The Last of Us star told Entertainment Tonight that the residual check he received for his single-episode role as Eddie in 1999 helped him stay afloat.
“We’re talking about being able to see a doctor, getting sick, getting a surgery, paying my rent when I had less than $7 in my account, and a residual from ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ showed up and saved the day, and literally is the reason I was able to stay in it and not give up,”

A small role in Buffy the Vampire Slayer saved Pedro Pascal financially, allowing him to continue acting in Hollywood. Pascal reveals that at one point, he had very little money in his bank account, but a Buffy residual allowed him to keep going. Since then, Pascal has become one of Hollywood's most well-known and beloved stars.
Pedro Pascal explains how his brief appearance on Buffy the Vampire Slayer ensured that he could continue acting. Pascal guest-starred in the season 4 premiere episode, "The Freshman," where he portrayed Edward, a potential college friend to Buffy Summers (Sarah Michelle Gellar) who becomes another unfortunate victim of the war between slayers and the forces of darkness. The actor has since gone on to play major characters in Game of Thrones, Kingsman: The Golden Circle, The Mandalorian, and The Last of Us.

Pedro Pascal's rise to stardom took over 20 years, starting with a breakthrough role on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Pascal's time on the acclaimed series is unforgettable to him, including details like sharing ice cream with Sarah Michelle Gellar. Despite early struggles, Pascal credits a residual check from Buffy for keeping him in Hollywood and not giving up on acting.
Though he truly shot to stardom with The Mandalorian, the rise of Pedro Pascal to the top of Hollywood’s A-list took more than 20 years to accomplish, and if it weren’t for his role on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, there’s a good chance that The Fantastic Four star would have given up. Pascal, who will portray Reed Richards in the upcoming MCU reboot, once had less than $7 in his bank account, and was considering abandoning his acting pursuits in favor of something a little more stable. The Twilight Saga showcases a captivating love story while emphasizing the importance of family bonds within the Cullen clan. Each member of the Cullen family possesses unique and exaggerated powers, such as telepathy, mental shields, and heightened strength. Becoming a vampire enhances individual traits, leading to extraordinary abilities like precognition, pathokinesis, and heightened compassion.
Vampires have traditionally been seen as predatory beings that feed on human blood, but fantasy has become more intriguing, with 19th-century literature opening the way for a new kind of these fascinating creatures. A plethora of vampire films and shows have been released over the years, including Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Dracula, and Forever Knight. However, nothing quite captures the essence of vampire-human romance like The Twilight Saga, which spanned five films between 2008 and 2012.

Angel cleverly inserted Buffy into its final season, strengthening the bond between the two shows despite Sarah Michelle Gellar's absence. Buffy's intended return in Angel's 100th episode was scrapped due to real-life circumstances, leading to a revised storyline for the show. A decoy Buffy appeared in Angel season 5, with the fake Buffy revealed to have been romantically linked to the Immortal as a clever comics retcon.
Angel found a way to reinforce its connection to Buffy the Vampire Slayer by seemingly slipping Buffy into its fifth and final season — even though Buffy's actress, Sarah Michelle Gellar, wasn't able to appear. Angel went from a minor character in the earliest episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer to one of the franchise's most important figures. He became popular enough to carry his own show for five seasons, which existed in the same universe but largely charted its path forward outside of Buffy's orbit.

Popularly known as the internet’s ‘daddy’, Pedro Pascal has recently been one of the most popular faces in the industry. He has been a part of several renowned films and TV shows. The animated X-Men are about to make their return to TV in "X-Men '97." This Disney+ series is basically a thirty-year-late sixth season of 1992's "X-Men," the first cartoon about the Marvel Comics superhero team.
The "X-Men" comics kept chugging along through highs and lows while their animated counterparts were in limbo, though. At SXSW 2024, Marvel previewed the comics' future. A relaunch is coming to "X-Men" in Summer 2024 under the banner "From The Ashes," the follow-up to the ongoing "Fall of X." There'll be three primary series at first:
"X-Men" by Jed MacKay and Ryan Stegman. Cyclops and Magneto will lead a traditional X-Men superhero team based in Alaska.
"Uncanny X-Men" by Gail Simone and David Marquez. "Outlaw" lovebirds Gambit and Rogue head to New Orleans with Wolverine, Nightcrawler, and Jubilee in tow.

Characters like Nico from Runaways, Wanda Maximoff and Daenerys from Game of Thrones have also fallen into this trope, damaging relationships and ultimately meeting severe fates. Rey from Star Wars managed to avoid the dark trope, but her character arc still relied heavily on the sacrifice of a male character, highlighting an entirely different problem for female characterization in storytelling.

Joe Manganiello feels his True Blood character's death was premature, with more story left to explore. Despite the potential for a reboot, True Blood's disappointments linger, including character deaths and bland endings. The scrapped True Blood reboot doesn't rule out a future return, leaving hope for a more fitting end for Alcide Herveaux.
True Blood star Joe Manganiello offers some blunt thoughts about his character’s fate in the hit fantasy horror series. Based on the Sookie Stackhouse books by Charlaine Harris, HBO’s True Blood ran for seven seasons between 2008 and 2014. Officially joining the cast as the werewolf Alcide Herveaux in True Blood season 3, Manganiello’s character would later be promoted to a series regular until he was unceremoniously killed off early in season 7.

A spinoff show about Tyler Lockwood could redeem his storyline after being killed off unceremoniously in The Vampire Diaries. A potential spinoff showcasing Lexi's adventures would explore her role in helping other vampires live full lives, showing them the romantic aspects of immortality. Caroline Forbes' Legacies-era spinoff show could delve into her adventures while traveling the world and uncover more about the Gemini Coven.
In its eight seasons, The Vampire Diaries introduces plenty of substantial characters and fascinating lore that could be the groundwork for a successful spinoff. The CW's show was created by Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson and is based on L.J. Smith's series of novels of the same name. The Vampire Diaries is also the longest-running vampire show ever, beating out Buffy the Vampire Slayer and True Blood, which each ran for seven seasons. The Vampire Diaries' success resulted in two spinoffs, The Originals and Legacies.

TV adaptations can change the tone of beloved source material for various reasons, sometimes well-received, but other times controversial. Examples like Avatar: The Last Airbender and Riverdale show how TV series can update and modernize their source material. Shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Sherlock successfully recontextualize original material for a contemporary audience with new twists.
Often, when a beloved comic, novel, or movie, received the television adaptation treatment, the result was a TV series that completely changed the tone of the source material. This can happen for many different reasons, and, in some circumstances, the changes were well received, and it made sense for the television series to go in a new different when it came to the atmosphere and tone of the show. However, other times, the changes were more controversial, and audiences were disappointed with how the beloved source had been tampered with and changed.

Seeing strong and impactful female characters on TV inspires us, rallying us to do better like these females have done whenever the chips were down.
Some of these characters have inspired us for years, like Svu’s Olivia Benson or Btvs’s Buffy Summers, while other females have only recently hit our TV screens, like The Way Home’s Del Landry. However, these female characters have resonated with us over the years.
Some of the stories may have hit too close to home, like Netflix’s Georgia Miller running from an abusive past, and we cheered her on every step of the way.
We want to honor and recognize these women during National Women’s Month. They’ve taught us that we can achieve our dreams and not let anyone mess with us.
Check out the list below:

Evil villains in fantasy TV are getting darker and more powerful as the genre gains popularity. Compelling villains with strong characterization can make up for lackluster visual effects in fantasy shows. Villains define themselves by their actions and how they impact beloved heroes, making them even more terrifying.
No fantasy TV show is complete without an evil villain, and as fantasy becomes more mainstream in the television landscape, the antagonists are only getting darker and more powerful. Although fantasy is gaining popularity, the subjects and magical elements are difficult to translate to TV. The genre often pulls its stories from books, and the intricacies of the source material are why fantasy TV shows are so hard to adapt. However, compelling villains and strong characterization can make up for lackluster visual effects.
It's almost more terrifying when a villain doesn't have any magic or special powers and is merely driven by the force of their cruelty.

In a People interview, Buffy the Vampire Slayer actress Emma Caulfield Ford, who played the demon Anya on the TV series, updated her health and detailed her Ms battle, which she kept quiet for more than a decade.
The report indicates Caulfield Ford’s symptoms have been extremely mild, and she doesn’t take medication. She has acute sensitivity to heat and stress, but severe symptoms such as fatigue, muscle weakness, and lesions have not manifested.

In the wake of the news that someone, somewhere, had the gall to yell at The Rebecca Ferguson, workplace behavior on the sets of Hollywood has once again been called into question. But, back in the early ‘90s, there was one actor who wouldn’t stand for any of it — Beverly Hills, 90210 star, Luke Perry. During a conversation with Vanity Fair about her cult-classic film that launched a franchise of TV shows, graphic novels, podcasts, and more, Buffy the Vampire Slayer director, Fran Rubel Kuzui, said that the young star saved the whole kit and caboodle. “If it wasn’t for Luke Perry, Buffy the Vampire Slayer would’ve never happened,” Kuzui, who rarely speaks about her 1992 film, stated bluntly.

More than a dozen years after being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis — and a year after going public with that diagnosis — Emma Caulfield Ford says that she’s been “very, very fortunate” so far with her experience with the disease. Caulfield Ford’s Ms symptoms have been very mild, with occasional sensitivity to heat, stress, and noise, but none of the debilitating flareups other people living with Ms experience, as she told People in a recent interview. “But I’m also aware that, with Ms, this could all change tomorrow,” she added. The Buffy the Vampire Slayer alum was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis — the same disease her late father had — in the summer of 2010 as she filmed the TV series Gigantic. Ms is a chronic disease in which the myelin — the fatty tissue protecting nerve fibers — is destroyed and lesions of scar tissue form in its place, according to Johns Hopkins Medicine.

The first three seasons of Buffy the Vampire Slayer felt like a breath of fresh air when they first began airing. Unlike other science fiction and fantasy shows at the time, the coming-of-age drama series found a way to balance its complex mythology within compelling characters that transitioned into adulthood. Buffy the Vampire Slayer was as much about the perils of high school as it was about the threat of the undead. The mythology behind each season’s main “big bad” antagonist never felt more important than any of the individual character arcs.

When it comes to teen-centric shows they’ve got quite a lot going for them. For one, they are never short on drama, and often feature the most bizarre storylines you can imagine. There’s usually an emotionally charged relationship or love triangle. Plus, they’re extremely bingeable, and never lack in entertainment. Buffy the Vampire Slayer is no different, it’s full of juicy drama, has plenty of relationships to root for or against, and is chock-full of bizarre storylines that include the likes of vampires and demons. Not to mention, the fashion is totally killer! But there is a downside to all teen shows, one that never fails to throw a wrench into a successful series; the natural transition from high school to college.

A24 and We’re All Going to the World’s Fair director Jane Schoenbrun have teamed up for a new horror movie called I Saw the TV Glow, which JoBlo’s own Chris Bumbray had the chance to see at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year (you can read his 5/10 review at This Link). Yesterday, A24 took to social media to unveil a poster for the film, and to promise that a trailer would be online today. True to their word, they have already dropped the trailer online, and you can check it out in the embed above! I Saw the TV Glow is scheduled to reach theatres on May 3rd.
Written and directed by Schoenbrun, I Saw the TV Glow tells the story of two teenage outcasts who bond over their shared love of a scary television show. However, the boundary between TV and reality begins to blur after it is mysteriously canceled.

J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings is arguably the greatest fantasy franchise of all time, with the books and films holding up today. George R.R. Martin created the lore for Elden Ring, a hit video game developed by FromSoftware, the studio behind the popular Dark Souls series. An Elden Ring adaptation, whether through film or television, would be challenging to create, but the world that Martin helped bring to life is expansive enough to make a fantasy franchise similar to Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones.
The legacy J. R. R. Tolkien left behind in the fantasy genre is immeasurable, with him shaping and inspiring creators going forward and defining the genre. It is hard to see a series or property more beloved than The Lord of the Rings trilogy, estimated to have sold over 150 million copies, and the sales of J.R.R. Tolkien's books have surpassed 600 million.

For any engaging show in the fantasy genre, immersive worldbuilding and a clever sense of imagination are required to hook viewers in. Most importantly, these shows need characters for people to be invested in and - in some cases - to fear or hate. In these fantasy shows, the hero or group of heroes must face off against an opposing force that puts them through challenges.
Whether hungry for power, genuinely creepy, brutally violent, skillfully manipulative, or a little bit of all, these fantasy TV characters effectively present their villainous intentions. These antagonists manage to strike fear into both the characters and the viewers with their sinister nature, giving their respective series some necessary stakes. TV series can take major risks to stand out. Unexpected changes can keep audiences engaged. Risky moves pay off for memorable series.
Television shows can often become predictable as the seasons go on, but every once in a while, a series will take a major unexpected risk that totally pays off. While it can be a daunting prospect for television creators to go out on a limb and take a major risk, this can also be what sets their show apart from the plethora of other series on the air and ensures it stands out among so much competition. While a huge risk can sometimes destroy a faltering show, it can also be the thing that makes people want to watch it in the first place.

The series, currently titled “El Gato,” will be shot in both English and Spanish. Diego Boneta is attached to star, with Eric Carrasco adapting the comic book for the screen.

Eric Carrasco and the entire team have built a character and universe that honors the super hero genre and still feels completely epic and original. It is an absolute honor to play Frank and produce this with my amazing partners at Amazon, MGM, and all other producers on this epic story. Get ready for a wild ride.”

Diego Boneta is set to lead the newly greenlit bilingual series El Gato (w/t), based on the comic book series El Gato Negro by Richard Dominguez. Production is anticipated to begin this spring in Mexico.
Boneta was previously attached to a project based on the same comic book titled El Gato Negro: Nocturnal Warrior from MGM Television and Mark Burnett in 2019 that stalled.
In El Gato, Boneta will play Frank Guerrero, the black sheep of his family, who finds himself at the center of a vast conspiracy when he discovers his father was the titular ‘70s vigilante. Frank, who returns home to Mexico after the death of his father and finds himself neck-deep in a nest of vipers – his estranged family – who are vying for control of his father’s business empire.

Oppenheimer took the top prize at the 2024 Producers Guild of America Awards on Sunday night.
The film won the Darryl F. Zanuck Award for outstanding producer of theatrical motion pictures, a day after taking top prize at the Screen Actors Guild Awards.
Other big winners were Beef, which also won at the SAG Awards and Sunday’s Film Independent Spirit Awards, along with Succession and The Bear, both of which also won SAG Awards on Saturday.
Oppenheimer producer Emma Thomas accepted the theatrical motion picture award, noting that in a room full of producers, “This means so much coming from you, this room is full of people whose work we admire,” adding, “You know how hard the job can be, you also know how great the job can be; it’s the best job on set.” She also called director Christopher Nolan (who is also her husband) “the best producer you can possibly hope for.

Some producers will say it’s hard to be a producer in today’s world of streaming vs. theatrical — heck, even post-pandemic, but Gail Berman provided a lot of inspiration while accepting the Norman Lear Award at tonight’s PGA Awards.
At the aorta of her acceptance speech (watch it above) was how she got Buffy the Vampire Slayer off the ground, born out of a 1992 summer B-movie.
“Not a single person was interested in buying that television show,” she said onstage. “I mean not a single person on this Earth was interested in buying that television show. I couldn’t ignore my gut. An empowerment story with a young woman at the center. We got ‘no’ after ‘no’ after ‘no.’ Then one day, we finally got a ‘yes.’ And I gotta say, it all comes down to resilience.”

“I’d say it starts with a feeling,” Victoria Alonso says.
Other producers featured in the video include Tommy Oliver, James Lopez, Taja Perkins, Ian Cooper, Kyle Wilson, Gary Goetzman, Linda Morel, Sharon Lopez, Jessica Elbaum and Christine Oh.
They take turns talking about all the obstacles they have to go through to make a production happen, like directors asking for a Black Hawk but not specifying if they meant the helicopter or the bird. Wilson says he ended up booking both.

Thanks to his roles as perhaps Stars Hollow's most unorthodox resident, Kirk Gleason, on "Gilmore Girls" and the sensitive Ravager Kraglin Obfonteri in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (where he also served as the on-set stand-in for Rocket Racoon), most people have probably laid their eyes upon Sean Gunn's mug at some point. For a long time, though, he was one of those actors who could pop his head into a major film or TV series, then vanish before you even had time to register whether you recognized that dude from somewhere.
Like his brother, filmmaker James Gunn, Sean Gunn got his start on Troma's B-movie farce "Tromeo and Juliet" in 1996. A few years after that, he scored a small role in a major TV venture, playing the demonic Lucas in the first season of the "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" spinoff "Angel." Gail Berman’s four-decade-plus career has taken her from Broadway to the big screen and back again, with stints as a studio chief and a new media entrepreneur in between.
“I’m your pivot girl,” says Berman, who last year received nominations for both a best picture Oscar (“Elvis”) and a comedy series Emmy (Netflix’s “Wednesday”). “Every five years, I have to do something else. It’s just my nature.”
Berman scored her first producing credit at the age of 23 when she and her former U. of Maryland classmate Susan R. Rose brought to Broadway a production of the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.” After a decade-long run in the theater biz, burned out on raising money, she took a job as an associate producer for HBO’s new sister outlet, the Comedy Channel.

Pedro Pascal, aka the internet’s boyfriend, has inevitably performed some of the greatest feats throughout his acting career. But this very acting career and all the star-studded roles he is finally able to land didn’t all come to him served in a silver plate, no. The cast of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" gave some of the best performances in teen soap history, and Kristine Sutherland's performance as Buffy's mother Joyce was no exception. Although Joyce was typically removed from the action of the show, she was a consistent presence in the first five seasons of the series before her character's tragic death. Buffy's mother was a protective force in her life before and after she discovered her true identity, and she was raising her all on her own.
Sutherland had portrayed a mother on screen before when landing the role of Joyce Summers, having played the supporting role of Mae Thompson in "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids." However, the actress found that her "Buffy" character offered new shades of complexity to the archetype of an onscreen mother. We see Joyce struggle between wanting to discipline Buffy and wanting, above all, to understand her. The...

Buffy the Vampire Slayer was a reigning classic during the late 90s and early 00s. Following Buffy Summers (Sarah Michelle Gellar) as she honed her destiny as a vampire slayer, the show was a twist on the typical teen show format and opted for some spookier aspects mixed in with the classic high-school drama. One of Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s biggest strengths was adapting to its surroundings and the times. Where most teen shows tend to spin their wheels once the characters grow out of high school, Buffy took it in stride and allowed the show to grow with them. It still kept its signature humor throughout, and its kick-ass fashion, but it began to delve into heavier topics and deal with the more emotional aspects of Buffy’s (Sarah Michelle Gellar) life as a slayer. A lot of fans call out Season 6 as the season where the change was most noticeable,...

There was this rumor just recently that Ryan Coogler, Michael B. Jordan, and Warner Bros. joined hands for another possibility of a vampire movie. But then, as always, it will not be a regular vampire movie, as for this project, the vampires will fight against the KKK or the other way around, with the KKK as the vampires, hunting Colored people.
In simple words, the Ku Klux Klan, also known as the KKK, is a white supremacist hate group that has inscribed myriad violent and murderous episodes of social disorder in its blood-stained history. More than that, the KKK is an odious and maleficent organization that neither upholds nor practices membership associated in any respect.

TV reunions often evoke strong emotions, with characters like Jin and Sun in Lost demonstrating the power of love and resilience. Separations in shows like Game of Thrones create opportunities for emotional reunions, as seen with Jon and Sansa's heartfelt connection. The lasting impact of well-crafted characters and relationships shines through in TV reunions, from The Last of Us to Twin Peaks and beyond.
Few events on TV can have the same emotional impact as characters reuniting after time away, and some stand out for constantly making audiences cry. The extended length of the television medium allows audiences to connect with characters in a profound and meaningful way, making their interactions far more impactful.
