The wanted criminal Riddick arrives on a planet called Helion Prime, and finds himself up against an invading empire called the Necromongers, an army that plans to convert or kill all humans in the universe.
According to David Twohy in an interview, the reason why Riddick went into seclusion for 5 years on the U.V. system Planet 6 because Riddick decided to isolate himself because bad things happen when he is around people.

Water boils at 212F so at 700F all the water in the canteens would have been vapor once Riddick opened them. It would not help him stay cool enough to go in the sun. Even then Kira didn't get soaked in water, yet she didn't get burned.
The closing credits are displayed over extreme close-ups of elaborate Necromonger sculpture. Eventually the sculpture is revealed to be a statue of Riddick sitting in the Lord Marshall's throne.
