I woke up one morning and buy accident i turned on TV and saw episode of Hope Island, since two weeks ago ,now i wake up every morning at 9 to watch it ,its very nice show , smooth, everyday story about people on hope island, i don't know , i was reading that this show is canceled after 1 season , and that made me feel very bad, show is super. and i have enough on TV of this stupid shows like Bold and Beautiful , As the world turns , etc,etc who are running since years ,and now finally one decent series comes on TV and they cancel it , i hope in future they make more of such a series like Hope Island , its just started in my country so i will enjoy while i can to watch it , drinking in the morning my few cups of coffee and enjoying the series , I give it 10* , its really wonderful show !!
  • I am not a big TV fan. And, I highly recommend Hope Island for anyone who is tired of the usual network programming. Hope Island is a refreshing alternative to shows that pass for programming on most networks. Hope Island makes up for it's lack of violence, gratuitous sex, mean spirited humor, and offensive scripts with a cast of lovable and believable characters.

I find myself rooting for the `good guys' who seem to struggle with the same questions in life that I struggle with. In a few short episodes, I have formed an attachment to and affection for the characters on Hope Island.

In addition, the show is especially well crafted. For those of you who find the sloppy production that is the norm offensive, Hope Island is a treat. I am especially impressed with the sound editing. I am constantly amazed by the subtle and effective use of sound in Hope Island to convey just the right mood for the scene.
  • I am so excited about this show. I just started watching it a few weeks ago on Vision TV - in Canada. I absolutely love it! I find the characters interesting and the story line great. It is hard to find shows on TV that are free of swearing, adultery, drugs, etc. This is a great show for the whole family. It is funny, moving, and it has captured my attention. My 11 year old son even likes it. It is easy, relaxing, and a nice break from the other shows out there. Watching it I find I can almost enter their world and forget about all the stresses of my own life. When the show is over I always feel refreshed and uplifted. The acting by all the characters is great. Each character portrays different personalities.

I have watched every single episode a few times now and I would still watch it all over again in a heart beat as it has everything a family could want. Why oh why are all the good shows...NO great shows like Hope put out to pasture. Maybe the following at first was not great but now there is a following so why can it not be brought back. Lord knows there is very little on the air worth watching. If the producers do come by these sites then to them I say consider bringing it back as many people love this show. Before my Mother passed away she loved watching Hope Island and she was so upset when it was canceled. The setting on Vancouver Island was the perfect choice and I hope one day to visit the place of filming.

This show is truly excellent! I never saw "Ballykissangel," which it was based on, but I really like this show. Not only is the scenery beautiful, but the story lines are good & the acting makes things seem real & Hope Island really seems like the kind of community in which I could live. It's too bad that such a good show couldn't have lasted longer!

Not all the stars have been seen much, but each one is featured at one time or another, and each one also does a great job of bringing his/her character to life. Even though the show is primarily about Reverend Cooper, not all the stories are focused on him. Yet his relationships to each of the main characters and others are portrayed well and are clearly seen.
  • This show is one of the best I've ever watched. I accidentally found it one morning on Vision TV when i was off work sick and afterward I taped it every day so as not to miss it and then all of a sudden it was gone! I'm saddened and disappointed that television continues to air brain dead "reality" shows (demonstrating that people who write television no longer have any imagination)and programming full of violence and sexual content and yet removes a family show from the air. This is a show that even my husband enjoyed. He has a military background and loves anything army, western or cop so think about it. This was a show that everyone (regardless of age or gender) could enjoy together. I can't begin to count the number of times I've heard people complain about how people in general today have no values or respect, how society is becoming more violent, how sexualized everything is. Does no one wonder how it got to be this way? Why do we remove shows that have wonderful, endearing, REAL characters who emulate good, strong, ethical values, who struggle with everyday problems in a humorous, non violent, non sexualized way and replace them with everything we say we abhor? It's not like I am a person who is looking to censor everything that is vaguely naughty or one who won't watch the occasional movie that contains gratuitous violence. I enjoy NCIS and Criminal Minds but I have to admit, I truly miss the shows of my youth where it was about PEOPLE and CHARACTERS and everyday struggles and the resiliency of the human spirit and caring about others. I am truly disappointed in PAX's decision to take this show from the air. It's a Canadian show that I was truly proud of. I would love it if they would bring it back. Is there anyway to get a DVD of this series to the point it left off?
  • Monday night was set aside to sit together as a family and watch Hope Island. A clean, warm, funny, thought-provoking show is a rare find in this day and age. My entire family misses it and that includes my parents, my 19 year-old sister, and grandma and grandpa! Will some other network please get a hold of this show and keep it going? We were avid watchers of Due South as well and it was a hit in Canada. This is done in Canada, so I'm hoping that they will do whatever revamping is necessary to re-air the show. Please, bring it back as soon as possible!
  • Warning: Spoilers
My comments of Hope Island are very good. I haven't found a TV show that I had enjoyed like Touched by an Angel until Hope Island came around. I don't comment on any other programs so this is saying a lot. I didn't see Hope Island when it was on its regular TV run. I have caught it of course where else but in re-runs. In Canada where I live I watch it on the W network and on Vision TV. Every morning I can't wait until 8 am to watch it and if I can't see it I am usually taping it. I am curious which was the last episode? The last I seen was the one where Daniel Cooper's father shows up and asks him to come home to help him run the family business. Did I miss the last episode? Did Alex and Daniel finally get together? It would really be great if they would bring it back as it was a good television series and it was a program you could have everyone in your family watch without worry! Hope Island was a program that was unique. Watching it brought a feeling like one could relate or that it was a "real" community unlike other programs on TV.
  • If you know where there is a copy; let me know!!! I used to stay up late to watch it. was 3:00 in the morning, on Vision, I think. Saw every episode at least twice; Thought it would go on forever. Should have recorded it. Never crossed my mind the copy right holder would bury it!?! I guess sometimes pirating is just the right thing to do. Would love to pay for a copy though. Or how about adding it to Netflix like everyone is now racing to do.

Love this show; it's only knock was, another Canadian TV show that had to have an American setting? There is no Hope Island, but it had to be the US west coast, instead of where it was actually shot, 100 miles north.
  • My family recently stumbled upon Hope Island by watching Pureflix while on vacation. We absolutely LOVED it. It is such a clean and positive series. Every episode just keeps getting better and better. Shame on us for letting programming like this last just one season while so much other garbage goes on for years.
  • Can't believe I did t find out about this show until 22 years after it was made. Sad it's only one season, wish there was more. Great family friendly story telling.
  • We began watching this wonderful family friendly show and looked forward to watching one episode a night. We would come home, have dinner, catch up on the news and finish our night with an episode. We just realized that it never made it past season 1!!! Was there a vote? Who decided? We are so heart broken. In this day and age where there is such garbage on TV it was a blessing from the past. A little throwback into life long ago. So very sad. Why was it taken off? I see everyone is older now. We need a remake. We need simple. Not everyone has to watch. But for those of us that do we need it back!

Hope Island was the best show that I have ever seen. I was very upset at the cancellation of it by PAX tv. This show was a big part of my life. I always watched it and have a part in the Bring Hope back To Our Homes Campaign. Help us Hope Fans and other fans. In Canada, Showcase is re-airing reruns of the show at night, so if you are in Canada, ask you local t.v. company if you can or do get it. We have done everything, and now it's time for you to help us. You can read Fan Fiction written by us fans, and share you comments and stories. Hope Island fans untie and help us bring Hope back to our homes!
  • As always happen to me, losing some time I found this show and was just an episode a good reason to become a fan. I know, it's and American version of an Irish show, but in some way it has some things in common with Gilmore Girls: maybe the little town with many good an lovely characters who make this show something unique. With Gilmore Girls, the stories change to something too "beautiful" and silly, like human version of some kind "Hello kitty show", everything was so perfect and clean (the reason why I don't watch it anymore). Instead Hope Island there was a realistic version of the characters, not all was clean and perfect, some themes where very tragic, but with a deep exploration of everything. But what's is better, as I told to a christian friend, there is more heart, true and faith in this show than many studies of the bible I have read in my life, and that's make it unique.

    10/10
    Great
I hated see this show end with season 1. What a great disappointment. I truly enjoyed the warmth and compassion of a small community setting and the true friendship of all/. How they stood together and supported one another through all, I loved how the pastor took Dylan under his wing and was a true father to him, when his real father abandoned him. Even though this pastor could have been a great TV evanglist following in his father's footsteps, he found oontentment in a small church He did not need fame and wealth to do what God had chosen him to do. The LOVE that is portrayed in this movie is great!
  • My husband and i both fell in love with this treasure of a show. Every single thing about it was refreshing and realistic in that way. The community, the issues and life on life's terms, perfection in storyline and casting, the friendships, the acting, the writing, the area itself...loved it. .It's special. Found it last year and its my favorite show on tv! You want to experience it, and we do right along with them. I so wish there werr more seasons. We watch this all the way thru over and over. Its delightful and hopeful and i dont think it couldve been done better. Its a true little treasure. For sure.
  • I only wish I had known about this show earlier. I LOVE it - and I would have campaigned for more seasons. The story lines touch on every day issues. The actors and characters are believable and real and come to be your friends. I don't have to worry about X rated topics or images. I have to admit - I watch this series at least once a week. Every time I watch an episode - I see something new that I missed previously. Although I don't want a remake or continuation of the series - it just wouldn't be the same - I do wish there were more episodes to watch. I don't think it could ever be remade with same depth these original actors brought to the story.
  • This is the Americanized version of "Ballykissangel" from Ireland (Just like "Three's Company" was based upon a British show). It was a very good series for the family, just like the Irish series. The characters were 3 dimensional and human and the acting was 8 out of 10. Too bad the series was cancelled by PAX-TV after only one season. The similarities between the Irish and the American versions were actually quite amusing. When they cast 'Kevin' the policeman in the American version, they found an actor who could be a brother of the actor in the Irish version.
  • Hope Island is one of those shows that you can sit down to after a bad day and be measurably more cheerful after it is over. It's always nice to watch a story about a place that you could live, if things had been different. No super-people. Just people.

Daniel Cooper is the new minister whose first welcome to Hope Island was not exactly warm. Especially the welcome from Alex Stone, the owner of the Widow's Walk and a woman with a few issues about organized religion.

The island is full of memorable characters, who quickly accept Daniel into island life. They get into a surprising amount of trouble, and it is left to Daniel to sort them all out, often with the help of Alex and Father Mac.

This really is a beautiful show, and I strongly recommend it. (PAX tv, Sunday and Monday nights)
  • Even though I have taped Hope Island, I wish it was still on t.v. Every episode has a message and a sweetness about it. The characters all have strengths and flaws, they grow as the series progresses and the viewer learns more about them all the time. Daniel, the main character, may be a minister, but he deals with day-to-day living and his vocation in a positive, but not heavy-handed way and sometimes humorous or heartfelt manner. The religious tone of the show is not overpowering, but seems comfortable and somehow reassuring. The Widow's Walk, the local inn/pub is sentry of many of the stories and the location of one of the few phones on the island. The isolation and the beauty of the island setting are an integral part of the stories. The non-island world is always in the background....lottery tickets are bought off island and were the focus of one great episode. This is a show that I watch when I need a smile, and hope in people.
  • My children and I watch Hope Island every time it comes on and that happens more then once a week. It is a show that has different emotions, sometimes funny, sad and on the edge of your seat with whose going to fall in love.

(Daniel) is new to the island as a minister which the island already has, so sometimes conflict comes between the two.

(Alex) is the owner of the bar/hotel of Hope Island. She is a single mother, with her son Dylan. She seems to smile a lot when Daniel is around. could love be in the air, or will friends last forever.

(Brian) is always out to make a quick but no matter how silly the deal is, and when it come to singing, he is way off key.

(Nub) is the town quiet mouse. Brian always includes Nub in some of his projects. Nub is a very sweet person and he will do anything for you.

(Kevin and Molly) are the towns sweethearts. Molly is also Brian,s daughter. Kevin is the local law enforcer.

(Callie) is the towns Newspaper editor.

there are others and guest stars stop by on the island.
  • This series has just started here in South Africa, and my hubby and I saw the first episode and LOVED it! HOPE-fully it will continue for a LONG time! One question though, please - who plays the role of Jake or Jack - the white-haired old man suffering from Alzheimers in this first episode - at my age (71!) I do sometimes tend to forget names, and this man's face is MADDENINGLY familiar. Where, oh where have we seen him before - please enlighten me before I throw a paper plate at the TV out of sheer frustration!!! At the same time I'd like to know where this series was shot, and this may seem like a stupid question, but is the series based on real life? Thank you for your patience.
  • I loved Hope Island, and was devastated when it was taken off the air. It was unique and charming. I really wish it would have stayed on t.v. longer. I can only hope that they will decide to show reruns soon. Hope Island was a great series and was a show the whole family could watch.
  • I think the show was cancelled because the ratings might have been very low. It is unfortunately a fact that a show MUST include severe sexually explicit images, or language, or anything provoking sex, to have high ratings. We can see that shows like Murray have been going on for years and years and have not been cancelled. Unfortunately, the majority of the TV's audience (which spend a lot of time watching TV weekly) include people with less demanding jobs. Depending on the job level, you can have a general idea of what amuses that certain population more. The higher the level of one's job's difficulty, less time they have, and their taste of movies are different. Clean, nice, calm, family oriented series, doesn't get enough watchers to earn its costs!!! Unless it involves some kind of violence or cruelty, or any fight scene, no matter for the good or evil cause. Like The Last Sammurai, which was a great movie, but did not sell enough. The earnings were mostly due to fight scenes, and not the beauty of the movie as a whole.
  • I just discovered Hope Island on PureFlix. I watched the entire season in a couple of weeks because once I got started, I didn't want to stop. I fell in love with the people, the island community, and the shows. It was clean and wholesome, but dealt with real-life problems. But you always finished feeling really good about the ways people dealt with each other and handled problems. Of course, not everyone in the show is wholesome and kind, just like real life, but they're still treated as valuable human beings. I often finished a show in tears reflecting on how I could handle life differently or see things in a different light. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this show!!!!
