How is it forty years since 1984?? Well, that’s just how time works, my friends. It was a time before mobile phones. Before the internet. Before we got worried about and then forgot about Y2K. It was the year in which George Orwell envisioned a world of doublethink, room 101 and Big Brother. And it was several years before Room 101 and Big Brother would come to mean TV shows and not dystopian ideals. But we digress…
Fortunately, the very nature of films is that the passing of time does not erode the quality of a classic movie, and even more fortunately, 1984 was absolutely packed with them.
We have rounded up some of the best loved films across multiple genres from action, horror and comedy to family films and epics. All you have to do is identify the film from the quote.

Frank Skinner has explained why he longer wishes to be on TV.
The comedian, who had his own BBC One chat show in the 1990s, which moved to ITV from 1999 to 2005, said he thinks “radio and podcasts is the place for me” during a new interview.
Skinner was responding to a question that asked him whetherhe was happiest “on stage, radio or telly”.
“I’m 66 now,” he told Metro.co.uk. “I think the human face gets quite hard to look at when you get to about 60 onwards. So I think probably radio and podcasts is the place for me.”
He continued: “Plus, I like not having to shave.”
Skinner has been a fixture on TV screens for three decades now, with appearances on comedy shows, Room 101, Have I Got News For You and Taskmaster.
In 2014, he appeared alongside Peter Capaldi in an episode of Doctor Who.

As part of a colossal art project, Ilya Khrzhanovsky has made an intimately eerie examination of the banality of evil
On its own terms, Dau. Natasha is a brutally queasy and stark picture of the life of a fictional woman who works in the staff canteen of a Stalin-era scientific research institute in Moscow, headed by theoretical physicist Lev Landau (nicknamed “Dau”). It shows us her quarrelsome relationship with her younger assistant Olga, who waits on tables while Natasha serves at the till. Eventually, the film gives us a look inside Room 101, with all its terror and squalor.
However, the film cannot simply be judged on its own terms, but as part of a gigantic (but mostly unseen and perhaps unseeable) whole: a colossal multimedia art installation project 15 years in the making that has become legend. Not least, this is because of its weird similarity to the folie de...

Television’s love affair with time travel goes back a long way. Naturally, Doctor Who was one of the early proponents of the genre and since then there have been many successful (and many less so) series bringing time travel to the small screen. Quantum Leap mixed science with humour, drama and humanity, Continuum brought some genuinely intelligent ideas and Legends Of Tomorrow has thrown a whole lot of heroes into a mainstream tale of time travel and derring-do.
Over the past twelve months, time travel has been something of a go-to for TV schedules with Timeless, Frequency and mini-series 11.22.63 all coming up with something fresh to say. One show that seems...

In 1996, Chris Kraus traveled to Germany to attend the Berlin Film Festival. Even though the Berlinale rejected her experimental film, she was invited to screen it at the European Film Market, the business epicenter of the festival. “A profitable trade show in which product deemed unsuitable for the Festival is bought and sold,” is how Kraus later described the Efm in her 2000 book, Aliens & Anorexia. Arriving in Berlin with neither pre-arranged business meetings, networking contacts, nor party invites, the Efm was “like Room 101 in Orwell’s 1984, a cavalcade of horrors where you confront your deepest fears,” […]...

Welcome to the most terrifying place on Earth… A documentary-horror film exploring the phenomenon of ‘Sleep Paralysis’ through the eyes of eight very different people. These people (and a shockingly large number of others) often find themselves trapped between the sleeping and waking worlds, helpless, totally unable to move but aware of their surroundings while being subject to frequently disturbing sights and sounds.
A strange element to these visions is that despite the fact that they know nothing of one another, (and had never heard of sleep paralysis before it happened to them), many see similar ghostly ‘shadow men.’ This is one of many reasons many people insist this is more than just a sleep disorder.
The Nightmare digs deep into not only the particulars of these eight people’s uncanny experiences (through elaborate, sometimes surreal dramatisations), but it also explores their search to understand what they’ve gone through...

Very British Problems, the 1 million follower-plus @soverybritish Twitter feed turned best-selling book of Britons' daily woes, hits our small screens tonight (August 13).
Starring Jonathan Ross, James Corden and a variety of famous funny Brits moaning creatively in a Grumpy Old Men stylee, the Channel 4 series looks to bottle the retweet phenomenon for a non-social audience.
I meet its London-based creator Rob Temple to find out how that's going to work and, to be honest, exactly how it all got this far. Over a beer, not an under-heated cup of tea ("I don't even like tea," laughs Temple), I ask how the idea started. "Well, it started it in 2012, cause you told me to."
Now, this is sort of true. Full disclosure: I used to work with Rob. And I did implore him to start a Twitter feed, as despite having never seen it himself, his dry, pithy humour was clearly a good fit.

Don't you find that some days that there are tasks that you meant to do but never got round to doing? Hoovering, washing up and writing thank you cards for Christmases and birthdays. They all tend to get lumped to the back of the brain in the pile of chores that's as big as a hippopotamus.
Even The Doctor finds that there are some things that are long overdue. Places to go. People to meet. When you're a busy Time Lord saving planets all the time, the little things tend to get overlooked. So having mentioned an outer space Orient Express at the end of The Big Bang, The Doctor's been somewhat distracted ever since. What with killer astronauts, Trenzalore and regeneration taking up most of The Doctor's time, it's little wonder that it's taken him until now to get round to taking Clara along for one last fling aboard the Tardis.

George Orwell's novel is being re-tooled as a heartstring-plucker. Don't despair – share your dystopian visions of how bad it will be
The literary world is agog, reeling, aghast, at the news that Kristen Stewart is going to star in a romantic remake of 1984. You read that right. Romantic. Remake. 1984.
I've had to check to make sure it isn't 1 April. It isn't. This is happening, people. "Equals is an adaptation of the 1956 film 1984, which itself was based on George Orwell's classic novel about rebellion in a futuristic society," runs the story. Stewart told the AP that the remake is "a love story of epic, epic, epic proportion", where "things go wrong because you can't deny the humanity in everyone". "It's the most devastating story," she said. "I'm terrified of it. Though it's a movie with a really basic concept, it's overtly ambitious."
Indeed.
Anyway, the news has sent literary types into a flat spin.
