Back in the U.S.
Brilliant from the first note to the last.
Filmed during a mammoth tour of arenas across the United States, the Driving USA Tour, and featuring Paul McCartney's best band since the Beatles - newcomers lead guitarist Rusty Anderson, guitarist/bassist Brian Ray and ultra-enthusiastic drummer Abe Laboriel Jr alongside 90's holdover Paul 'Wix' Wickens on keyboards - Back in the U. S. is chock full of every big Beatles and Wings hit you could imagine ever wanting to hear, as well as more than a few deep cuts from McCartney's very extensive catalogue & fitting tributes to both John Lennon and George Harrison. There are indictable some new songs, too, but as often is the case, the less said about these, the better. (How many classic rock artists with new songs and albums have we applied that observation to?)
The band, whilst breathing new life into cherished, timeless classics, is clearly having the time of it's life on stage and off, as is evident in the film and the special features, and McCartney sounds great. Watching the reactions of members of the audience ranging from kids to the elderly to each song was fantastic. Talk about music connecting the generations. The only awkward thing about watching this sensational concert film now is seeing the frequent shots of Heather Mills, a relationship that, for McCartney, ended poorly.
