There isn’t much you have to do when you are taking on board the task of remaking a blockbuster. Sure you adapt it for the new audience at hand but ultimately there’s a reason you chose the blockbuster to remake, because it was pretty damn good. So why then do you claim to make a remake of a blockbuster but decide to ruthlessly suck out the very soul of the original script?
Amit Sharma takes a perfectly fine family entertainer and turns it on its head. He sidelines the two leads and instead chooses to flaunt his love for the villain instead. Yes, what Tevar has promised you was all a grand lie. The film in fact is not about a young kabbadi player (Arjun Kapoor) and a damsel in distress (Sonakshi Sinha) on the run from a ruthless goon (Manoj Bajpai) but in fact in Sharma’s...

2014 certainly was a year of highs for Arjun Kapoor with three releases (2 States, Gunday, and Finding Fanny) and each performance garnering great reviews, especially for his work in the super hit 2 States. The young actor is starting off 2015 with a bang as well with the release of Tevar. Co-starring Sonakshi Sinha and Manoj Bajpayee, the romantic action thriller, directed by Amit Sharma, hits the big screen on January 9th.
The film tells the story of Pintu Shukla, a local Kabaddi champion from Agra who is a regular boy next-door type of guy but when he finds himself in the middle of a lethal fight for love he never backs down. There is a local Bahubali from Mathura, Gajender Singh, who has a penchant for sharp knives and instant death. Then of course there is a pretty girl, Radhika Mishra, who hails from the same city and just wants to escape from Gajender’s domain.

Tevar is the fourth remake of 2003 Telugu blockbuster Okkadu originally starring Mahesh Babu, Bhumika Chawla and Prakash Raj. Arjun Kapoor (2 States), Sonakshi Sinah (Lootera) and Manoj Bajpai (Rajneeti) take on the respective pivotal roles for the Hindi remake under the banner of Sanjay Kapoor Entertainment Pvt Ltd.
It features music by Sajid-Wajid (Wanted, Dabangg) and lyrics by Kausar Munir with the vocal talents of Shafqat Amanat Ali (‘Manchala’ – Hasse Toh Phasse), Shruti Hasan (‘Alvida’ – D-Day), Ritu Pathak (‘Jalebi Bai’ – Double Dhamaal) amongst others.
Superman introduces our larger than life protagonist with much fan fare that is not far from typical. It is a decent enough number but suffers from two drawbacks. Kausar Munir’s lyrics are rife with the right amount youthful arrogance but the line, ‘jo leve panga, kar doon maa behn’, is arguably in bad taste if not down right disrespectful to women. When Bollywood actresses come together for a film, they often spark rumours of catfights. But looks like the contemporary actresses are in a much secured place and they have been lending a helping hand to their co-actresses. Shruti Haasan, who is a popular actress down South and in Bollywood, has lend her voice for a romantic song in the upcoming film Tevar starring Sonakshi Sinha.
In the recent trend of many actresses turning singers for their films (Shraddha Kapoor, Alia Bhatt), Shruti Haasan, however, is not a part of the cast in the film but has only sung a song. The music directed Sajid-Wajid believe that Shruti has a fresh voice which suited the mood of the song and hence had decided to rope in the actress to sing. On the other hand, we hear that Sonakshi Sinha had no qualms over this decision and was rather happy about Shruti being a part of it.

With the recent trend of adding the tadka of rap in Bollywood music albums, Sanjay Kapoor too plans to make the music of his upcoming production Tevar a little peppy by roping in the Pakistani singer Imran Khan. Imran Khan has given some of the top chartbusters like 'Amplifier' and 'Bewafa' which also has an element of Punjabi lyrics. Though he has been bombarded with many film offers in the past, Sanjay Kapoor will be the first producer Imran will be collaborating with. For the film Tevar, we hear that Imran will be composing and singing the song and the video of the same will also feature the film's leads Arjun Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha. According to Sanjay, this song was important because it is supposedly the Usp of the film. He also decided to rope in Imran because he believes that the singer has a larger fan base majorly...

It’s a rare father-son coming together, but they had to be matter-of-fact about it. Akshay Akkikeni, the director of the much awaited 3D suspense thriller Pizza, is the son of celebrated film editor, Sreekar Prasad. And while the father has actually cut the son’s directorial debut, he made sure that there was no special treatment.
Sreekar, who has won the Best Editor National Award a whopping eight times, has edited Bollywood hits like Dil Chahta Hai, Guru, Kaminey, 7 Khoon Maaf, Shaitan, and more recently, Cocktail and Ek Thi Dayaan. Down south he’s cut and joined blockbusters like Okkadu and Thupakki. The veteran editor had a bittersweet experience editing his son’s debut effort Pizza. Says a member of the Pizza crew: “Sreekar Sir wanted to be very matter of fact in making sure that the edit was very tight and the suspense thriller lived every bit up to its reputation.
