Mashle: Magic and Muscles is a parody that was done right. You don’t even have to go past the first 10 minutes of the anime to know that it is a Harry Potter rip-off. But its adorable (dumb) protagonist makes it stand out from any other parody or comedy series.
Honestly, how many series have you watched that have visibly taken so many elements from a famous franchise and still managed to become famous? From the muscle-headed Mash to his equally silly friends, the anime does not miss a single beat to make you laugh.
So, without further ado, let’s dive into some of the major similarities between Mashle and Harry Potter that stare you in the face.

It is absolutely wild to think that Robin Williams got passed over for the part of Remus Lupin in the Harry Potter series because he wasn’t British! Now, while David Thewlis undoubtedly did justice to the character, one can’t help but wonder what kind of magic Williams could have brought to the role. Because one can never accept Williams to be a wrong choice for anything! The Harry Potter crew really missed out on something special with that one silly rule.
Robin Williams in Jumanji (1995) Robin Williams Was Denied the Role of Remus Lupin Because He Wasn’t British
Robin Williams, known for his extensive Hollywood career and a string of iconic roles, is often regarded as one of the few actors universally loved in the industry. Many would assume that Williams could land any role he desires.
However, that wasn’t the case when he wanted to enter the Harry Potter series.

Documentary fans have a lot to be excited about this month on HBO and Max. April begins with the premiere of The Synanon Fix, a docuseries that follows the rise and fall of the cult-like drug rehabilitation program Synanon. The documentary Brandy Hellville and the Cult of Fast Fashion takes a deep-dive into the controversial “one size fits most” clothing brand Brandy Mellville and the impact of fast fashion on the planet.
An American Bombing: The Road to April 19th looks at the surge of political violence and anti-government sentiment that led to the 1995 Oklahoma City Bombing, and the effects still felt nearly 30 years later. HBO is also returning with a second part to their popular docuseries The Jinx, with filmmakers continuing their investigation of Robert Durst.
But if documentaries aren’t your thing, there’s still plenty of popular films hitting Max in April, like Scott Pilgrim vs. The World,...

Actor Sir Michael Gambon, known for his portrayal of Dumbledore in the beloved Harry Potter film series, has bequeathed his entire fortune to his wife of 61 years, Anne Gambon.
The 82-year-old stage and screen icon, who died in September last year after a battle with pneumonia, left no inheritance to his long-term girlfriend, Philipa Hart.
Hart, a set designer, first crossed paths with Gambon when he filmed Longitude in 2000. The couple shares two teenage children, Tom, 17, and William, 15. For two decades, Gambon divided his time between his wife and Hart, but his will makes no provision for her.
The three-page document, drafted in 2016, named Gambon’s wife and their 60-year-old son, Fergus, as executors. In the event of his wife’s passing before him, the entirety of his £1,465,882 ($1.7 million) fortune was designated to be inherited by Fergus.
The will stipulated that his children with Hart would each receive £10,000 and a trophy.

When J.K. Rowling’s vision of Harry Potter was realized on the big screen in 2001, a very passionate fan was helming the film. Chris Columbus, who already made a mark in Hollywood with Home Alone, impressed Rowling and Warner Bros. and secured the directing gig. However, the passion quickly turned into dread after the filming became exhaustive for the director who couldn’t see his young children due to the tight schedules.

Gary Oldman is one of the most talented active veteran actors in Hollywood right now. He’s graced us with countless unforgettable performances — think of his currently ongoing Apple TV+ show Slow Horses or his role of Dreyfus in Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes and Dracula in Bram Stoker’s Dracula. His most iconic role, however, and arguably, is that of Sirius Black in the Harry Potter franchise. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, the installment where Sirius Black was first introduced, was a massive tonal shift for the franchise as the...

The first book in the Harry Potter series, "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" ("Sorcerer's Stone" here in the States) was first published in June of 1997. It was written by author J.K. Rowling, long before she had been driven mad by an infuriating streak of unabashed transphobia that she insists on adhering to. Thanks to years of bigoted screaming, Rowling's legacy has been wholly tainted, and it's hard to read her lighthearted children's fantasy books without thinking of her poisonous worldview. If one checks out the Harry Potter books from the library, however, one can still enjoy the adventures and complex Wizarding World of Harry Potter without giving Rowling another dime.
Before her mind snapped open in public, however, the Harry Potter books — and their subsequent movie adaptations — were widely beloved. The title character was an impoverished 11-year-old who was forced to live in a closet with his abusive aunt and uncle.

Sirius Black is one of the fan-favorite characters of the Harry Potter franchise, despite actually having little screen time compared to some other prominent characters. The love for Black comes from ‘Harry Potter’ fans who read the books – and those who really cherish and appreciate the performance that Gary Oldman had given us as Sirius.
However, Gary Oldman himself isn’t a big fan of his performance as Sirius Black. He debuted in the role in 2004’s ‘Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban’ and absolutely nailed it in the eyes of fans. In his own opinion, however, he could’ve done a lot better. Speaking on the ‘Happy Sad Confused’ podcast recently, Oldman called his performance in the franchise ‘mediocre’:

Gary Oldman had a confession to make when he appeared on Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast: He is not a fan of his performances as Sirius Black in the Harry Potter franchise. Sitting down with the media journalist during the last days of 2023, Oldman was in good spirits when he admitted, “I think my work is mediocre in [those movies].”
Oldman is referring specifically to when he appeared as the Wizarding World’s most notorious escaped convict, and surprise godfather of Harry Potter, in the films Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004), Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005), and Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007).

Everyone’s their own worst critic. People can take you down as many pegs as they please, but it’s nothing compared to when you’re alone, chastising yourself for mistakes made or actions you regret. Hollywood star Gary Oldman has shared why he’ll always be grateful for the ‘Harry Potter’ films. The ‘Slow Horses’ star, who is father to sons Alfie, Gulliver, and Charlie and stepson William, explained that he was cast as Harry Potter’s godfather Sirius Black after becoming a single father.
Oldman divorced his ex-wife, Donya Fiorentino, in 2001. “At 42 years old, I woke up divorced and I had custody of these boys and so that, in itself, was…” he said on ‘The Drew Barrymore Show’, reports Entertainment Weekly.

We’re nearing the end of the murderer’s row (complimentary) part of the year. There’s been the back-to-school extravaganza of September, spookiness of October, glorious chow-time of Thanksgiving, and finally the gift-giving joy of December as the clean-up hitter. Christmas and holiday gift-shopping can be difficult, as you want to please all the people you care about — whether it be friends, family, acquaintances, or, heck, even enemies — while also being creative about it.
And, true believers, accomplishing such a feat is no easy task. Only the mightiest can pull it off. If you’re one of those that salivate over the prestigious moniker of Gifting King or Queen, then some help will certainly go a long way.

One of the more pleasant surprises of "Avengers: Endgame" was the early reveal that this was going to be a time travel story. The MCU had never really done time travel prior to this point, and for obvious reasons they would never really do it again. Messing with time can cause massive plot holes, after all, so it's best to do it sparingly. But as for how "Endgame" handled it? It's hard to complain. It gave fans an opportunity to go back through some of the series' greatest hits, allowing us to look back at how much our characters — particularly Captain America and Iron Man — had grown over the years. The storytelling choice was, by basically any measurement, a massive success.

Before the “Harry Potter” films, there were J.K. Rowling’s books. The first book, “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone,” was published in 1997. Nearly 26 years later, eleven films, one reunion special and a Universal experience dedicated to the magical Wizarding World have grown out of Rowling’s literary staple in childhood fiction.

Following the news that acclaimed actor Michael Gambon died today at the age of 82, fans in Orlando gave him a tribute worthy of the man who played Professor Dumbledore in six of the eight “Harry Potter” films.
The fans gathered outside the Hogwarts Castle replica found in “Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter–Hogsmeade” at Universal’s Islands of Adventure in Orlando, where they raised their wands during a moment of silence, which you can see in the video at the top of the page.
The tribute was a recreation of a scene from the end of the movie version of “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince,” where the students and faculty of Hogwarts lift their magic wands and light them up after Dumbledore is killed.

When actor Michael Gambon passed away on September 28, he was immediately remembered by colleagues and fans around the world for his work portraying Albus Dumbledore in the “Harry Potter” films — but he’s not the only one.
Gambon famously took over the part of Dumbledore between “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets” and “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban,” when original actor Richard Harris passed away and was eulogized for this most recent and beloved performance. Recasting such a major role in a film or TV franchise is fairly unprecedented; it’s rare that a studio would choose this over any other option unless there was no choice. Gambon’s take on the role was never meant to imitate Harris, but rather to find his own take on the character, and in the six films that followed, he did just that.

Michael Gambon, a protégé of Laurence Olivier and giant of the British stage who portrayed Hogwarts headmaster Albus Dumbledore, apparently with little effort, in the final six Harry Potter movies, has died. He was 82.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban was a transitional film for the franchise. The young cast, including Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint, were getting older, and the kid’s movie style of the first two movies would have to be abandoned to reflect an aging cast and fanbase. It helped that J.K Rowling’s book, which introduced fan favorite Sirius Black (to be played by Gary Oldman), was notably darker than the previous volumes.
To that end, Chris Columbus stepped aside as director, and Warner Bros brought in Alfonso Cuarón. While he’s nearly a household name now, at the time, Cuaron was only known for the well-regarded family film A Little Princess and Y tu mamá también. In the end, he proved to be an inspired choice, with many lauding the film as one of the franchise’s best instalments and a high watermark for the movies to follow.

For a movie that fits firmly in the dystopian sci-fi genre, Alfonso Cuarón's 2006 film "Children of Men" makes for one of the most truly terrifying films ever. In a world where infertility has been the law of the land for eighteen years and resources have dwindled, humanity has turned on itself. It's like the grimmest of '70s science fiction films, only made by a master filmmaker at the peak of his powers. While it might have taken a tragedy for him to become committed to the film, his passion is evident in every frame.

Rowling has done to her own legacy, the Harry Potter films gave us some wonderful actors like Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter), Emma Watson (Hermione Granger), and Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley). It also showcased actors at the top of their field, like the late Alan Rickman (Severus Snape) and Michael Gambon (Albus Dumbledore). They might seem like unlikely people to take on a series of films about kids with magic (they do tell you never to work with animals or children), yet they are beloved for their performances.
As it turns out, Rickman and Gambon had a bit of fun with their roles and the kids they were acting with. They played a major prank on Daniel Radcliffe during a big scene where all the students are sleeping in sleeping bags in the Great Hall, according to a 2014 Reddit Ama that Radcliffe did to promote his film "Horns.

Just two years ago, it seemed like the summer blockbuster might be a thing of the past. After Covid kept cinemas closed across the United States for the majority of 2020, the box office reopened in 2021 on uncertain footing, with many high profile flops and a soft performance for the movies overall. That summer seemed like the harbinger of the end for the seasonal release strategy that “Jaws” perfected all the way back in 1975, wherein the hottest months hosts the biggest titles — marketed aggressively to theatergoers. It seemed like those days were behind us, and the streaming age had finally overtaken the days when movies could be events. So thank goodness for “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer.”
Things aren’t entirely rosy at cinemas again (and Hollywood writ large is a mess), but things are improving at the box office with those July 21 releases helping to massively goose theatrical business, picking up where...

Sequin- and self-actualization sprinkled congratulations are in order for Greta Gerwig, Margot Robbie and all the dolls and guys as the phenomenon that is Barbie has now crossed $1B global in just its third weekend. We said yesterday it was on the cusp, and now here’s the pudding.
Through Sunday, the international box office estimate is an astounding $572.1M for $1.031B worldwide. Gerwig also has become the first woman to surpass the billion-dollar benchmark as a solo director. Double clap!
Said Warner Bros’ Jeff Goldstein, President of Domestic Distribution, and Andrew Cripps, President of International Distribution, “As distribution chiefs, we’re not often rendered speechless by a film’s performance, but Barbillion has blown even our most optimistic predictions out of the water. This is a watershed moment for Barbie, and no one but Greta Gerwig could have brought this cross-generational icon and her world to life in such a funny,...

The Italian Job, 6.55pm, Film4, Tuesday, August 1
If Mission Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One whet your appetite for Italian car chases, then you can fill your boots with this heist classic. And, like the Tom Cruise franchise, this 1969 charmer isn’t scared to have a bit of a laugh as well as delivering thrills. Michael “I only told you to blow the bloody doors off” Caine is on top form as Charlie Croker, who is planning a gold robbery in Turin. There’s a masterful Mini Cooper car chase through the narrow Italian streets - including a flight of stairs, which Mission Impossible recently emulated - and don't forget the wonderful Noel Coward, as a jailed Mr Big, in what would be his final role. Forget the bullion, Caine and co are likely to steal your heart.
