  • The North End(1998) is one of the best films to come out of Boston during the past few years. In my opinion, it is better then Good Will Hunting because it doesn't have a Hollywood feel and seems more authentic. Frank Vincent is terrific as the actor/neiborhood chief as well as the two lead actors. It reminded me of early Scorsese in its look and feel(especially Mean Streets-1973). Before making this movie the director worked on Casino(1995) and his experience on working with Martin Scorsese seems to have payed off. One thing it shares with Mean Streets(1973) is the sudden violence that occurs thoughout the movie. It is a movie that should be released on Home Video for its a classic of Boston made Independent films.
