Whether the show didn’t land with audiences, or a scandal or tragedy resulted in an unexpected immediate withdrawal from the broadcasting schedule, we’ve rounded up the television shows that got pulled from air after just one episode. While some shows did eventually air the remainder of the episodes in the can, all of these shows were scrapped from the get-go for various reasons.

Heather Graham is making her way back to television.
Graham, whose last foray into TV was the ill-fated ABC sitcom "Emily's Reasons Why Not," is joining Season 7 of Showtime comedy "Californication" for a season-long arc, Deadline reports. She will play a woman from Hank's (David Duchovny) past whose arrival disturbs his life.
Also joining the show for a three-episode arc in Season 7 is "24" alum Mary Lynn Rajskub. She'll be portraying a neurotic writer.
This bit of casting news comes just a few days after word that "Sopranos" alum Michael Imperioli has joined the show in a major recurring role, as well. He'll be playing Rick Rath, a successful old-school television producer who will play a key role in Hank's latest venture.
The 12-episode season will go into production at the end of April, eyeing a premiere in 2014.

Subject: Heather Graham, 41-year old American actress
Date of Assessment: June 8, 2011
Positive Buzzwords: Nudity, beauty, sleep
Negative Buzzwords: Romcom, limited appeal and talent
The Case: People like to talk about the so-called "downward trajectory" that Heather Graham's career has supposedly taken. Still, she's worked steadily since her first movie role in 1988's License to Drive (the one where both Coreys stuffed her in a car trunk), which she followed up with an acclaimed turn in Drugstore Cowboy and an adorable character, Annie Blackburn, on the second season of "Twin Peaks." Then, she toiled away in relative obscurity for nearly five years until she stunned audiences (or at least myself) as Jon Favreau's dance partner in the last act of Swingers and appeared alongside Robert Downey Jr. in Two Girls and a Guy. Then, Heather became the very naked Rollergirl in Boogie Nights, which was a pretty overrated movie...

Word came down over the weekend that "The Paul Reiser Show," had been cancelled after only two episodes, due to poor reviews and dreadful ratings. It wasn't a huge surprise: It wasn't a very good show; NBC had very little faith in it (the network pushed back its premiere nearly a full television year); Paul Reiser is not exactly popular, having disappeared from television and film after the end of "Mad About You"; and the debut episode was the lowest-rated in-season comedy debut ever on NBC, scoring only 3.4 million viewers. (The time slot will be occupied by "The Office" reruns for the rest of the season).
Given the time and money put into a scripted series, it takes a particularly nasty brand of heinous to get yanked that quickly. But, two episodes is not the quickest a scripted television series has been pulled off the air. There are quite a few reality ("The Hasselhoffs,...

Got a scoop request? An anonymous tip you’re dying to share? Just want to say hi? You can send any/all of the above to ausielloscoop@ew.com Question: Is Izzie really pregnant on Grey's Anatomy? —Elle Ausiello: I'll say this: ABC's promo gurus are very sneaky! While we're on the subject of Katherine Heigl, sources confirm to me exclusively that she's taking another leave of absence from Grey's — but this time her reasons are personal, not professional. Heigl will be going on a belated maternity leave to spend some Qt with new daughter Naleigh. As a result, Izzie...

When the CW announced they were relaunching the iconic 90s Fox nighttime soap opera Melrose Place, the first question for many gay viewers was what the show would do with the character of Matt Fielding.
While Matt was one of the first regularly occurring gay roles on television, he was also a sexless character usually playing a supporting part in other character’s storylines. And when Matt did finally have a boyfriend, Fox was so concerned about showing the kiss that they cut away from the big moment.
Fast forward 17 years to the new Melrose Place. While Melrose 2.0 doesn’t have a gay character amongst the regularly occurring roles, the show does include Caleb Brewer, played by Victor Webster, as the ruthless boss of the publicity firm where Ella Simms, the show’s new vixen, works. We haven’t seen much of Caleb thus far, but we do know he smokes cigars,...

ABC unveils post-'MNF' midseason plans
ABC has its midseason game plan in place to kick off a new programming lineup once Monday Night Football leaves the air. Beginning Jan. 9, the new series Emily's Reasons Why Not will lead a new 9-10 p.m. comedy block, paired with returning midseason half-hour Jake in Progress. They will be hammocked between Wife Swap, which will stay in the 8 p.m. slot it has occupied since the new fall season began, and The Bachelor, which will return for its eighth season at 10 p.m. The new night of programming is important to ABC, which will seek to establish entertainment programming on Mondays all season long going forward given that "MNF" won't be back next fall.
