Minor Vivid Video vehicle for Devon -cute but chintzy
With the virtual demise of mighty Vivid Video, this forgotten title gains a bit of nostalgia value but is as slight as they come. I enjoy watching these little features, largely because they have the decency to get off the pot in about 70 minutes (compared to today's typical 3-hour gonzo exercises in boredom).
Bobby Vitale is terrible in the role of a demonic game show host, hardly the Chuck Barris wannabe the part called for, just an incompetent porn actor trying out an annoying accent. With lovely Devon as his assistant, we're treated to an imitation TV show in which contestants who are in near-death circumstances (in hospitals somewhere) are given a devil's bargain, competing to have some fantasy sex before they expire.
Of course, Devon and Vitale also join in on the antics when not dealing fateful hands of 21, hence the video's title. The condom-laden sex scenes are mechanical, but the supporting femme cast is diverting. Oddest element here is that all five actresses on screen used a single- name moniker during their careers - I don't recall seeing a major porn feature where that was the case, even accidentally.
Lowest billing of the fab five goes to Raylene, evidence that Vivid as a talent picker was out to lunch before the turn of this century, given that she later outpaced by a country mile her co-stars, perhaps Devon excepted.
Production is threadbare, with the crummiest of sets, though the actual blackjack hands being dealt are well-photographed. Some wag makes endless dumb jokes for the end credits, least funny of which is a series of phony names, each credited as an assistant to the name above it. Typical: set decorator is "Ugotta B. Kidding", which turns out to be true considering the lousy sets.
