This was part of the Gosling travels series made in 1975 by Granada TV. Reporter Ray Gosling travelled around the north in search of interesting people and places. This one was a look at Whittingham Asylum, which at one time was the second largest Asylum in Europe.
He interviewed a few of the people who stayed at the asylum and ask's how they came to be there and what they thought about the conditions they lived under. Also some of the people who worked there and what life was like for them to.
I personally found it a bit depressing, think One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest but without the humour and you'll no what i mean. I guess this programme was a good insight to what life would of been like in one of these places.
