While Frodo and Sam edge closer to Mordor with the help of the shifty Gollum, the divided fellowship makes a stand against Sauron's new ally, Saruman, and his hordes of Isengard.
If the wall is breached, Helm's Deep will fall.
Wormtongue: Even if it is breached, it will take a number beyond reckoning, thousands, to storm the keep.
Saruman: Tens of thousands.
Wormtongue: But, my lord, there is no such force.
This was changed on the DVD, but on the original version of the movie, during the battle of Helms Deep the orks launched ropes with hooks on them at the top of the wall. They started to hoist the big ladders with the ropes. Two scenes later they pushed the ladders the rest of the way to the wall but the ropes were not there.
One section of credits is for the "Hammerhands" (presumably for carpenters). This is a reference to the name of the "historical" founder of Helm's Deep, Helm Hammerhand. Also, apprentice builders are known as "hammerhands" in New Zealand.
