The film started in the early 90s around 1991-1992 when it was under the working title Mera Kartvaya. The film faced production delays, the film was a victim of long term shooting. It was supposed to release in 1994 but was further delayed and didn't see a release till the year 1996. The main reason of further delay was Sanjay's jail period which lasted till 1997. The film release finished in 1996 under the title Vijeta.
Sanjay Dutt's voice was dubbed by Chetan Shashital.
A remake of Super Hit Hong Kong movie Righting Wrongs (1986) or also known as Above the law. Sanjay Dutt is Yuen Biou and Raveena Tandons character is Cynthia Rothrock
Vijeta was the last released film of Sanjay Dutt and Raveena Tandon as a pair.
The classy, good looking and extremely well-matched pair, a rarity in Indian cinema - the audience is used to watching a 50-something romancing a 20-something, worked in four films together of which Aatish (1994) was a huge hit, while Zamane Se Kya Darna (1994) was an average earner.
The pair had signed many other films as well. While Mukul Anand's Dus was never completed, films like Anokhi Ada, JO Dutta's Choodiyan, Yeh Jo Mohabbat Hai, Yeh Hai Jalwa and Alert 24x7 were all shelved for various reasons.
In KGF Chapter 2 Dutt and Raveena reportedly do not have scenes together.
The film was earlier titled Mera Kartavya. Due to Sanjays time in jail, the producers changed the title to be more positive. Vijeyta was chosen to show more support for Sanjay.
