R | | Horror, Mystery
Three film students vanish after traveling into a Maryland forest to film a documentary on the local Blair Witch legend, leaving only their footage behind.
When Joshua Leonard and Heather Donahue pick up Michael C. Williams, they were originally listening to the song "We Gotta Get Out of This Place" by The Animals on the radio. However, Haxan Films couldn't get the rights to keep it in the film.
Are you happy?
Heather Donahue: I'm not happy, no. But the car's not far - we're just not going to be able to find it in the dark.
After the map is lost, there is much talk of following a single direction in the hope of getting out of the woods ASAP. The most obvious course of action (which occurs, apparently, to no-one) would be to follow the course of the river that they keep crossing then hiking away from.
The beginning and end credits are designed in the style of a documentary, e.g. jumping slightly, static instead of rolling credits.
