  • In fact, the German dub is a lot better and gives all characters a pleasant voice. However, this does not help against the really ridiculous dialogues the fact that in some episodes less happens than in "Caillou" and that all characters always have to address each other with first and last names. And why are things always repeated unnecessarily?

Here in Germany, was the series shockingly pretty popular. Everyone in the schoolyard only talked about Angela Anaconda, I think because nobody understood why the show went on and on TV.

The series is dull, uninteresting, ugly as sin, and still has been the poster boy of Super RTL until we got Spongebob.

Honestly and objectively I would have to share my rating again divide by 5 but I had so much fun with this series because you can make fun of it so perfectly that I just go out with a smile every time
  • This is not coming from an adult who takes pleasure in judging animated shows harshly, who makes up unfounded excuses as to why certain stuff should not be seen, who is jaded and who judging it too much through adult eyes and not from a childhood stand-point.

Far from the truth. Although a young adult, this negative review is actually coming from somebody who is a young adult but a child at heart and aims to be honest, encouraging and perceptive without being insulting or arrogant about how my opinions are expressed. Also as a huge fan of animation, and mostly actually am easily pleased when it comes to watching it on a regular basis. Oddly enough it takes a lot for me to be critical of animation, but it's far from been unheard of due to a lot of bad animations out there as well as a higher number of good and more ones.

Another commentator has mentioned hating it as a child as well an adult. Have to concur with this, was halfway through primary school when 'Angela Anaconda' aired on Cartoon Network, often during summer holidays at odd times of the day, and disliked it intensely then from the start but kept watching to be fair on it and see if it get better. As said, there are a lot of shows that start off rocky but become much more settled and at their best they're really good or more. That never became the case with 'Angela Anaconda', it stayed consistently terrible and it is not hard to see why it was relatively short lived (despite high ratings and mixed critical reception at the time, now it's often considered one of the top 10 worst "scary" cartoons of all time) and has faded into relative obscurity. Decided to re-watch to see whether my view had changed (whether it was a case of not getting its style or something) or whether my memories of it being poorly animated, irritating, disturbing, negatively stereotypical and repetitive with terrible voice acting and an annoying theme song were the same.

Unfortunately, my childhood perspective memories of 'Angela Anaconda' are exactly the same as an adult. Do appreciate more what the animation style was, having had over-time gained more knowledge of various styles and doing more research on them, and that the show was going for a mix of computer animation and photo-graphics (for the characters' faces mainly). Could have been an innovative technique, certainly sounded like it, sadly it was an innovative technique that was poorly done and looked ugly. No make that hideous, ugly feels more beautiful in comparison describing a show that just looks so drab in colour, stiff in movement and just so unappealing in every way, a visual eyesore if you will.

The theme song is still annoying. It has a simplistic melody (too simplistic to be catchy, but it turns out memorable for all the wrong reasons), very poorly written and cheesy lyrics (that make one hate the titular character even before the story kicks in) and particularly the grating voice of the titular character that is enough to haunt nightmares of those not usually prone to them. The rest of the music is instantly forgettable and is more intrusively discordant with the action than fitting it let alone enhancing.

'Angela Anaconda' still is a really badly written show. Nothing funny or smart here, nor intelligent or identifiable. It's just childish, unfunny and repetition-heavy. The stories are also predictable and repetitious, every story has been done to death and a billion times better. In that they were done in a funny and truthful way (never happened here), had more variation and weren't so reliant on stereotyping and when it did it was in a healthier way. The rivalry/hatred between Angela and Nannette is overplayed and so stereotypical, and made even worse by that Angela's fantasies go well overboard on the sadistic factor that it becomes distasteful.

Not to mention the characters, who nearly single handedly sink 'Angela Anaconda'. Not one single entertaining, warm or likable character. Angela is high up in the list of the top 15 most irritating protagonists in animated television, not just her hideous animation and her truly messed up behaviour that nobody can relate to (due to that she never seems to be properly remorseful) but in particular her voice (shudder). Nannette is just the typical rich, bratty, teacher's-pet, snob with nothing to her. Arch rivalry/school antagonism has had far more dynamic and subtlety elsewhere.

Characterisation-wise, 'Angela Anaconda' is a throwing-as-much-as-you-can-find-kitchen-sink's worth of stereotypes, portrayed with a complete lack of subtlety and making the characters both dull and unbearable annoying. The voice acting makes the ears bleed, television animation voice acting at its very worst. Angela and Mrs Brinks are the worst, have already mentioned what is so wrong with Angela's. Regarding Mrs Brinks, Mrs Brinks was voiced by a man and one can tell, have absolutely no bias against men voicing women (it actually has been done surprisingly well) but this voice just sounded so unnatural and not feminine in the slightest, more like a phoney-sounding drag queen.

In summary, don't accept 'Angela Anaconda's' less than warm welcome introduction indicated in the theme song. Children and adults alike are best avoiding it to keep hold of their sanity rather than take leave of it. Just my very respectful thoughts though. 1/10 Bethany Cox
  • "My name is Angela, hey hello, welcome to my very own show. I'll introduce my friends to you. Oh no it's Ninny Pooh. Shooby shooby, doo, wha, wha! My name is Angela and you are not Nannette Manoire. You stuck up, snot faced, snot. Welcome to my show, starring me and not starring Nannette Manoire."

This show was one of my guilty little pleasures but I can't say much about the content of this show since it's really a children's show. I think it's okay for children and some adults if they can stomach Angela's voice. I also have to say that if your kids like this show then fine and if they don't then that's okay too. It has your typical grade school stuff in it, kids trying to see just exactly where they fit in. Nannette Manoire is your typical, thinks she's better than everyone else, rich, spoiled little brat with her small circle of friends. Angela Anaconda's family is a little less fortunate than Nannette Manoire's family but they have each other.
  • Warning: Spoilers
I never quite understood the deranged children who enjoyed this series. When I was a kid, and Angela Anaconda would air in between actual cartoon series (sometimes giving intro's and outro's to things for some reason), I always found her bizarre art style, disturbing stuck facial expressions, and horrendously shrill voice both horrifying and annoying as that one troll with bad grammar who knows exactly how to infuriate you.

That's what Angela Anaconda is, ultimately, as a character. She's a troll. A disturbed sociopath who, from all indications of this show, will likely have a bell tower, a rifle, and 25-to-life some time in her future.

Please, people aren't kidding when they say this show is insane, and will drive you to the same. For your sake, and for the sake of prosperity yet to come, don't watch. Burn every copy. RUN FOR YOUR LIIIIIIVES!!!
  • This... is a unique style, but it is lazy and traumatizingly ugly at the same time. This series has too much stereotypes around, and the plot is Angela tries to assault the school bully, Nanette Manoir, who is a fake French girl. This is among the most creepy, stereotypical, lazy, ugly and disappointing series I've ever seen in my life. It makes Breadwinners and Brickleberry look like Mona Lisa in comparison. It's just too abysmal that I cannot give proper words anymore.
  • I wish I wasn't reminded of this TV show. As a child I always found the animation style horrifying and the characters intensely unlikable. They look like dead grey corpses! Not to mention it intruded on The Digimon Movie (2000).
  • Angela Anaconda is one of those niche-appeal shows that its' detractors have a violent dislike for. I happen to be one of the ones that enjoy this zany little morsel of weirdness. Banal and corny? Well, maybe, but no more so than most kiddy cartoon fare. I think that the appeal is that Angela and her friends (and enemies) are very realistically kid-like, despite their very weird-looking appearances.
  • Warning: Spoilers
From what I hear, a lot of people like this show. And it bewilders me, because this show fails in so many levels.

Why I hate this show: 1. The theme song is the worst I've heard in my LIFE! I bet you £1,000,000 that the songwriters said "Let's just take every dumb thing we've said and meld it into one song, shall we?".

    2. Pug-fugly and horrifying character designs.

    3. The animation is slow rather than stabilized.

    4. Many, or if not, all of Angela's fantasies are extremely disturbing. They are mainly focused on Nanette Manoir, her rival. Here are some examples:
    • Angela wanting to eat Nanette Manoir. Cannibalism? Seriously?
    • Nanette falling into a cold ocean, cryogenically freezing her.
    • Mr. and Mrs. Brinks PREPARING TO KISS WHILE NEAR-NUDE? WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?

    5. Nanette is a French stereotype, which can be considered offensive to some viewers. Not only that, but there are Italian, Catholic, and even Asian stereotypes that can be found in this show.

    6. This little demon interrupted the start of the Digimon movie. I can't imagine how many were traumatized and how many were booing.

    7. The dog is named King despite being female.

    8. Unlikable characters.

    9. The voice acting is painful.

    Redeeming qualities:

    1. It thankfully looks much better than the KaBlam! shorts.

    2. The show was cancelled after three seasons.

Overall, I definitely don't recommend this one. Skip this one at all costs.

This piece of garbage gets a 2/10.

If them hate and let them hate. I loved this show because it was unique and you didn't have to take it seriously.

This show has quirky characters. what's not to love about them?

Sure the animation is different, but who cares. It should be different so that it can stand on its own uniqueness.

I consider this show a classic of the 90's early 00's.

Angela Anaconda is annoying and unsual that is effectively good. It's remember me what south park's creators did because of the weird movements of its characters. I had to watch it over and over and learn to love it. I believe the most uncomfortable thing is the often angela's desires of revenge against Nanette. I remember being that that way fantasying about annoying people... Maybe Angela is growing a borderline disorder inside her. But with that kind of antagonist and that teacher I don't blame her.
  • I know this was made in Canada, but this is the show that single-handedly DESTROYED the reputation of Fox Kids during its premiere in 1999. It's bad enough that this show originated from KaBlam!, but GOOD GOD!!! WHAT KIND OF SHOW IS THIS??!! I have seen this thing as a kid, and I was HORRIFIED by it!!!

At least Courage the Cowardly Dog had more to it than just being scary, but THIS IS THE EQUIVALENT OF CN REAL!!!!

The characters are annoying, the animation is horrible, the voice acting is god awful, and just about EVERYTHING is this show scars me!!!

THIS IS NOT FOX KIDS!!!! No wonder Disney bought the rights to Fox Kids. Did Disney buy Fox Kids just to get rid of Angela Anaconda??!! If that was true, I thank Disney for buying Fox Kids.

Angela Anaconda is another cartoon about the normal kid with unique, bizarre friends. She hangs out with the nerd, the athlete and the fattest girl in school. However, most, if not all, episodes focus more on her rivalry with Nanette Manoir. And sometime during each episode, Angela has fantasies concerning her ideal solution to her problems. Often, those sadistic fantasies focus on her sadistic punishment of Nanette. If Angela was able to successfully act out those fantasies, her brutality would easily kill her arch-rival within the opening stages of her plans. I do realize that this is a cartoon and is not meant to be taken very seriously, but Angela's fantasies are simply too annoyingly vengeful for me to enjoy the show.

I didn't get it when I was a kid and I sure as heck don't now after recently seeing it again. This was one of the shorts that was on Nick's Kablam and it's a mystery how it could've gotten its own series. Should have been Sniz & Fondue. Angela Anaconda is UGLY. The animation style is not by any means creative, you could probably create something better looking on MS Paint. Cant really get into the characters when their voices are so bad and they're just frightening to look at. Eyesore.
  • This used to make me physically sick as a child. My sisters would watch it and i would rush to the bathroom to violently through chunks. I strongly warn you to avoid this show unless you want to loose your lunch. Not only is the purpose of the show questionable but it isn't even in the slightest bit entertaining. I recommend you watch Dora the explorer or wizards of waverly place if you are looking for something to watch or in fact anything else that you can find because for me this is a vile display of what Americas children entertainment industry has become. Goodbye and if you do choose to watch this then please don't risk eating beforehand.

Don't listen to the bad reviews - this show is great! If you've got a quirky sense of humor, you'll appreciate its weirdness.
  • This show is truly revolting. The voices are annoying, as are the characters, the animation sucks and it's not even close to Terry Gilliam's animation style. The animation is so bad that it makes South Parks's look advanced. Plus i have seen stereotypes of catholics, italians, and nerdy people on different occasions. Shameful how some shows make fun of other religions, nationalities, and the way people are. Is this a good message to send to viewers? Especially little kids? Shame on ABC Family for keeping this crap on for so long with such things on it! When it's all put together, this message tells you that this show sucks!!!
  • Often the greatest gifts to people with intellect and depth, are those gifts that alienate the simple and shallow who immediately repel and dismiss anything original and challenging that requires a little thought.

Art is not complete until there are eyes there to meet it and the right eyes in the case of Angela Anaconda was a niche audience of children who had the depth to appreciate something a little darker with a different approach, alienating the sort of people who describes anything they do not understand as 'weird', which, let us face it, is frankly most things.

Seeing so many people describe the show with words like 'creepy' and that they 'hated' it, is a delightful sight, because then the show feels more personal to those who got it and it is proof that the show was original and unique enough to require more than those who dislike it have to offer.

With any piece of art, you get out of it what you put in and the fact that so many are unable to appreciate Angela Anaconda, shows that they themselves do not have much to bring to the table, whether it be through laziness or lack of intellect.

So in summary, the common dislike of Angela Anaconda is proof of just how good it is.
  • I was so happy to see that Nickelodeon brought back this show. It's delightful and quite original. Angela is often overlooked by her teacher and family or blamed for doing things she didn't do, which I think lots of kids can relate to. She always makes the best of things, though, and gets into lots of entertaining situations with her friends. Cute without being TOO cute, I recommend you give it a try.

The animation and visuals are...unique. I've never seen a tv show with characters who consist of stock images. A lot of people think angela is a psychopath but I don't think so. She just really, really hates Nanette. It was even a little funny at times. Overall, it's not my favorite show, but I like it
  • It's a typical school story series, but, what sets it apart is its bizarrely humorous scripts and, especially, its visuals. Borrowing heavily from the Terry Gilliam animation style, no one moves in 3 dimensions! It's like a world inhabited by humanoid crabs. Photos digitally (I'm guessing.) manipulated make up the cast. So, it's entirely possible that everyone we see is the actual voice being used. Regardless, this blend of the real with the sublime sets the style of the series, and that visual execution is what is most superb about it.

In short, in today's dreg of children's series, Angela is welcomingly refreshing. Adults will probably like it more. (I'm 26.)
  • Until very recently, I was convinced that my memories of this title were the product of a disturbed child's fevered dreams. My dreams. Whenever I tried to describe Angela Anaconda to others, they all had the same look of confusion and fear. It wasn't long before I learned to keep these memories to myself, burying the grasping temptation to disprove or vindicate my suspicions of having gone mad. Ironically, it was repressing these intrusive thoughts and the resultant hospitalization that finally led me here, to the absolution I have found today.

A few days ago, I overheard some people discussing unreasonable depictions of vengeful violence in a cut-out cartoon show for children, while in the common lunch area. Immediately, I decided to book some supervised computer time at the facility in which I am currently housed. The attending nurse typed the overheard name into this site and here I am, after 14 years of misdiagnosed psychosis.

I have lost time, which can not be recovered, but you don't have to. Save yourself. Don't press play. 8/10.

I cannot stand this show! The storylines are ok and the names are cute but that Angela's voice is nerve racking! I hope that poor person doesn't really talk like that in real life. I would rather watch an opera and I hate opera! It isn't one of the better shows that are out there.
  • This is the best show that i ever watched with the animation style being glorified like the character Angela Anaconda has so many character developement that makes her a true protagonist in the city of Tapwater Springs and her arch nemesis Nanette Manior being an annoying villain to deal with, she really needs to destroy her and become the best. Overall this is a glorious masterpiece like every frame and character is so good and there is no problem with this show at all. Best canadian cartoon ever or even the best western animated show of ALL TIME. I have huge respects to Angela Anaconda. Best show of all time.
  • As I said in the one line summary, I hate this... "thing" (calling it a cartoon would be an insult to all the cartoonist world wide), the stiff as cardboard animation may have worked for Monty Python & South Park but for Angela Anaconda, don't hold your breath, I got the urge to head down the there "animation studio" & show them how it's done.

I feel sorry the kids & adults who got there black & white mug shots on this program, they'll probably get picked on more then the stereotypes on this show.
  • This show is awesome! It's one of my favourite cartoons. I've read a lot of comments about this show that say either it's just OK or it totally crap, but it isn't. It's awesome. More people should watch it! I love Angela and her friends.
