Martin Scorsese has many projects developing at the same time, sometimes for years and years (see his currently filming "Silence," which he had been shepherding and trying to put together forever), but one that has fans most excited is "The Irishman." Why? Because it'll not only mark a reunion between Scorsese and Robert De Niro, but also between De Niro and Al Pacino. That alone would have any cinephile excited, and the material sounds terrific too. While it still looks to be on the distant horizon, Pacino thinks that one day that movie will get made. “I would imagine [we’ll still make it], because the script is so good. But it’s been a long time that it’s been on the burner, so to speak,” he told Vanity Fair. Read More: Robert De Niro Says He And Martin Scorsese Haven't Forgotten 'The Irishman' Details on the project have been coming in slow drips.

While rumors swirled that a Space Jam sequel with LeBron James was in development, they turned out to be greatly exaggerated. The NBA player will be heading to the big screen in a comedy called Ballers with Kevin Hart, but it turns out the story of his high school days before becoming a championship player consistently and controversially compared to Michael Jordan is in the works. THR has word that an untitled project is developing at Universal that James would produce along with Dallas Buyers Club producer Rachel Winter and and her husband Terence Winter, creator of "Boardwalk Empire." Isn't it too soon? Frank E. Flowers (Metro Manilla, Haven) is behind the pitch which has garnered some interest. The story takes some cues from the 2008 documentary More Than a Game, which followed James and four of his teammates in high school, navigating the competitive world of basketball at such a young age,...

Universal is close to a deal on a movie pitch dramatizing the 2009 documentary More Than A Game – the story of the early days of NBA superstar, LeBron James – with the player and his manager, Maverick Carter, on board as producers.
The documentary was written and directed by Kristopher Belman, with Brad Hogan as co-writer, and was well-received at the time of its release. It centres on LeBron James and four of his teammates – Dru Joyce III, Romeo Travis, Sian Cotton and Willie McGee – progressing though Ohio High School basketball, under Coach Dru Joyce II. Tracking those early careers, the film then depicts the eventual rise of James to international stardom.
Hollywood loves a good ‘work-hard-and-succeed’ inspirational tale, and they don’t come more inspirational than LeBron James. Born to a hard-working, teenage, single mother, but supported by leading figures in the local sports scene, he bonded with his teammates and...

Paula Patton fizzes and flounces through "Baggage Claim," a romantic comedy about a flight attendant who gives herself "30 days and 30 thousand miles" to find some man to "put a ring on it" before her sister's wedding.
No gesture is too big, no half-hearted punchline too weak to sell with some wide-eyed bit of mugging from the star of "Jumping the Broom." An actress who showed blessed restraint in films such as "Precious" practically gives herself a hernia trying to freshen this exercise in "Haven't I seen this before?"
Patton plays Montana, doomed to make poor choices in men, so upset when her younger sister (Lauren London) announces her engagement that she resolves to have a wed-able date for that sister's nuptials.
Her mother taught her "You're not a lady until you're married," and her mother's played by Jenifer Lewis, so that's to be expected.
So Montana's obligatory gay flight...

When heading to a film festival, you go in knowing that you can’t see anything, and knowing that in all likelihood, there’ll be at least one film you’ll regret not making room for. All of the good things I heard about Metro Manila at Sundance London this April gave me that feeling.
For an idea of why, check out Stefan’s five-star review here.
The film brought home the Audience Award in the Dramatic Category for director/co-writer Sean Ellis, the Oscar nominee behind Cashback (both the original short and the feature-length adaptation).
And with its UK release date on the horizon in a matter of weeks, we’ve got a new trailer to share.
Seeking a better life, Oscar Ramirez and his family decide to move from the poverty stricken rice fields of the Northern Philippine mountain ranges, and journey towards the capital mega city of Metro Manila.

Michael Westen (Jeffrey Donovan) has been the good soldier, helping those in need while trying to find out who burned him as a spy. After getting so close to the truth so many times, Michael began risking those he cared about to get any morsel or favor to help him get to the end. Once he got there, he wasn’t prepared for the most surreptitious villain he’s faced so far. Anson Fullerton (Jere Burns) has been up there all along, pulling the strings and orchestrating the madness in Michael’s life and then used Michael and his crew in Season 5 with Fiona’s (Gabrielle Anwar) life as leverage because he could frame her for the killing of two security guards at the British Consulate. The first two episodes have shown that Burn Notice is noticeably different this season–noticeably awesome that is!

"Her name begins with M. She'll possibly get a bit more famous, but I don't think she's going to be a big star."
Risario Khameen, 11, West Wickham
"Haven't got a clue. [On being told she was in Alice in Wonderland] Alice in Wonderland? I saw that. Are you sure it's her?" Paula Martin, 38, Sydenham
"With a face like that, I think I'd remember her if I'd seen her in anything. I'm sure I don't know her." Scott Burnett, 32, Glasgow
"Was she in Alice in Wonderland? She was good in that. I don't know her name though." Rachel Anderson, 25, Glasgow
"She's not very attractive."
Harley Constable, 12, Croydon
"She looks quite unhealthy, like she's doing the heroin chic thing. Or she's a drained out Gwyneth Paltrow.

Chicago – Why does every successful horror film need a sequel? If they’re big enough, they usually come out theatrically, but there’s a whole sub-genre of straight-to-video follow-ups to horror hits, the latest being the truly bad “The Descent: Part 2,” a film that merely serves to enhance the reputation of the original by comparison.
DVD Rating: 1.0/5.0
The best thing about “The Descent: Part 2” is the set-up. It’s all downhill from there. Haven’t you ever wondered about the aftermath of a horror movie? The camera usually fades to black when the villain is killed or the hero is safe, but there’s clearly going to be a lot of questions and clean-up. What happens next is a common genre question and “The Descent: Part 2” cleverly picks up immediately after the end of Neil Marshall’s beloved film.

Photo: Screen Actors Guild And we're back again less than a week after the Golden Globes brought us confirmation Avatar is not only a box-office juggernaut, but also a potential awards show king. However, tonight won't be Avatar's night as it is not among the nominees at the 2010 Screen Actors Guild Awards, which means any number of other films can see their stock rise as the actors weigh in with their opinion when it comes to the best of the year. I will be here all night long starting around 4:30 Pm Pst with up-to-the-minute commentary and winners just like I was for the Golden Globes (read that here) and will do for the Oscars in March. But tonight is about the SAGs so before we get to the commentary there are a few things to preview.
First off, on Wednesday I asked you to predict who would win...

Haven't heard of The Cross? Don't worry, we're going to change that right now. The Cross is the newest sci-fi film from Andrew Niccol, the director behind Gattaca, S1m0ne, and Lord of War. He hasn't directed anything since 2005 but is already back shooting this as we speak. The cast in this includes Orlando Bloom, Vincent Cassel, John Goodman, and Olga Kurylenko. Our friends at Quiet Earth got their hands on a small batch of concept art created by Jean-Vincent Puzos and it looks gorgeous, or rather it looks like he's getting back to his Gattaca roots, which is good news considering that's one of my all-time favorite sci-fi films. Click above to see more concept art. I don't exactly know what we're seeing, besides some landscapes and set pieces, but it looks great so far. In terms of the story, here's what The Cross is about: "Mylar (Bloom) and...

tMF Talkback: Anatomy of a Good Actor - The 'case' between Orlando Bloom, Ben Barnes and Johnny Depp
What constitute good acting? What makes a good actor? Are there certain steps one must follow in order to become an actor or is it a gift or a natural talent and requires no formal training? These are the questions we'll try to answer - and before we begin, let me just say, I have been patiently waiting for an 'opportunity' like this, and I would like to thank one tMF viewer for the vigorous and insightful comments on 'good acting' and the case between Ben Barnes, Orlando Bloom and Johnny Depp.

Backgrounder: There is an upcoming movie based on Oscar Wilde's book entitled Dorian Gray starring Ben Barnes. In order to relate this particular article elsewhere in the blogosphere, I refer to a cinematical post about the new movie, and in reaction to cinematical's comment that Ben Barnes might be the next Orlando Bloom.

I'm pleased to report that things are back to status quo. Last week's top stories were relatively free of "Twilight" news but we're back on track this week thanks to the barrage of images and news that emerged. We'll get to that in a minute though. First let's wrap up the weekly box office poll.
There was a big voter turnout this week, though nearly all of your votes went to one of the two horror releases: "Halloween II" and "The Final Destination." Rob Zombie's flick edged out "Destination," with 60% of the vote compared to the other's 38%. The remaining 2% is spread across the rest of the choices, with no clear leader among them. Now that that's out of the way, let's see what your clicks favored...
