Those ba$tard$ at FOX canceled this show cause it wasn't an immediate #1 show. This show had so much talent and promise. PLUS two of the best looking women ever to grace the media. Both Jen Connelly and Jen Garth. I KNOW that those execs were kicking themselves when they could've had a show with THE current academy award winning actress on prime time. That just doesn't happen. Too bad FOX just didn't have any balls, and rather would pay millions per episode for the lowest common denominator and same old money makers instead of backing talent and style that you only see on premium cable TV. How unfortunate. The $treet was the only series I've ever video taped to make sure that I saw it and I'm really glad that I saved those.

Ard001412 July 2021It's an absolute shame that this show was cancelled. I was lucky enough to find it on YouTube and I thought "sure, I'll try it"...I ended up bingeing all 11 episodes in 24 hours-it was that good!
This show did a good job of following the work lives and personal lives of each character. Showing the difficulties of dating in the workplace while also showing the connection people can have from working in the same area-understanding the needs and commitments of a job. It also did well explaining how the stock market works-I myself have absolutely zero understanding of it, but I was still able to follow along well and figure out what was going on with each situation. They also didn't try and stick on one topic too long like most dramas do. Each situation occurred for an appropriate amount of time; nothing dragged on longer than it should. The episodes each ended well but still had you wanting to know what would happen next.
They also did well with special guest stars and the actors on the show: Jennifer Connelly, Christian Campbell, Jennie Garth, Bradley Cooper, Isabel Gillies, Molly Ringwald, David Thornton...the list goes on! This show was cut too soon. It really could have been something worth watching. I'm glad I was able to find it on YouTube and see this show! Watch it. Even though there's only 11 viewable episodes, it's worth the watch. -
tarek-el-yafi11 September 2006I watch a lot of TV and I love shows like Sopranos and Entourage but this show was probably the best show I have ever seen. The sets and the dialog were spot on. The characters were all deep and well defined. Most were likable and there was the right blend of realism and fiction to hold interest. Anyone who does not like this show is insane.
At the same time this was aired in England I was watching Titans and Popular and The Street was far superior to both but both lasted longer I just don't get it. If you find a place to watch or buy this series do it asap.
You will love this show!!!! -
siu165 May 2011OK guys I am probably quite late to the show but I have just finished watching the 11 episodes of the show and have to say the execs at FOX could not have been more cruel to its viewers (The show aired in 2000 and I didn't even know it existed until now!). Not only did they cancel one of the best shows to have aired on TV but they cancelled it when the show was entering a a big change! I would have loved to found out whether Chris McConnell's hedge fund worked out or whether he got duped by Gillian. It really would have been competitive to the likes of say Ally Mcbeal. Would probably have been more popular due to more and more people having an interest in stocks & the City! I believe it was just a matter of timing, i the show was to air now it would be a smash hit! It was entertaining but also educational. I realized watching the show how each city professional works with each other to close a deal. Oh and Nina Garbiras is Amazing! Any how I have set up a Facebook page to show support for the show (Bring back 'The $treet) as I do believe it was crime to cancel such a great show! festersam-896-5095331 January 2011Well Fox had placed this underrated show against the West Wing while it was in it's prime and then pulled the plug after 6 episodes without even trying a time slot change. I saw the aired 7 episodes back in 2000 and the show stuck with me. Great characters and great dialogue kept me interested as well and the "scenery" of the 2 Jen's and Bridgette Wilson. Sotry lines were realistic and compelling. I just found the show on YouTube and was able to catch the last 5 unaired episodes...blurry, but very watchable. Makes me upset all over again that this is all there is...damn, what a great show. If you get a chance take the 11 episode run on YouTube...even 10 years old it's still VERY watchable and enjoyable!

It was exactly like all previous Daren Starr shows, only it took place in The traders world. It made me think about Central Park West, Ally McBeal, Sex and the City, Titans. Or more recently Las Vegas, North Shore, and Suits even. With the difference that it centered around male characters. The pilot episode was filled with that time usual sarcasm and offbeat humor. They even got that popular TV actress (aka Jennie Garth) to play the bad girl that would shake things up, and give the ratings the bump it needed. But like most shows that tried that, after the success it brought to Melrose Place. It backfired, and the show got cancelled after only eleven episodes aired... And I get why it was, trashy soaps were not « hip » anymore. But in the meantime, I'm sure it had potential to be one of those shows that got better after a certain amount of episodes. Not sure if they could or should, revive it...

atinoco24 October 2002This show was just awesome, it was the only show I watched on TV for some time.....Interesting characters, Great Cast, Interesting plot, Gorgeous Women, and also full of information on the Stock Market. This show has actually introduced me to some of the basic concepts related to the NYSE, was a great advantage on some college courses involving the Stock Market. I was very disappointed when it got cancelled, it was my FAVORITE show at that time, I don't understand why it got cancelled, but, I see lame and crappy shows running for at least a year while some good ones, like The Street, get cancelled. I would love to see this show back on TV, it just ROCKED.

Some corperate big wig thinks its more financially beneficial to produce a series and then remove it from distribution because the return on the project wasnt as big as the initial investment. We are living in censorship for finincial times. Truly disgusting. Im watching a film on the way back machine and this commercial comes up. Im a huge fan of the main actors and actresses but for some reason cannot find the place to stream. Sad to think that a completed project could be scrapped like this, taking it away from the public eye after a completed series has finished.
Sure its not the best series on television but GODDAMN IT give me a choice to watch!!! -
snowshoe14416 October 2008I don't enjoy criticizing things (I always feel like a whiner) and, based on what I had read about it beforehand, I was optimistic about it, but this show was not very good. I recently sought out this series in an effort to familiarize myself with the work of Sean Maher who plays the street-wise ex-Navy trader Chris McConnell. His performance is, as I said, the reason I found The $treet and is the main reason I stuck with it through all eleven episodes. If it weren't for my desire to see him act, I would have stopped after probably the third episode.
Pros: Decent premise; I could see the potential that it had. Decent acting... sometimes. I think the actors were limited by the poor writing, but did well with what they were given. I have seen most of the cast perform well in other projects. This show did give us a look into a world that I think most of us are pretty unfamiliar with and that is interesting...
Cons: The writing. At best, the writing was interesting enough or funny enough that it was acceptable over all. At worst it was absurd. Too often the writing team fell back on overused, predictable, or contrived plot devices. On top of plot predictability all of the characters seemed to have the morality of alley cats in heat. I'm certainly not a prude, but the amount of sex-based activity was way over the top and much of it felt totally unnecessary to the storyline. That is, it was unnecessary to the storyline unless it WAS the storyline. I assume they were trying to draw viewers, but give me a break!
I could start getting nit-picky and throw down some further criticisms, but I don't think it's worth the effort. The $treet was okaaaay, it had SOME potential, but was flawed enough that I'm not surprised it only made it to episode eleven. Don't waste your time unless you have ulterior motives like I did. -

They should have changed its time slot because it was up against The West Wing. It was FOX's loss because this could have been the next big thing.

jellyneckr27 September 2001From watching the new shows this season, it makes me think how many great shows premiered last year, but when off the air. This is one of them. I guess it was a little too racy for network television. If it had been on HBO, it would have probably lasted a long time. The show was smart, funny, well acted, and best of all, it was original. Almost all shows today are just rip-offs of some other shows. This wasn't and that is why I loved it so much.

I have watch some episodes here in Sweden and I really think that this show is one of the best I've seen. It's definitely the best if you ignore the shows on HBO. I can't decide if I'm sad or angry that there will be no more episodes at all. It's really a shame.
I would like to know what's in those execs minds when they do things like this. How does there brains work. I would say that there heads doesn't work at all.

Now that Fox has cancelled The Street let me offer some regrets that the network did not attempt to change its time slot. Going up against a show like The West Wing almost doomed it to failure and that is a shame.
The Street was a microcosm of a youthful Wall St. firm at mach speed. As has been popularized today the dialogue happened fast and furious...way faster than in real life. But that is what kept it vibrant. I am at least a generation or two older than the people depicted in the show yet I really related to the energy the show produced. The give and take between characters was very good on both the personal side as well as the professional side. The depictment of this Wall St. firm as both cut throat with good friendships is what life is...especially in the frenetic pace of the business of finance.
I really liked that in character development no one person was all good or all bad. Each inter-twined along the delicate fence of ideals and truth. I really hope that Darren Star Productions finds a new home for this show. I am anxious to continue watching the evolution of the characters and stories. -

I do not watch any television shows other than Sportscenter, Leno and Conan O'Brien, and I think this may be added to that list. It is fast-paced, and intelligent, and for once it doesn't revolve around un-feasible situations. A clever show, and hopefully it will succeed on Fox, because they need more than just the Simpsons and the X-Files. A 10 out of 10.

When you Americans deciding to cancel it i was ver annoyed. I mean why cancel i well acted, exciting, buzzing show with some awesome women in it ? Well anyways i hope that whoever cancels it comes to their senses an puts it back on to make the world a better place. You know it makes sense!

There was a British TV series from the late 1980s called "Capital City" which also dealt with the wheelings and dealings of financial types in the London equivalent of Wall Street, and which if memory serves was better - at least I managed to get through more than two episodes of it.
Unlike the Fox Network, Sky One did at least show all the produced episodes before removing it, though I'm damned if I know why - the deadly combination of impenetrable money-making jargon could have been forgiven if creators Jeff Rake and Darren Star (who, what with this, "Grosse Pointe" and "Central Park West" on his CV, should call himself Darren Blackhole... and yes, I do know he was also responsible for "Sex and the City," "Melrose Place" and "Beverly Hills 90210") had remembered to include even ONE character who wasn't a complete slug. My condolences to Jennifer Connelly for getting mixed up in this, and to W.G. Snuffy Walden for contributing another fine theme to a hopeless show.
Plus, any show where a character proclaims the superiority of Xena over Buffy DESERVES to be cancelled.
(Incidentally, am I the only one who thinks the music for the Darren Star Productions logo sounds like the opening notes of the theme from "The Simpsons" lowered an octave or two?) -

Come on, a show for Wall street? It would be interesting if it wasn't actually a show for the main character's penis, for Christ sake! I pity the Americans. If sex is the only thing you think and act of, you should all commit suicide when you get older and stop doing it. In short - don't watch this pile of crap - it isn't actually for the $street, it is for the peni$$$ This dull show doesn't deserve the 10th row I am pressed to write for the comment.

The writers (creators, or whatever) of 'Sex In the City' have brought us another cute little TV show about one thing...S-E-X.
Just out of curiosity, I tuned into the first episode and changed channels within 5 minutes. I have grown tired of the repeat sex plots on TV these days. Basically, whoever created this show is trying to bring SITC to Fox. I was not impressed.
A show about bimbos trying to gain power on Wallstreet by "opening themselves up" to Wallstreet men may be sound cool to some people, but the idea is getting very worn out. I have no respect for characters as shallow and as the ones I witnessed. I am saddened that stars like Tom Everett Scott, Jennifer Connelly, and Molly Ringwald are present on this show. Talk about a true waste of talent. -
Amidala-63 November 2000I tuned into this show with high hopes. It promised on it's commercials to contain things never seen on television before. Unfortuneately, everything new and daring from the pilot was shown on the TV comercials. Everything else was just pretentious and dull. The main plot focuses around Tom Everett Scott, who is usually an endearing and enjoyable actor but here comes off boring, and his stock broker pals as they work the daily stock market grind. Mostly, though, creator Darrin Star chooses to focus on their menial personal lives spiced up by trading equity for sex from strippers and fighting the drunken advances of horny old classmates. The only redeemable thing I can find about this show are the performances of Jennifer Connely and Adam Goldberg. Unfortunately for Goldberg, he destoys the Woody Allen-ish, sweetly innocent portrayal by the end of the episode. So, if you get a chance to read this, avoid this show. It $uck$.

I completely agree with Rio-7. The show is strictly about sex and I am sick and tired of seeing that on TV. Whenever people want to make money with TV or whatever, they talk sexsexsexsex. Please, there are a few more things to life than just sex. Take as an example the show named "DC". I found it somewhat similar to "The $treet", but fortunately it isn't (or wasn't?) all about sex. There is (or was?) a bit of everything in it. So, basically, "The $treet" DOES $uck.

But most of all it maintains my intrest... I don't usually like sitcoms, but this one grabs my intrest; It acutually has a plot just like a movie. Hey, I've only seen the first episode, but this show is hot... If I had stock on it I would be rich.
