KollywoodVetrimaaran’s critically acclaimed film Visaranai (2015) was probably the first Tamil film to look at custodial violence in unflinching detail, a change from narratives that routinely glorified it.In Vetrimaaran’s hard-hitting film Viduthalai Part 1, released on March 31, a senior police officer calmly asks for cutting pliers. He then proceeds to pull out the nails of the Adivasi man in his custody, asking him for information that the latter says he doesn’t have. When he doesn’t get what he wants, the officer asks for the man’s daughter-in-law to be brought into the room and stripped. Even as the audience finds it difficult to process the extensive scenes of custodial torture in Viduthalai, the state of Tamil Nadu is witnessing a real life case that mirrors the brutality that was shown on screen. Just a few days before Viduthalai came out, three men alleged on video that...

Kamal Haasan has said that the sequel to ‘Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu’, his immensely popular action thriller with director Gautham Menon, was very much on the cards. Kamal Haasan, who participated in the recent trailer launch of director Gautham Menon’s upcoming film ‘Vendhu Thanindhadhu Kaadu’, said: “Gautham Menon had discussed the gist of ‘Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu 2’ a couple of years ago. Sadly, Corona played spoilsport.”
“However, it will definitely happen again. Vels Film International has been asking me to a do movie for them, and I am not ready to miss out such opportunities. We will finalise the project at the earliest.”
The actor went on to say that it was the fans who had elevated the standard of Tamil cinema and not the makers.
“I haven’t contributed to Tamil cinema on my own, and it’s the movie industry that escalates and degrades itself. The (film) industry must keep giving new and fresh movies,...

The disintegration of the partnership between Woody Allen and Mia Farrow is the focus of the new four-part docuseries Allen v. Farrow, which aired its first episode on Sunday, February 21st. The final episode aired Sunday, March 14th, on HBO.
The docuseries goes caustically in-depth about the sexual abuse allegations levied against Allen by their adopted daughter Dylan Farrow — and, to a lesser extent, Allen’s affair with another of Mia’s adopted daughters, Soon-Yi Previn — as well as the aftermath of the bitter and public custody battle on the Farrow family.

The makers of Ek Villain are perplexed. For unexplained reasons, there is a small online faction that has suddenly started alleging that the Mohit Suri-directed film is similar in certain parts to the Korean film, I Saw The Devil. The assumptions began after the official new trailer of Ek Villain was released online recently.
However, it is apparent that there is not even an ounce of similarity between the two films.
"If the presence of a serial killer in both the films makes the script a candidate for plagiarism then even Kamal Haasan's Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu could fall in the same bracket. Oh yes, add Rajesh Khanna's Red Rose to the list too. Weren't the central antagonists in each of these films deriving pleasure out of killing? By that logic, each of these films is lifted," says a senior crew member in an irate tone.

In spite of the sleeper-hit F.A.L.T.U, Vashu Bhagnani's son Jackky's career seems stuck, first for the want of a top notch leading lady and now for a director. First it was the Fa.L.T.U director Remo D'Souza who begged off from doing a sequel. Apparently, relations between the two soured during the making of F.A.L.T.U to the extent that Remo had confided to a cast member that he would not return for the Fa.L.T.U sequel.
Rajkumar Santoshi who had been signed by the Bhagnanis to direct the son is directing another film with Abhay Deol in the lead.
The latest we hear is that Vashu has bought the rights of a Telugu hit Ala Modalaindi which he wants Gautham Menon to remake in Hindi with Jackky in the lead.

New Delhi, Jan 27: Shah Rukh Khan is apparently in a dilemma, as he is unable to choose between the remake of two Tamil films - Menon's Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu and Murugadoss's Ramanna.
Rumour has it, that both the films are looking equally tempting to King Khan, as they would be providing him with the opportunity to essay the kind of characters which he hasn't portrayed as yet in his career.
"While Murugadoss's film casts Srk as a social crusader, Menon's film casts him as a cop, a role he has played just once in Shashilal Nair's One 2 Ka 4. Srk has never got a chance to get into a khaki uniform. This, Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu.

Shah Rukh Khan is in a dilemma. He has to choose between the remakes of two Tamil remakes, A R Murogadoss' Ramanna and Gautham Menon's Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu. Both offer the picky superstar Khan a chance to do something he hasn't done before. A South Indian remake with parts that he hasn't tried before. Says a source, "While Murugadoss' film casts Srk as a social crusader, Menon's film casts him as a cop, a role he has played just once in Shashilal Nair's One 2 Ka 4 and that too a plain-clothed cop. Srk has never got a chance to get into khaki uniform. This, Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu will let him do." Indeed, Gautham Menon informs that Shah Rukh is the only choice for the Hindi remake of Vettaiyaadi Vilaiyaadi. Contrary to reports, Salman Khan is not up for consideration for the Hindi adaptation of the Gautham Menon's 2006 Tamil hit Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu.
