've lost count, but seeing Hermione Granger unleash her righteous fury on Draco Malfoy in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkabn is as exciting now as it was the first time I saw it. The name calling ("You! You foul, loathsome, evil, little cockroach!") the way he whimpers when she's got her wand pressed against his jugular, the moment she turns away when she realizes he's not good enough for her magic, then — Whamo! — a full-on Muggle-punch to the face. It still makes me cheer.

Getting killed off at the beginning of "Scream" was the best thing that could have happened to Drew Barrymore.Save for some critical love for "Boys on the Side," Drew's career wasn't exactly booming when she signed on to play the ill-fated Casey Becker in Wes Craven's 1996 hit horror movie ... a movie that single-handedly brought the slasher flick back to life. The film also made Drew a bona fide "Scream Queen." On Barrymore's 38th birthday, we're celebrating all the women who successfully (or sometimes, unsuccessfully) went head-to-head against Ghostface, Michael Myers, Freddy Krueger and other knife-wielding maniacs.Check out some of the biggest scream queens of the '70s, '80s and '90s in the gallery above.Which one was your favorite? It's easy to call Matthew McConaughey a movie star now, but back in 1996, the most notable role for the actor was in the 1993 cult comedy Dazed and Confused and, a supporting role as Drew Barrymore's love interest in 1995's Boys on the Side. It was the 1996 adaptation of A Time to Kill that first tested McConaughey's ability to lead a movie, even if he was getting plenty of help from Sandra Bullock and Samuel L. Jackson, both of whom have a more prominent position on the poster.
Based on the novel by John Grisham, A Time to Kill followed McConaughey as lawyer Jake Brigance, who takes on a case that confronts the deeply-rooted racism of the Mississippi Delta area. Considered a success on all fronts, A Time To Kill made it to our list of the Top 10 Samuel L. Jackson movies as well as the Top 10 Sandra Bullock movies.

Stay off the streets and stay in with a movie…that takes to the streets.
Los Angelenos are aflutter with impending chaos. And, if you don’t live in Los Angeles, you probably don’t understand. (I live here and I’m not sure I fully understand.) But this weekend (July 15-17), the City of Los Angeles has gotten it in its mind to shut down the 405 Freeway, one of the central lifelines for the (frankly absurd) amount of traffic that hits Los Angeles on a daily basis. This means that, functionally, no one’s going anywhere this weekend and the entire West side of Los Angeles is going to be choked off by the cold, unrelenting hands of the Los Angeles Dot.
Naturally, this has become a bit of a cultural meme (surely confusing anyone who doesn’t live in Los Angeles) dubbed by internet pun genii as “Carmageddon.

Opens: 2011
Cast: Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Banks, Zooey Deschanel, Emily Mortimer, Steve Coogan
Director: Jesse Peretz
Summary: Ned is a well-meaning idealist just released from prison for dealing cannabis. In succession, he disrupts the lives and homes of his three sisters: a career-driven journalist about to get her big break; a bisexual hipster whose lies are disrupting her relationship; and a married mother who hasn't noticed that her marriage is falling apart.
Analysis: Scoring a good response over the weekend at the Sundance Film Festival, this broad light comedy with a sweet heart charmed the pants off The Weinstein Company to the tune of around $6 million for distribution rights. That covers most of its sub-$10 million budget, a number that it could potentially outgross by several factors if the good-natured tone hinted at in the reviews were correct. If anything, the few negatives tended to be because this...

So right around Oscar season, when people are pushing for Natalie Portman's Black Swan performance to take home the statue, here comes the trailer for the long-held Extramarital Sex 2: Deuces Wild. Oh, sorry, The Other Woman.
Directed by Don Roos, a slow-burn dude whose credits are actually relatively diverse (The Opposite of Sex, Happy Endings, Marley & Me, wrote the script for Boys On The Side), The Other Woman revolves around the progression of Natalie Portman stealing Lisa Kudrow's husband, marrying him, having a kid with him, losing the kid, and then getting all up on Lisa Kudrow's kid. You know, the one she had with her ex-husband who was stolen by Natalie Portman.

Sometimes in Life is an entertaining, well made, decidedly indie film that, despite being set in the present, has an undeniable 90s vibe. The story of a drifter who has just lost his father and a young lesbian who suspects foul play from her partner; it's an unlikely buddy movie with a sweet, uplifting core.
Jill (Sara Stepnicka) is a fashion designer with a hot blond girlfriend, Adrianna (Gunhild Giil), a gorgeous house and a cute dog. But not all is happy in domestic-ville – Jill suspects that Adrianna is being unfaithful. There's trouble in paradise even in the first scene, where Jill wants a bit of a friendly wake up and Adrianna isn't having it. Later on, she tries to kiss her girlfriend in the supermarket, only to get a cold diss. As Jill sews one day, she sees a commercial for a local "heartbreak" investigator (kind of like a...

Sony Pictures brought three of their upcoming movies at a time to San Diego Comic Con International on Friday, July 23. Taking place at Hall H, the panel started with a presentation for "Priest". Director Scott Stewart came first to introduce the first trailer for the movie. The trailer later hits the web and is embedded at the end of this article. It gives a quick glimpse of vampire attack and a lot of action sequences.
After the trailer ended, the cast including Paul Bettany, Cam Gigandet, Maggie Q, Karl Urban, Stephen Moyer showed up on the stage. During the discussion, Moyer explained his role, saying that he portrayed a scientist that has sequestered himself in the desert, away from society.
About ten minutes away from five o'clock, the cast of "The Other Guys", Will Ferrell, Mark Wahlberg and Eva Mendes, and its director Adam McKay began taking over the place.
