S.W.A.T. could be a perfect example of how a network can mishandle a reliable performer.
Based on its ratings, S.W.A.T. should have been a sure shot for CBS to renew.
In Live + 7 results, S.W.A.T. Season 6 averaged 6.8 million viewers and a 0.7 rating in the demo.
This made the series the No.3 show in the demo on the network and No. 10 among total viewers.
Despite that, the ax fell on S.W.A.T. last May, with storylines left hanging, the worst possible fate for a veteran series.
Star Shemar Moore blasted the decision because he and the other cast members saw those rating numbers and felt confident about a renewal.
The cancellation stood for two days. Then CBS caved in the face of a deluge of outrage from the series' fans, and S.W.A.T. was renewed for a 13-episode final, seventh season, giving it a chance for closure.
Then came the lengthy actors' and writers' strikes,...

Exclusive: Rob Kirkland will return as Police Captain Walter in Season 3 of the Paramount+ Original series Mayor of Kingstown, currently in production.
He is the second actor returning to the series following Deadline’s announcement revealing Natasha Marc will reprise the role of Cherry. Kirkland’s last appearance in Mayor of Kingstown was in the 10th episode of Season 1, however, he played the character in Season 5 of Yellowstone.
Co-created by Oscar nominee Taylor Sheridan and Hugh Dillon, Mayor of Kingstown follows the McLusky family, power brokers in Kingstown, Michigan, where the business of incarceration is the only thriving industry. Tackling themes of systemic racism, corruption and inequality, the series provides a stark look at their attempt to bring order and justice to a town that has neither.
In Season 3, a series of explosions rock Kingstown and its citizens, as a new face of the Russian mob sets up shop in the city,...

Everybody loves a good procedural, right?
The drama, the cases, the suspense — there's something for everyone, and every week brings something new.
That doesn't mean the genre doesn't have a host of problems that newcomers to the scene should be aware of.
If new shows like Tracker want to succeed in competition with procedurals that have been on the air for years, they'll need to set themselves apart.
But how can Tracker's writers avoid some of the common complaints that get lobbed at procedural TV shows?
Invest in Character Development
One of the biggest issues fans have with procedural dramas is the lack of character development. Every episode brings something new to the show, leaving little time for the show's stars to shine.
Tracker has introduced several dynamic characters already, each of whom shows great potential. If the writers allow enough time for it, there's a ton of opportunity for...

Sydney Sweeney’s career looked a bit different before she ended up starring in projects like Euphoria. So much so that she hated the idea of looking back at her previous works.
Why Sydney Sweeney has a negative opinion on her old movies Sydney Sweeney | Axelle/Bauer-Griffin/FilmMagic
Sweeney would be the first to say that she isn’t a fan of her work past a certain point. She considered the Netflix comedy Everything Sucks to be her first true role. But before that, she already had a presence in the entertainment industry. She had a few acting credits to her name in lesser known projects that she would rather forget about.
“Anything before Everything Sucks! And Sharp Objects. I pretend that was a whole different person—I have blocked out so much of that time, of my high school life,” Sweeney told Cosmopolitan not too long ago.

The news of CBS canceling S.W.A.T. was hard enough on the fans of the hit show and its stars. Now, the news is getting worse. It is possible one of the stars will be getting the ax before the alleged canceled show’s seventh and final season ends.
The Alleged Cancellation Of S.W.A.T.
Sadly, S.W.A.T. was one of the first television shows CBS decided to remove from its impressive lineup. Fans of the megahit show are not happy with the decision. They are hopeful it will not be canceled.
Shemar Moore is also hopeful. He is also not sure that the decision of CBS is their final decision. This could be true if fans of Shemar Moore and S.W.A.T. rally behind him and fight to keep the show going.

Tony and Ziva's NCIS spinoff will not air on CBS, but will instead stream on Paramount+ due to its serialized nature. Being on Paramount+ allows for a deeper exploration of narrative and darker storylines compared to traditional broadcasts. The NCIS spinoff will likely focus on a single case for an entire season, providing more room for subplots and character development.
Tony Dinozzo and Ziva David's NCIS spinoff won't be airing on CBS and a Paramount+ executive explains why. On the heels of Michael Weatherly's NCIS season 21 return for Ducky Mallard's tribute, it was eventually announced that he will return full-time to the franchise. However, instead of reclaiming his old post in Washington DC, Tony and Ziva will spearhead a new NCIS expansion series that will take place in Europe. Nicknamed NCIS: Europe, the show will not join the rest of the universe on CBS, however, despite also existing in the same reality.

Morgan's return in Criminal Minds: Evolution season 2 could spur a romance between Garcia and Alvez, resolving their unresolved feelings. Garcia's skepticism towards Alvez may be resolved with the involvement of Morgan. He is the only one who can likely convince her to take a chance on their relationship. With JJ's marriage ending in season 2, Garcia and Alvez's romance could fill the void it leaves regarding the romance department in Criminal Minds: Evolution season 2.
Shemar Moore's return as Derek Morgan in Criminal Minds: Evolution season 2 can pave the way for Penelope Garcia and Luke Alvez to finally be together. Not long after CBS wrapped up the police procedural's 15-year stint on the network, Paramount+ realized that there are still so many exciting stories to be told with the Behavioral Analysis Unit. There was some confusion about their planned return, but in the end, a grittier and darker Criminal Minds was born.

Ever since we learned that Kenny Johnson had been demoted to a recurring player for the seventh and final season of S.W.A.T., we’ve had concerns about how Dominique Luca’s story would end.
After spending five episodes on the bench, Johnson just made his first appearance in the final season, but could that be the end of his time on the show?
The stunning episode concluded with Luca witnessing a robbery in progress.
Once he got his adopted daughter Kelly to safety, he found himself in a potentially fatal situation when he got shot three times.
CBS aired a teaser for the next installment at the end of the episode, and it sure looks like we’re about to say goodbye to Luca for good.
We see Hondo (Shemar Moore) and several other characters at the hospital as they learn that he may not make it out of surgery alive.

It’s been a challenging year for fans of the Shemar Moore-fronted S.W.A.T.
The series was canceled in May, leaving fans hanging over a cliff and worried there would be no resolution.
Thanks to the passionate fans, CBS reversed its decision and picked up a 13-episode S.W.A.T. Season 7 to bring the show to a close.
We’re now weeks into the final season, and it continues to pull in strong ratings, leading to some big questions about why the series was canceled in the first place.
S.W.A.T. has consistently been a reliable performer, but there has been an upswing in shows ending their runs after seven seasons of late.
Station 19, The Good Doctor, and Young Sheldon are all ending this season after their seventh seasons, leaving a great void on the broadcast networks.

Criminal Minds is a police procedural that’s full of upsetting episodes. In its 15 seasons (plus the revival), the show has had some truly messed-up moments, considering that the Bau specializes in understanding the mind of psychologically disturbed unsubs, some more sadistic than others. One of the most hopeful and heartbreaking episodes, “Mosley Lane”, starred Evan Peters as that episode’s focal character, along with his mother Sarah Hillridge (Ann Cusack) — and arguably, the two of them are the episode’s protagonists. “Mosley Lane” is a stand-out episode of Criminal Minds, and that is in part due to Peters’ performance as Charlie.

Law & Order might have been recently surpassed by its spin-off Law & Order: Special Victims Unit in terms of popularity, but it remains the most iconic police procedural ever made. Law & Order has enjoyed a remarkably long run, having been on the air for 22 seasons and counting, but not every season can be a winner.
Law & Order is the perfect show for any crime fan who needs a long series to sink their teeth into. As 22 seasons can be somewhat intimidating for new fans or those looking for a rewatch, audiences should look to Law & Order's strongest installments.

Netflix debuted the sixth season of Love Is Blind on Valentine’s Day, and the show captured a lot of viewers’ hearts — or at least their eyes.
The dating show easily led Nielsen’s original streaming series rankings for Feb. 12-18, drawing 907 million minutes of viewing time in the United States. It also finished third overall, behind library shows Bluey (1.17 billion minutes on Disney+) and Young Sheldon (1 billion on Netflix and Max). Those two swapped spots from the previous week.

Apple TV+’s World War II drama Masters of the Air hit the rankings for the first time with 243 million minutes, with three fourths of that total coming from the episode that premiered Feb. 16.
Oppenheimer also had its streaming premiere on Peacock that week, leading the movies top 10 with 612 million minutes of watch time.

Criminal Minds spent over 15 years on CBS before concluding its final season in 2020. When news broke that Blue Bloods will wrap up with Season 14 in November, there were many unhappy fans.
The series remains a huge success story for CBS, so it seemed destined to continue as long as the cast wanted to do it.
What has become clear in recent months is that the cast very much wants the show to continue.
The fact that people still want to stick with the show after so long shows how much fun they’re having with it.
Donnie Wahlberg, who plays Danny Reagan on the Friday night drama, has been trying to get the show saved in recent months.
In a recent appearance on Sirius Xm’s Andy Cohen Live, he suggested that there is still some hope of getting more episodes.

Sydney Sweeney is the woman of the moment. Headlines do not seem to be getting enough of her just like her fans, whose over-enthusiasm is not the actress’ favorite thing at times. While Sweeney is best known for her character in Euphoria, she has recently taken the internet by storm with her movies Anyone but You and Madame Web. The latter of these is not the best project on her resume, but it definitely attracted a significant amount of attention.
Sydney Sweeney recently proved that she is not only a bold actress but also has a good sense of humor. She does not mind poking fun at herself or her recent appearance in Madame Web. She also put her Saturday Night Live monologue to good use by addressing some of the wild rumors about her on the internet.

Derek and Penelope's friendship in Criminal Minds is close, loving, and platonic, with no romantic undertones. Shemar Moore and Kristen Vangsness became real friends off-screen, enhancing their on-screen chemistry. The entire Criminal Minds cast has a strong real-life friendship, reflected in their on-screen chemistry and longevity of the show.
Derek Morgan (Shemar Moore) and Penelope Garcia (Kirsten Vangsness) in Criminal Minds are two of the closest friends on the Bau, and the stars have clear chemistry — so much so that many viewers wonder if Moore and Vangsness friends in real life. Criminal Minds followed the FBI's Behavioural Analysis Unit, and the ensemble cast is part of what has made the show so beloved. Derek is one of the longest-tenured members of the series. He is gruff the muscle of the Bau, but has a platonic soft spot for Penelope Garcia.

Criminal Minds' "Lucky" episode shocked viewers with a disturbing plot involving a cannibal serial killer named Floyd "Lucky" Ferell. Jamie Kennedy's portrayal of Lucky left a lasting impression on the series, showcasing his dark and chilling acting skills. The reveal of Tracy Lambert's fate as Lucky's victim remains one of the most haunting moments in Criminal Minds history.
Criminal Minds' "Lucky" saw a woman named Tracy Lambert being kidnapped by a serial killer, with her fate being one of the show's most disturbing reveals. Criminal Minds found its group of elite FBI agents dealing with serial killers and horrifying murders just about every week. The series debuted in 2005 and revolved around the Bau having to profile and track down killers. Despite the subject matter, Criminal Minds became a hit both for its intensity and likable cast. Netflix’s Griselda spent a second week as the top streaming title in the United States, according to Nielsen. It was one of three shows to snag more than a billion minutes of watch time for the week of Jan. 29-Feb. 4.
Mr. and Mrs. Smith also had a solid start for Amazon’s Prime Video, coming in just below the billion-minute mark. HBO’s True Detective also joined the rankings as it reached the midpoint of its fourth season.
Griselda, starring Sofia Vergara as the notorious drug lord, grabbed 1.73 billion minutes of viewing for the week, up about 9 percent from the previous seven days. The other two billion-minute shows were Young Sheldon (1.31 billion minutes on Netflix and Max) and Bluey (1.15 billion on Disney+).

Lionsgate Television just eliminated more than half of its development deals, IndieWire has confirmed. The reduction comes after Lionsgate’s $375 million acquisition of eOne from Hasbro. The eOne purchase, which on the television side brought over “Yellowjackets” and other series, mixed with general industry contraction in the post-Peak TV era, rationalized the sweeping cuts.
Lionsgate executives conducted a two-months-long review of the Lionsgate Television and eOne talent rosters, which together included nearly 60 overall and first-look deals. The number is now below 30; no names have been reported on either the “stay” or “go” side of the ledger.
Deadline first reported the news. A Lionsgate rep declined comment on this story.
It is pretty common for a company to slim down ahead of acquisition — just ask Paramount — but this round was pretty drastic. It is important to remember that during last year’s writers strikes, pretty much all overall deals were put on pause.

Prentiss will have a personal storyline in Criminal Minds: Evolution season 2, focusing on the death of Deputy Director Bailey. Showrunner Erica Messer teases Prentiss's struggles with Bailey's death, as the new season picks up only two weeks later. The new season could explore Prentiss's relationships outside of the Bau, showing a different side to her character.
Criminal Minds: Evolution season 2 will give Emily Prentiss a personal storyline. Paget Brewster may not be an original cast member of the police procedural, but she is part of the most enduring team that the Bau has had in its 16 seasons on the air. Prentiss has taken the role as the squad leader, replacing Aaron Hotchner when Thomas Gibson abruptly left Criminal Minds. As she continues to spearhead her team, she will also have her own issues to deal with when Criminal Minds: Evolution returns for season 2.

Created by Robert Munic, Power Book IV: Force is the third TV spin-off in the Power universe. Set after the events depicted in the acclaimed Starz original crime drama, the story concerns Tommy Egan, the best friend and business partner of series one protagonist, James St. Patrick, aka Ghost (Omari Hardwick). As James attempts to overcome his drug conviction and distance himself from his past, he is forced to relocate from New York to Chicago and attempts to establish himself in a new city.

We're sad to report the passing of Canadian actor Kenneth Mitchell at the too-young age of 49. His death was confirmed in an X/Twitter post (made via the account previously belonging to Mitchell himself) which eulogized him. Mitchell is survived by his family, including his parents, his siblings, and his wife, fellow actor Susan Pratt, and their children Lilah and Kallum (a GoFundMe has been set up for Mitchell's family by friends).
Mitchell built up a wide TV resume during the 2000s and 2010s. He didn't have many starring roles, granted, but he was in the main cast of the cult classic post-apocalyptic series "Jericho." Mitchell kept racking up guest roles on every major procedural series under the sun: "NCIS," "Grey's Anatomy," "Criminal Minds," "Castle" -- the list goes on.
In recent years, Mitchell became a name that science-fiction fans will recognize. He had a small role in "Captain Marvel,...

Emily Prentiss' fake death story was a way to pursue Doyle and take him down for good, keeping her team safe. Her deception impacted her unit, especially Reid, who struggled to adjust but eventually reconciled with her. Paget Brewster decided to leave Criminal Minds on her own volition after CBS released her and A.J. Cook from their contracts.
The Emily Prentiss fake death revelation in Criminal Minds shocked her entire team. Criminal Minds could often be intensely dark and disturbing, but its likable cast of characters prevented it from becoming too overbearing. One of the longest-serving characters on Criminal Minds was Emily Prentiss (Paget Brewster). Prentiss appeared from seasons two through six on Criminal Minds, before apparently dying while apprehending terrorist Ian Doyle. Matthew Gray Gubler's directing on Criminal Minds showcased his talent both in front of and behind the camera. Gubler's episodes played on fear and phobias, making them some of the best-directed and chilling of the series. While Gubler hasn't returned for the Criminal Minds reboot, fans still hold out hope for his return on screen and as a director.
There are several Criminal Minds episodes directed by Matthew Gray Gubler, and each shows just how integral he was to the series. Gubler's Spencer Reid, the brilliant yet conflicted member of the Bau team, was a fan favorite. He was analytical, figuring out clues where none seemed possible, but also had a tortured past and a fear that his future could see him losing that great mind that led him to the team. Following the release of ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ Dceu was officially concluded and Gunn’s and Safran’s Dcu officially took over as the primary cinematic universe for DC characters. Now we do know that plenty of projects are in development as a part of Chapter 1: Gods & Monsters, and one of the most notable ones is a live-action show focusing on Green Lanterns aptly titled ‘Lanterns.’
Geoff Johns originally had a script for a Green Lantern Corps film set in the Dceu, scheduled for release by the end of 2019. However, plans shifted when it was announced in April 2020 that Johns would produce a Green Lantern Corps series for HBO Max, suggesting a change in direction. Efforts have been made to distance the series from the CW’s Arrowverse, possibly to appeal to those disinterested in the Arrowverse’s lower-budget productions.

The cop action/drama market is certainly saturated, making it much trickier for new series to push boundaries and break through into the hearts of the mainstream. That is why it is so impressive that Will Trent, a procedural drama based on Karin Slaughter's series of novels, took the world by storm in January 2023, earning plenty of praise from both critics and fans alike. With many likening the series to shows like Criminal Minds and Blue Bloods, much of the enormous praise was directed to the man at the center of the action-packed madness, Ramon Rodriguez. With such high acclaim landing at the feet of the actor for his portrayal of the titular Special Agent, it was simply a matter of time before the series was renewed for a second outing. Now over a year since its explosive arrival on our screens, the charming, witty action is ready to return in all its glory.

Criminal Minds experienced significant cast turnover throughout its 15-season run, resulting in the departure and return of main characters. Paget Brewster's character, Emily Prentiss, had a complex and dramatic journey on the show, including death, revival, leaving, returning, and eventually taking over the team. Brewster's return to Criminal Minds was prompted by fan outrage and contractual obligations, leading to the resurrection of Prentiss and her promotion within the Bau.
Criminal Minds suffered from notorious cast turnover, beginning in Season 2 with the departure of the primary protagonist Jason Gideon, brought to life by Mandy Patinkin, and the subsequent loss of Lola Glaudini's Elle Greenaway. Despite a huge amount of fan support and a 15-season network run, main characters came and went at an alarming rate on the CBS procedural. However, one of the most interesting cases of character transition is Paget Brewster's Emily Prentiss.

The week of Jan. 15-21 was a big one for streaming.
Seven titles — three original series, three acquired shows and one movie — each drew more than 1 billion minutes of viewing for the week, the most that have ever hit that mark in the four-year history of Nielsen’s streaming charts. The previous high was six, which has happened four times (including two weeks earlier).
Kids’ favorite Bluey was the overall No. 1, with just over 1.5 billion minutes on Disney+. Reacher (1.23 billion) reclaimed the top spot among original shows from the prior week‘s leader, Fool Me Once, which fell by more than 50 percent to 1.06 billion minutes of watch time. Netflix’s heist movie Lift grew by 19 percent week-to-week, scoring 1.04 billion minutes.

At the time, many were surprised by Brewster’s exit from Criminal Minds. She was brought on board the team during the show’s second season as agent Emily Prentiss. Brewster seemed poised to become as much of a constant presence on the show as Shemar Moore and some of the other co-stars. But she, along with her Criminal Minds co-star A.J. Cook, were let go from the show.
Speaking with Assignment X, Brewster confided that those behind the series simply wanted to shake up the show. They felt reducing Brewster’s role would’ve added some spontaneity, which Brewster felt was a mistake.
