  • I was able to pull some strings and get a copy of the failed pilot episode for this show that never got off the ground. It details NYPD Detective Alex Franco in present day on a case of the murder of Jasmin Kroger (it's apparent from the get go that this is a Steven Bochco, as the deceased wife gets a trademark ass-shot). Harlan Kroger, the dead woman's estranged husband is the main suspect, and he arranges a 'hit and run accident', leaving Alex brain-dead in a coma. His wife decides to pull the plug on good IL' Alex, but when he continues to breath on his own, he's put into an experimental cryogenic test. With his wife thinking he'll be back in ten years. But since the show is called NYPD 2069 and not NYPD 2014, Frank wakes up a wee bit late to find his wife dead, Harlen Kruger still alive at 99 years of age, and his own son a drooling vegetable, due to a viral plague that hit in 2039. He petitions to become a cop again, partnered with his grandson. But the job is different and the job is easier, due to America being a police state, since the Muslims joined up with Skinheads (??!!!??) and destroyed the civilization. Alex must readjust to his new life under an assumed surname of Bowlander. As is to be expected, the show is pretty open-ended, with thanks to events in the pilot leading Frank to feel more alone then ever. As for the show itself, I felt the gadgets of the future came off as being too gimmicky and the story pretty clichéd, but for an un-aired pilot, it could've been worse I guess.
