"Sehnsucht nach Sandin" is a German television film from 2002, so this one is almost 20 years old now already and it runs for 1.5 hours, slightly under, as they usually do. The director is Karin Hercher and the writer is Astrid Meyer-Gossler. Well, what can I say about this duo. I find it shocking that they have worked for decades before this film already, since the 1970s in fact, and still this is the level of quality they come with after all these years. Shockingly bad. Admittedly, it can be said that AMG mostly worked as an actress and she also acts in this film, so I cannot judge if she is as bad in her main profession, but then again nobody forced her to go into writing and looking at hos this one turned out, she absolutely should not have done it. Good news is that both of them are retired now, so we don't have to deal As for the cast, they aren't any better. Kahrmann is a familiar face, but he always seems a bit on the simple side for me. Still it must be said in his favor that next to somebody like Alexandra Kamp, who could not act one good scene if her life depended on it, he almost looks like Al Pacino. Already the cringeworthy unrealistic moments how they met when she steps out of the plane and not much later meet again (of course! must be fate for the two lovebirds, right?) were unbearable to take, especially with the gesture she makes for the second meeting. And her face expression at the same time. No words for. The whole thing was a joke. Just take the conflict at the end (that is in every one of these garbage German television films) that feels so forced with how her dad buys the place and Kahrmann's character is all mad of course and returns to his former love. Who very willingly takes him back because he is such a desirable chap of course and she must be grateful to have him. Especially after how she is clearly not worthy of him looking at all we saw earlier between the two. Basically every single scene, not just the talk about touching very early on or her surprise a little later. Speaking of this surprise, of course it is all evil when she makes such a present to him and he does not agree 100%, but if he makes a present to her, they want us to be mad at her because she does not wholeheartedly accept. The evil woman must give up her clients this way or at least movie away from them. And the shoe scene.. Ridiculous stuff. So pathetic and stereotypical. Besides, Katja Woywood, even if she is not a good actress either, is about ten times as attractive as Kamp, but that is another story and maybe also all down to subjective taste. Anyway, the one thing they always forget in these films is that the previous love interest once had a strong connection with the man as well, but here you feel as if they actually never really were together with the way how they treat each other here and there.

Away from the story at the center, or no one more thing i have to mention is the slow motion sequence when the two lovebirds run towards each other. After their conflict. They are united again, so let's drag this moment a little longer for the really simple audience. But let's not drag anything else. Who cares if they just had a massive argument. Let's have them marry less than a minute later. This is so unreal. Such an insult in the audience's faces. Disgusting stuff. Everybody should be ashamed and looking at this movie here, I genuinely hope that it is by far the worst film from everybody's body of work although sadly I am not sure this is the case. Especially for Kamp. Now no more generalizations anymore, but let me assure you if I gave 1 out of 10 ratings, then I would very much do so here. Lucky for them, but the already really low rating this has on imdb is by far not low enough. The reason is that not only the story at the center of the film (also how Kahrmann's character hurts his foot and Kamp's plays doctor not much later) is utter garbage, but also the side stories. The best example there is really the one that involves the fathers. How the woman's father was saved by the man's father back during the days of war. Oh well, another massive coincidence. That is was exactly him. Not sure what to say there. I personally think it is an insult honestly to everybody who really lost somebody during the war back then how they include this subject here in the most rushed-in manner and honestly want everybody in the audience to believe it, take it seriously. Simply disgusting. I would not blame the actors, except for the fact that they agreed to appear in here and be a part of this project. The one who is really to blame is the woman in charge of the screenplay. I guess we can say it is a woman here. the gender deserves also to be mentioned when there is failure all along. Not just when they came up with something great. So these were just a handful references and elaborations why this film is an utter travesty. Yes, it is that bad. I could come up with at least another dozen references where they really messed up (like the horribly over-the-top soundtrack or how the film indeed dares to take itself seriously despite the complete absence of talent), but I'll leave it at that, so I forget about it hopefully soon. Pretty shocking that despite the age and quality, it is still shown on television nowadays almost two decades later, maybe actually more depending on when you read this review. The title is a joke too by the way. Even after the film, you will wonder what Sandin is. It feels very random. I guess they just liked the alliteration and that is why they picked this one over the Templin inclusion. Anyway, obviously a good title would not have saved the terrible quality either. This is a film you want to skip at any cost. A definite contender for worst film of 2002, not just from Germany, but from a global perspective. Even the North German castle that was used for the shootings did not feel half as interesting and beautiful as it is in reality. Highly not recommended. It is usually not a good sign if there is a German television film that includes a very generic (yet "romantic") opening and then is followed by a specific location. These are almost always trash. This one here is certainly not an exception.
