The random escapades of Stan Smith, a conservative CIA agent dealing with family life and keeping America safe, all in the most absurd way possible.
The series was partially inspired by All in the Family (1971).
I'll tell you something, though. You've just eaten all the potato salad Francine made for the Deacon's Wake! Ha ha ha!
Roger the Alien: And you didn't stop me? How could you do that?
Klaus: Yeah, still German...
Early episodes had Roger gradually learn to use disguises to go out into the world; but in later seasons we see that he had actually been using disguises for decades before he met the Smiths.
As of the 2008-2009 season, the intro sequence has been completely redone with more modern animation. There are a few minor changes to what happens during the sequence. For instance, Haley puts a peace sign post-it on Stan which Francine subsequently removes, and Klaus kicks Stan his car keys. The old "different newspaper" gag is removed, and instead each intro features Roger in the car with Stan, wearing a different outfit in each episode.
