Paramount Pictures has renewed its first-look deal with Lindsey Anderson Beer and her production banner Lab Brew.
In re-upping the deal, the studio has also picked up Here Comes the Dark, a supernatural thriller spec script by Shane and Carey Van Dyke, the duo who co-wrote the 2022 thriller Don’t Worry Darling. Anderson Beer and Lab Brew will produce.
Paramount’s renewal is a vote of confidence in Anderson Beer, who wrote and made her feature directorial debut with the horror movie Pet Sematary: Bloodline for the studio last year. The movie debuted as the No. 1 title on Paramount+ and quickly broke the streamer’s record for the most-watched Paramount+ original movie within the first 30 days of a film’s release in the U.S. Anderson Beer broke through by writing the popular Netflix movie Sierra Burgess Is a Loser.

The 1990 television adaptation of Stephen King's horror novel "It" may be best known for Tim Curry's performance as Pennywise, who made an entire generation seriously terrified of clowns, but it would be nothing without the heart and soul of the Loser's Club. In the 1950s, a group of misfit kids growing up in Derry, Maine are brought together, partially because they don't belong anywhere else, but also because they happen to be targeted by the malevolent force that haunts their town, stealing and murdering its local children. Together, they have to face off against Pennywise to stop the killing once and for all. That's what they think, anyway. But despite defeating Pennywise as children, they're forced to return to Derry as adults and once again confront the terrors of their youth.
As a result of this, "It" has an interesting casting dilemma of finding not only seven...

In 1991, when Debbie Gibson’s underrated third album, Anything Is Possible, stalled at #41 on the charts, the New York Times printed a full-page obituary for her relatively brief career titled “The Perils and Perishability of a Teen Idol.” In just a few short years, Gibson had gone from America’s sweetheart—anointed the youngest artist to write, produce, and perform a #1 hit—to being declared a pop casualty by the nation’s newspaper of record.
Only two years earlier, the Long Island teen had scored her biggest hit, “Lost in Your Eyes,” the lead single from her sophomore effort, Electric Youth. The album is arguably the weakest of Gibson’s four Atlantic releases, largely eschewing the sleek dance-pop and of-the-moment freestyle and hi-Nrg stylings of 1987’s Out of the Blue in favor of ostensibly more mature piano ballads and Motown-lite, which zapped her music of the exuberance that made her debut so charming.

All roads lead to The Beatles. Beck’s “Loser” is one of the most beloved songs from the 1990s alternative rock scene. It has some major similarities to a track from Beatles for Sale. John Lennon explained why he wrote a song about feeling like a loser.
John Lennon wrote 1 of The Beatles’ songs because he felt like ‘God Almighty’
One of the most ignored tracks from Beatles for Sale is “I’m a Loser.” The book All We Are Saying: The Last Major Interview with John Lennon and Yoko Ono features an interview from 1980. In it, John was asked about “I’m a Loser.”
He said it was one of his Bob Dylan-inspired songs. John described himself and Paul McCartney as musical chameleons who could mimic other stars like Dylan, Elvis Presley, and the Everly Brothers. He wrote it because he sometimes felt like a loser and sometimes felt like “God Almighty.

It’s not a regular remake, it’s a cool remake: Paramount has shared the official trailer for their 2024 iteration of Mean Girls, out in theaters January 12th.
Like a set of pink-clad Russian dolls, this new Mean Girls film is adapted from the Broadway musical Mean Girls, which was adapted from Tina Fey’s 2004 comedy classic Mean Girls. Fey wrote the book for the stage version, which landed on Broadway in 2018, and is back as screenwriter for the 2024 film, too.
For the uninitiated: Mean Girls (2024) stars Angourie Rice as Cady Heron, whose notably Caucasian family has just moved back to the states after a stint in Africa. She befriends two fellow outcasts at her new high school, Janis (Auli’i Cravalho) and Damian (Jaquel Spivey), and the three hatch a plan to take down the Plastics, an elite clique led by the infamous Regina George. It doesn’t go over so well.

This year marks Jimmi Simpson‘s 23rd anniversary in movies and television. The diverse actor got his start in a comedy called Loser. However, Simpson has gone on to star in dramas, thrillers, sci-fi, and action pieces that majorly shaped his career path throughout the years. Acting was simply in Simpson’s blood, as he took acting classes in high school back in Hackettstown, New Jersey. That passion expanded as the years passed by, and Hollywood’s favorite creep has been in over 50 movies and shows throughout the past two decades. This list will simmer down on the best ten movies or...

Postmodern attempts at genre defiance have become de rigueur for pop artists today. In a streaming-dominated world where we can type away on our laptops to ambient hip-hop in the morning, sing along to old yacht-rock hits on our afternoon commute, and dance to Edm at night, what other way is there to keep our attention than to try to give us everything everywhere all at once? We’ve gotten a few attempts to do just that so far in 2023, from Kara Jackson’s quietly rebellious blending of folk and R&b, to Yves Tumor’s kitchen-sink instrumentation, to 100 gecs’s audacious and absurd hyperpop assaults.
Many of the artists who appear on this list, though, no longer seem content to just break down old barriers, as they also seek to shatter interpersonal and emotional ones as well. The oft-cited isolation of modern living, heavily exacerbated by the pandemic, has...

Today’s indictment of Donald Trump quickly became tonight’s punchline for TV’s late-night hosts.
Trump arch-nemesis Jimmy Kimmel said he found out about Trump’s indictment less than two hours before walking onstage, but the Jimmy Kimmel Live! host had no problem filling most of his monologue with Trump jokes, including “The ‘J’ in ‘Donald J. Trump’ now stands for ‘Jail,’ ” and, “He’s going to be read his Miranda Rights. Wait until he finds out that all this time he had the right to be silent.”
Kimmel also had some suggested titles for new reality series Trump might sell, given his circumstances. Among them: The Celebrity Apprehentice, Arrested Developer and, of course, the all-purpose Biggest Loser.
Kimmel had earlier tweeted a video of himself walking out to rapturous applause and, taking a page out of Trump’s book, hugging a flag. “A day many of us thought would never come!

(Welcome to My Most Ridiculous Note, a series of interviews in which animators talk about the weirdest and funniest notes they received from studio executives.)
"Harley Quinn" is one of the funniest, most subversive, and overall best superhero shows around today. What could have easily been just an over-the-stop, crude, and hyper-violent adult cartoon quickly revealed itself to be full of heart and emotion, with great character arcs not just for Harley and Ivy, but the supporting cast, too.
This is a show that takes us inside Batman's mind, gives us the definitive version of the Waynes' murder, and even provides Bruce Wayne's first therapy session (kind of), all while also turning Joker into a loving stepfather, making King Shark an essential DC character, and giving Bane a characterization we could only dream of.
The show was created by Justin Halpern, Patrick Schumacker, and Dean Lorey, all making their debuts in animation.

Received rock wisdom teaches us that punk and prog are sworn enemies. But by the early-to-mid-2000s, genres that seemed worlds apart in the late Seventies had started to creep closer together. The Mars Volta’s psychedelic 2002 post-hardcore fever dream De-Loused in the Comatorium suggested a wondrous hybrid; further underground, a one-off album by an obscure New York band called Gospel made these active ingredients explode. The band quickly frayed, but the LP — The Moon Is a Dead World, which expertly grafts shrieking desperation onto virtuosic synth-driven mini-epics — has become a cult classic,...

Few Grammy Awards were as memorable as the 57th annual event. That night, Sam Smith almost swept the general field, Kendrick Lamar won his first awards, and Sia delivered one of the most memorable Grammys performances of the 21st century. But most importantly, the 2015 ceremony was remembered for the last award presented, which would prove not only controversial but, to many people, an exemplification of certain problems with the recording academy that have only gotten worse since then. The night of the 57th Grammy Awards was defined by one big question: how did Beck beat Beyonce?
To understand Beck’s landmark win, we first have to take a short look into his previous work. Beck has been known for making eclectic yet mainstream alternative music. His debut album, the folk-driven “Golden Feelings,” didn’t receive much attention. It wasn’t until his third studio album, “Mellow Gold,” that Beck got...

This article contains major It Chapter Two spoilers.
After 2017’s It became the highest opening horror movie of all time two Septembers ago, it was a forgone conclusion that we would soon be watching an It Chapter Two. And unlike most sequels, it made creative sense. By adapting Stephen King’s ponderous tome about the childhood terrors and traumas we suppress, director Andy Muschietti wisely cut the nearly 1,200-page book in half. Presented in print as a back-and-forth dialogue between childhood and adulthood, Muschietti opted to tell the story (mostly) chronologically and focus simply on childhood in 2017.
So any King fan knew going in that there must be a sequel to finish the tale. For closure, we needed to return to Derry again, whether we wanted to or not.

Andy Muschietti’s return to Derry, Maine is accompanied by incomparable fanfare. It floated up, up and away to inflated critical infatuation and mountains of box office returns, creating an instant genre phenomenon. It’s an unfair success for any sequel to live up to, even enlisting a star-studded adult Losers cast. Could It: Chapter Two replicate the darkness, sincerity, and clown-about terror of 2017’s face-painted juggernaut? Muschietti does Stephen King proud in completion but falls short in bottling carn-evil perfection twice in one franchise (still praise).

Diane Ladd is remembering all the fond, and at times scary memories, she shared with Peter Fonda from the beginning of her career to the end of his.
Shortly after news broke that Fonda died on Friday, Ladd, 83, paid tribute to her longtime friend and costar, who she had worked with and come to personally know for more than five decades.
As she looked back on their friendship, Ladd noted how she starred alongside Fonda in her first film, Wild Angels in 1966, and serendipitously, had an opportunity to work with him again on The Last Full Measure, the final film before his death.

The MTV Movie and TV Awards are voted on by fans online, which is usually good news for teen idols with passionate fan bases. Sasha Sloan bemoans her ability to continue “Faking It” in the moody video for her latest single. The singer-songwriter will embark on a North American tour this spring.
“Faking It” appeared on Sloan’s 2018 Ep Loser. In the video, Sloan has what appears to be a normal relationship with her boyfriend but sad glances reveal that she’s merely hiding the fact that she is no longer happy with him. She lies awake at night and drives around town, with the video ending with him holding her as she looks off in the distance.

Netflix collects reams of data, but it keeps most viewing metrics close its vest. That leaves third-party measurement firms to try to estimate what’s trending on the streaming service.
Occasionally, though, Netflix does dribble out a few stats — to promote its own original TV shows and movies. That’s despite the fact that the majority of subscriber viewing time is for content licensed from other studios according to independent research.
For what it’s worth, Netflix announced its three most-rewatched original movies of 2018: teen rom-coms “The Kissing Booth” and “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before,” and “Roxanne Roxanne,” a biopic about rapper/hip-hop artist Roxanne Shanté. According to Netflix, almost 50% of viewers who watched “Kissing Booth” and “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” rewatched them at least once.
Those three were tops among original films released between Jan. 1-Nov. 28, 2018, based on global viewing, Netflix said.

If you didn't watch (and then rewatch) the Netflix original movie To All the Boys I've Loved Before this Summer, it seems you were in the minority. Netflix has just revealed that the rom-com was one of the streaming service's "most viewed original films ever with strong repeat viewing."
It came during a Summer in which Netflix released a number of original movies, particularly romantic comedies, and though it had strong competition from the likes of Set it Up, Sierra Burgess is a Loser, and The Kissing Booth, Talbilb was definitely the runaway hit, mostly due to the adorable chemistry between its young stars Lana Condor and Noah Centineo. Fans soaked up every second of the sweet film, which even boosted sales of a certain probiotic drink.

Maybe Hiss Golden Messenger said it best, in a tweet after Friday night’s tribute to Jerry Garcia at downtown Los Angeles’ Theatre at Ace Hotel (at which lead singer Mc Taylor was one of the performers): “Seeing Stephen Malkmus, Benmont Tench and David Hidalgo onstage together creates a hugely enjoyable cognitive dissonance.” In this particular Dead-related case, “cognitive dissonance” was not even intended as a synonym for tripping, but just the fun of seeing celebrity fans from different disciplines focus attention on some of Garcia’s under-celebrated sides. At the end of the three-hour show, you could even say: What a long trip of strange bedfellows it’s been.
