Last year, New Line Cinema went all-in on a partnership with Barbarian (watch it Here) writer/director Zach Cregger and the film’s producers at BoulderLight Pictures. New Line came out the winner in a bidding war over Cregger’s next film, a mysterious horror project called Weapons… which was, at one point, set to star Pedro Pascal of The Last of Us and Renate Reinsve of The Worst Person in the World. Pascal had to leave the project so he could star in the Marvel Cinematic Universe reboot of Fantastic Four instead – and even though that much larger production hasn’t started filming yet, as of right now it looks like Fantastic Four is going to beat Weapons to the screen by about six months! While that superhero movie is set to reach theatres on July 25, 2025, New Line has announced (via Deadline) that Weapons has been given a theatrical...

1999 was an amazing year for movies. But, among all the classics like The Matrix, Fight Club, Being John Malkovich, Magnolia, Go, Three Kings, and so many more, one that often gets overlooked is The Mummy. Originally, the summer of ’99 was supposed to be all about Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, but a few weeks before that movie opened, The Mummy turned out to be an unexpected smash for Universal Pictures, with it spawning two sequels, a spin-off movie, and (less cool), a reboot.
With the movie turning twenty-five, the film’s director Stephen Sommers, revisited the film during an extended sit-down with THR. For those who may not be aware of his career, Sommers made a whole slew of super-fun adventure movies in the 90s, including a really solid re-imagining of The Jungle Book for Disney and the creature feature Deep Rising. Henry Cavill has starred in multiple action films in his career and has even performed many of his own stunts. The actor starred in two action comedies this year alone, featuring in Matthew Vaughn’s Argylle and Guy Ritchie’s The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, which saw him return to his action hero persona.
The Superman star also featured in Mission: Impossible – Fallout in 2018, which saw trade blows with Tom Cruise. The latter, who is known for performing dangerous stunts on his own reportedly inspired Cavill to do so on the sets of the film. However, he had to go through one obstacle before he was allowed to perform one iconic stunt that the Cruise-led franchise is known for.

While Hollywood has several incredible horror features already, a yet-to-be-released horror movie promises no less than a thrilling horror experience by taping into the essence of Tom Cruise’s one of the most iconic movies. Directed, written, and co-produced by Zach Cregger, Weapons, is being described as tonally similar to Cruise’s 1999 drama film Magnolia.

Although, the movie’s prospects certainly seem high already, what makes it even more thrilling is that similar to Cruise’s epic, Weapons too appears to be eyeing an incredible cast. After roping in the likes of Josh Brolin and Julia Garner, Alden Ehrenreich is the newest edition to the cast.

As he develops his follow-up to hit horror movie Barbarian, writer/director Zach Cregger has been quietly building the cast he needs for his latest, Weapons. Alden Ehrenreich is the most recent addition to an ensemble that already includes Josh Brolin and Julia Garner.
Weapons is mostly being kept under wraps, but we have previously heard it described as "an interrelated, multistory horror epic that tonally is in the vein of Magnolia", focusing on missing high school students. Which would not really surprise us given the terrifying intensity and invention of Barbarian.
New Line snapped up the rights to back the new film, which at one point had Pedro Pascal attached to star before his commitment to other gigs including Marvel's Fantastic Four took precedence. In a coincidental quirk, Garner is also in Fantastic Four, but in a smaller role as Shalla-Bal.

Julia Garner has joined Josh Brolin on Weapons, the new film from the director of Barbarian, Zach Cregger.
Julia Garner has been announced as the leading name in the ensemble for Zach Cregger’s soon-to-shoot horror project, Weapons.
We first learned about the film around a year ago when it became the subject of a heated bidding war. Cregger was coming of the back of 2022’s Barbarian, one of the buzziest horror films of that year. Barbarian didn’t just announce an exciting new voice in the horror genre, it also performed commercially earning $45m worldwide, amounting to around ten times its production budget.
With horror being seen as one of the only remaining genres to reliably pull audiences into cinemas, the success of Cregger’s film saw several studios keen to secure his future services. New Line CInema duly won out and around a year ago, the filmmaker’s next feature was announced.

There were many memorable cinematic performances that came from actresses in 1999 (Annette Bening in American Beauty, Samantha Morton in Sweet and Lowdown, Julianne Moore in Magnolia). And then there was a truly iconic turn from Reese Witherspoon as Tracy Flick, the terrifying antagonist in Alexander Payne’s sharp political satire, Election.
A cunning, ambitious and oh-so-annoying foil to her teacher and would-be mentor, Omaha-area social studies instructor Jim McAllister (Matthew Broderick), Tracy is at times the worst — for example, when her affair with Mr. McAllister’s best friend is discovered, the teenager has no qualms about abandoning him entirely — and in other moments, Tracy can be the absolute best. At least, she insists on that top slot, no matter what: having the highest grades, getting into the best college, winning a high school election — she’s destined for greatness, which in the time Election takes place means winning the office...

Action star Tom Cruise is often regarded as one of the last stars in Hollywood right now. The actor is known for his commitment to the cinematic experience through films such as the Mission Impossible franchise and Top Gun: Maverick. The actor has also delivered amazing dramatic performances in films like Magnolia and Jerry Maguire.
While Cruise is one of the biggest stars in Hollywood, the actor has also faced many struggles in life. The Risky Business star has come under fire for his association with the Church of Scientology and for his failed marriages. The actor has also revealed his childhood struggles with abuse from his father. However, none of that seems to have stopped the ‘savior of cinema’ from being a juggernaut.

Tom Cruise made headlines earlier this year with the announcement that he was returning to Warner Bros. after a decade to collaborate on a new project. A while back ago, fans were given the exciting update that Oscar-winning Mexican filmmaker Alejandro G. Iñárritu is helming the film. This makes the new project even more exciting for Tom Cruise as the director’s achievements speak volumes about his films.
Top Gun: Maverick star Tom Cruise has a more exciting film lining up than Top Gun 3
Adding to the excitement, it was reported that the project is being treated as a top secret at David Zaslav’s Warner Bros. Discovery. No plot details are released at this time, except the fact that Iñárritu teamed up with his Oscar-winning Birdman writers for the script of the film.

1999 was famously a great year for film, and it’s hard to pick what masterpiece from that year stands out as the greatest. Is it Paul Thomas Anderson’s “Magnolia”? Stanley Kubrick’s “Eyes Wide Shut”? Spike Jonze’s “Being John Malkovich”? One could reasonably come up with hundreds of answers (even the teen films that year were pretty great), but it’s hard to deny the most influential film of the year came from Lana and Lilly Wachowski.
On March 24, 1999, the Wachowskis invited America into “The Matrix:” a speculative science fiction world where the reality as we know it is all a lie. In the martial arts sci-fi saga, computer programmer and hacker Neo discovers that the peaceful world he lives in — a world that heavily resembles 1999 North America — is a simulation created by self-aware machines that went to war with their makers and won, trapping all of...

The idea that the world of kids’ television has a publicly friendly veneer that masks a dark underbelly is not remotely new. Child actors throughout the history of film and TV have both displayed immense and undeniable talent on screen, and then quickly devolved through addictions in the real world; examples range from Corey Feldman to Lindsay Lohan, with many others wedged in between. Films like Magnolia and Death to Smoochy go out of their way to satirize and sometimes vilify programming that feels exploitative to children by using them on screen.

The best thing that can be said about this treading-water weekend box office is that it would have been far worse without two niche audience films. And it is the last in February, with a much better March ahead.
“Bob Marley: One Love” (Paramount) repeats as number one with a respectable $13.5 million second weekend gross. It remains a possibility to reach a domestic $100 million, though this could be close. It fell 53 percent, not bad, but that’s compared to a first weekend when it already had a first two-day total of nearly $18 million before then.
That led a weekend coming to around $60 million total gross. Let’s be honest: That’s pathetic. “Marley” is doing fine, and the Manga “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba — To the Hashira Training” (Sony) #2/ $11.6 million and the faith-based adjacent drama “Ordinary Angels” (Lionsgate) #3/$6.5 million were credible performers versus anticipated results and investment. But the...

While the past two decades saw Tom Cruise transforming into a full-fledged action star, who pulls off his own stunts irrespective of the risk, there is more to his career than these big-budget action flicks. Even though the impact of the Mi franchise can’t be denied as it remains a staple in the realm of action filmmaking, prior to it, Cruise’s filmography was mostly dictated by dramas led by auteurs.

Cruise has worked with some of the greatest filmmakers of all time in his legendary career, including Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, Francis Ford Coppola, Ridley Scott, Tony Scott, Oliver Stone, Barry Levinson, Sydney Pollack, Brian De Palma, Cameron Crowe, Michael Mann, Stanley Kubrick, and Paul Thomas Anderson. Though he's been happy hanging off of planes (or flying them) for the last few years in the Mission: Impossible and Top Gun franchises, Tom Cruise is also looking to get back to the sort of auteur-driven, smaller-scale work that saw him win acclaim with the likes of Magnolia. Now, on the heels of him making a deal with Warner Bros., it appears he's tracked down his choice. Cruise is on to star in Alejandro G. Iñárritu's next, untitled film.
Little is known about the new project, as the director is keeping it top secret for now. Deadline has learned that he wrote it in 2023 with Sabina Berman alongside his Birdman collaborators Alexander Dinelaris and Nicolas Giacobone.
Iñárritu took a break between 2015's Oscar-winning The Revenant and 2022's Bardo: False Chronicle Of A Handful Of Truths, which was released via Netflix.

Fresh on the heels of Cruise forging a “strategic partnership” with Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group, Warner Bros. and Legendary are in negotiations to acquire a new film from Alejandro González Iñárritu that will star Cruise, sources told IndieWire.
The untitled project marks “The Revenant” auteur’s latest collaboration with his “Birdman” co-writers Alexander Dinelaris and Nicolas Giacobone, with Sabina Berman also sharing a screenwriting credit. Cruise is set to produce along with Legendary.
Plot details are being kept under wraps.
Warner Bros. and Legendary did not immediately respond to IndieWire’s requests for comment.
The film would be Iñárritu’s first English-language feature since 2015’s “The Revenant,” which landed Leonardo DiCaprio a Best Actor Academy Award. Iñárritu’s 2014 English-language “Birdman,” starring Michael Keaton, won Best Picture. He released the Spanish-language passion project “Bardo” on Netflix in 2022.

Tom Cruise will star in the new feature from The Revenant filmmaker Alejandro G. Iñárritu, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
Warner Bros. and Legendary Entertainment are in talks to acquire the package, which marks Iñárritu’s first English-language film since the Leonardo DiCaprio starrer The Revenant nearly a decade ago.
Plot details are being kept under wraps for the feature project that was written by Iñárritu, Sabina Berman, Alexander Dinelaris and Nicolás Giacobone.

The last American movie star. The savior of cinema. Maverick. There are plenty of superlatives thrown around Tom Cruise these days—including by us—and for good reason. In an era where audiences increasingly only venture to the theater for familiar intellectual property (if at all), Tom Cruise remains one of the last old school marquee names people turn out for in order to watch the actor.
And more often than not, they’re justified in that trust, because Cruise has spent his middle-age proving that like his most popular alter-ego—Navy pilot Pete Mitchell—he has no intention of turning in his wings. It’s a common observation to even note that the Mission: Impossible movies Cruise made in his 50s were better than the ones he made in his 30s, and his dedication to in-camera stunts in those films, as well as Top Gun: Maverick, have increasingly resembled...

The Goonies star Josh Brolin is reportedly in negotiations to take the title role vacated by Pedro Pascal in Cregger’s ‘multi-story horror epic’.
Last year, we saw a furious bidding war between several studios vying to secure Weapons, Zach Cregger’s next film. Following the breakout success of 2022’s Barbarian, there was plenty of interest in Cregger’s follow-up project. That’s partly because the last couple of years have seen some big moves in the horror space, with each studio looking to secure popular filmmakers to work in a genre that continues to flourish, even as other types of films face a less certain future.
In the end, New Line Cinema secured Cregger’s services and it seems like the filmmaker is getting carte blanche to make whatever he wants to, with Weapons being described as a ‘multi-story horror epic’ in the expansive style of Paul Thomas Anderson’s Magnolia.

Just last month, Tom Cruise entered a partnership with Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group chiefs Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy to develop and produce original and franchise theatrical films, but what kind of movies does Cruise really want to make? By risking life and limb with real stunts in movies such as Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning and Top Gun: Maverick, Tom Cruise has become the biggest action star on the planet. While the actor will doubtlessly continue in the action realm, a report from Variety states that Cruise would like to return to the early days when he worked on serious, dramatic movies with directors such as Martin Scorsese, Stanley Kubrick, and Paul Thomas Anderson.

Last year, New Line Cinema went all-in on a partnership with Barbarian (watch it Here) writer/director Zach Cregger and the film’s producers at BoulderLight Pictures. New Line came out the winner in a bidding war over Cregger’s next film, a mysterious horror project called Weapons. Josh Brolin is in negotiations to star in Weapons, the New Line horror thriller from Barbarian filmmaker Zach Cregger.
The feature is Cregger’s highly anticipated Barbarian follow-up and was to have shot last year but the dual writers and actors strikes caused the movie to push its initial fall 2023 start of production. The three met to identify a film that would kick off their nonexclusive “strategic partnership.” Sources say a raft of possibilities were discussed, including an “Edge of Tomorrow” follow-up and Quentin Tarantino’s “The Movie Critic,” which currently isn’t set up with a distributor and has Warner Bros., like every major studio, salivating.
At 61, Cruise remains the king of studio tentpoles, a roost solidified by 2022’s “Top Gun: Maverick,” which took in $1.5 billion worldwide. But Cruise wants more than action stardom — he’d like to return to working with auteurs like Paul Thomas Anderson. In fact, he hasn’t earned an Oscar nomination for acting since he appeared in Anderson’s 1999 drama “Magnolia.” Earlier in his career, Cruise benefited from...
