  • In São Paulo, the incorruptible drug enforcement detectives Tom (Alexandre Frota) and Nil (Marcos Manzano) are investigating the deaths of call girls. Their boss Dudão (Felipe Levy) is pressed by the secretary of Public Security to solve the case. Tom is in love with his girlfriend Natália (Gretchen) and he goes with Nil to talk with madam Lili (Neide Ribeiro) that runs a call-girl business. She points out the name of her client Roque (Raymundo de Souza) to the detectives. Then they meet the informer Tigrão (Bim Bim) that tells that the drug dealer Carlão (Anselmo Vasconcelos) might be involved in the case.

Meanwhile the trafficker Suzana (Lilian Ramos), who is the wife of the Bolivian drug lord Hernandes (José Miziara), brings a load of cocaine by train and is welcomed at the station by the gangsters Marcos (Luiz Petri) and Roque. Their driver Satà (Satã) brings the trio to meet the chief Branca (Elizabeth Winkler). Then they go to the house of the head of the organization Senador (Edgard Franco) and they are introduced to his daughter Rose (Patrícia Salgado) and her fiancé Flávio (Olavo Castanha). On the next morning, Suzana goes with Branca's lover Beto (Atílio Assunpção) to have sex with him, but they are surprised by Branca and Satà that executes Suzana. Then they dump her body in a river.

The investigation of Tom and Nil affects the operations of the Senador and he uses his political knowledge to drop the agents from the case. But Tom and Nil insist to investigate and Satã kills Tom. Now Nil seeks revenge and her meets Hernandes to make a deal since the enemy of his enemy is his friend.

"A Rota do Brilho" is a Brazilian production from the "Boca do Lixo" (Garbage Mouth) and directed by Deni Cavalcanti. The story is a collection of clichés and nudity of women with flawed screenplay, poor acting and vulgar dialogs with wrong Portuguese. The plot has many flaws, like for example (1) why the wife of a drug lord needs to act like a mule? (2) what has happened to Natália? (3) when Branca was arrested by Nil? (4) why Branca stays cuffed alone in Nil's car instead of running away? (5) the rushed conclusion (6) lack of consistency in many scenes. José Miziara speaking in Spanish is hilarious. The "actress" Lilian Ramos had her moment of glory in the 90's when she was photographed with the Brazilian President Itamar Franco without underpants. The use of the Blade Runner theme when the fishermen find Suzana's corpse in the river is also hilarious. Anyway, the lame "A Rota do Brilho" is among the best movies produced by the "Boca do Lixo". My vote is six.

Title (Brazil): "A Rota do Brilho" ("The Route of the Coke")
