Pauly Shore wrote on Instagram that he was “up all night crying” after Richard Simmons continued to publicly distance himself from the biopic on his life that Shore is attached to star in. Furthermore, Simmons revealed on his social media platforms that he’s talking to film studios about making his own biopic.
“I just read that a man that I don’t know is writing my bio pic starring Pauly Shore,” Simmons posted earlier this week. “I do not approve this movie. I am in talks with major studios to create my own biopic with some help. Wait for this movie.”
Shore’s Simmons biopic, which the fitness icon is not involved with, is now in development at Warner Bros. subsidiary The Wolper Organization from writer Jordan Allen-Dutton.
“I was up all night crying regarding Richard Simmons’ tweet,” Shore responded. “Richard, how do you not approve of this movie?...

Bold and the Beautiful had Poppy Nozawa ditch her drugs, but after a few times repeating that she got rid of them, it sounds like problems are about to surface on the CBS soap. It’s been a while since Steven Spielberg has dabbled in the world of extra-terrestrials, but according to a report from Variety, the acclaimed director is working on a UFO movie which will likely be his next project.
Sources told Variety that the UFO movie is based on Steven Spielberg’s own original idea and that David Koepp is writing the screenplay. Unfortunately, that’s all the information we have at this point, but a UFO movie from the man who gave us Close Encounters of the Third Kind and E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial is hard to ignore. Koepp has penned a handful of Spielberg movies, including Jurassic Park, The Lost World: Jurassic Park, War of the Worlds, and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Ereban: Shadow Legacy is further proof that 2024 is the year of the AA game, following on from other fun surprises like Helldivers 2 and Outcast: A New Beginning. This third person stealth platformer takes inspiration from titles like Splatoon and Prince of Persia, with a hint of Assassin’s Creed sprinkled in there for good measure.
Created by Baby Robot Games is a young indie studio from Spain, the game puts a unique spin on an amalgamation of borrowed genre tropes to create something fun and cool to look at. Considering this is the developer’s debut game, it is seriously impressive and could well make its way on to the most underrated games of 2024 list at the end of the year.

Children of the Sun is a pulpy fever dream developed by one man and published by Devolver Digital. If you took Suda 51’s Killer7, and combined it with Sniper Elite, SuperHot and Mandy, then you’d end up with something resembling René Rother’s Children of the Sun. It works beyond just being a dynamic piece of visual art too, containing some extremely satisfying gameplay that feels crunchy and tactile.
Children of the Sun is out now for PC.
Let’s just get the discussion of the game’s visuals out of the way first, because Children of the Sun is truly striking to look at. In terms of its presentation, it resembles a particularly nasty 70s grindhouse movie that has been thoroughly soaked in bleach. It is extremely stylish, at times reminding me a lot of the visual flair seen in El Paso, Elsewhere.

Spirit City: Lofi Sessions is a productivity toolkit for gamified productivity sessions. It is an application aimed at individuals who want to enhance their productivity or who experience trouble focusing on work.
It offers various tools to make one’s work session more productive, such as LoFi beats with ambient sounds, work timers, To-Do lists, etc. These tools aren’t pathbreaking; most readers might have heard about them. However, the application’s Usp lies in allowing users to use all of these tools or just one of them. It made my work a lot more fun than it is otherwise.
Spirit City: Lofi Sessions has visuals that make it seem almost identical to the typical LoFi productivity videos broadcast on YouTube. However, it offers a lot more depth. But does it possess more substance and value than just coupling a LoFi playlist with a piece of paper?

Modern co-op games are often manifestations of a troubled mind. There are few instances where these games know exactly who they are (with a few broken bits), and at some point, devs and designers manage to fix it. Unfortunately, that’s simply not the case with Ascendant Infinity, an online co-op title being developed by PlayFusion.
At its foundations, Ascendant Infinity is a competitive co-op title that mixes PvE elements with 3v3v3v3 gunplay. The developers have tried convincing players that the game has everything you’d need for an adrenaline-filled first-person shooter experience that doesn’t take itself seriously. Well, that’s unfortunate, because I hope the makers of this game take it seriously and fix its core problems.
At the time of writing, the Closed Beta version of the game is live between April 5 and 6.

The anxiety of something as adrenaline-inducing as Russian Roulette lies in its unpredictable circumstances. It’s almost ironic how a game of pure luck can grow increasingly thrilling even though nothing is truly in your control. Except, in the case of Buckshot Roulette, luck is merely an illusion. The game’s immaculate design and choice of themes fool you into believing you’re in control, yet gives you ample choice over how things go.
In my time playing through the indie table-top horror game that originally came from itch.io, I found myself at the edge of my seat, breaking my head over every possible ‘right’ decision I could take for my character. This may seem like a paradox because, at the start Buckshot Roulette, a shotgun and a couple of rounds in it decide my fate before I can make sense of why I’m even doing this to myself.

George Schlatter's and Digby Wolfe's 1969 TV series "Turn-On" is one of the most notorious flops in TV history. On the night of its debut episode, an ABC affiliate in Cleveland, Ohio only allowed ten minutes of the 30-minute show to elapse before pulling it from the air, filling the remaining time with intermission-ready organ music. According to newspaper reports from the time, "Turn-On" received many, many angry phone calls. By the time "Turn-On" was to debut on the West Coast time zones, it had already been canceled. It's the only show in history to be canceled in the middle of its debut broadcast.
"Turn-On" was lambasted for being ribald and controversial -- there were numerous gags about sex and sexuality -- but more than anything, it was just off-putting and strange. The premise was high-concept: in the show's very first scene, a pair of engineers sit down at...

Paris-based sales outfit Cat&Docs has acquired “Unclickable,” Greek director Babis Makridis’ investigation into the murky world of digital ad fraud, ahead of its world premiere March 10 at the Thessaloniki Documentary Festival. Variety has been given exclusive access to the film’s trailer (see below).
“Unclickable” follows a former tech executive who gathers a team of software developers and sets out to build a digital advertising fraud operation. Working from a basement in an undisclosed location, they manage to defraud a number of high-profile advertisers — including the Trump campaign and a series of pro-Biden organizations — in just a matter of weeks during the 2020 U.S. presidential election.
As the operation unfolds, the film lifts a lid on the shadowy world of digital advertising and the role played by tech giants Google and Facebook, while also spotlighting the known and lesser-known victims of ad fraud and addressing its impact on the internet economy.

So far in the history of “killer bear” cinema, only Grizzly Park opens with an excerpt from The Bible. As “The Children Destroyed by Bears” goes (without getting too deep into other interpretations), a pair of bears mauled many kiddos after they insulted God’s prophet. The absurdity of such a tale would naturally lead to a movie just as, if not more inane. However, who or what exactly is pulling the strings in Tom Skull’s one and only directed feature is not so clear, at first. Is this fuzzy destroyer acting of its own free will, being manipulated by a human, or is there really an omnipotent force meting out bizarre retribution for naughty youths? In a movie as oddball as Grizzly Park, not a single one of those notions would be considered unsuitable.

Sundance Film Festival ran from January 18-28 and, after a sluggish start, there were deals (click here for the latest), celebrity sightings, and a protest.
Christopher Nolan turned up to collect an honourary award at the festival’s opening night gala fundraiser and called the occasion a “full circle moment” 23 years after premeiring his breakout thriller Memento there back in 2001.
Kristen Stewart also attended the gala and starred in two films this year, while celebrity guests included Robert Downey Jr., Will Ferrell, and Malia Obama, who managed to attend somewhat under the radar with her short film The Heart credited to Malia Ann.

This year celebrates 25 years since the final year of the 1900’s. A year that brought about such classics as The Matrix, Fight Club, American Pie, and Office Space as well as my personal favorite movie of all time: Arlington Road. The year was so successful that 20 years later it would inspire a book titled Best Movie Year Ever.
With a vast cannon of films ranging from highly anticipated block busting prequels (Star Wars: Episode 1- The Phantom Menace) to that years’ eventual Best Picture winner American Beauty and a movie that changed the meaning of twist endings forever (The Sixth Sense) 1999 truly was a year for the ages.
I will be honest, after compiling last weeks list for Best Movies from 1994 and now this list, I have to say 1994 was far more deserving of its own book! But that isn’t to say that 1999 doesn’t have a number of...

Sunday Am Writethru: There’s not much going on at the weekend box office. Yes, point fingers at the dual strikes’ impact on the theatrical schedule. But it’s also January, which typically counts a couple of the year’s lowest-grossing weekends. The 3-day for all titles is looking at $68M, which is not only the first weak weekend of the New Year, but 8% off the same frame a year ago, which did $72.4M. Per Box Office Mojo, the first two weekends of January grossed $85.7M and $97M, respectively.

Kieran Culkin is in Park City, Utah, for the Sundance Film Festival, but he’s still delivering mic drop moments on stage much like he did when he cleaned up at the recent Golden Globes, Critics Choice Awards and Emmys.
Culkin joined his A Real Pain collaborators at the Eccles Theater on Saturday afternoon for the world premiere of the film, directed by Jesse Eisenberg and starring the filmmaker alongside Culkin, Will Sharpe and Jennifer Grey. The plot follows mismatched cousins David and Benji who reunite for a tour through Poland to honor their beloved grandmother.
After the credits rolled, the film got a standing ovation and the energy kept flowing through the Q&a with a slew of amusing moments. Top of the list is when Culkin described what it was like to work with and for Eisenberg. “There was a pretty good rapport right away,” said the Succession star.

As far as festival blurbs go, the plot description for filmmaking team Sam and Andy Zuchero’s Love Me is one of the more unique entries, causing many Sundance attendees to question what it could possibly mean.
“Long after humanity’s extinction, a buoy and a satellite meet online and fall in love,” reads the official Sundance listing that immediately brings to mind a whole host of questions. So The Hollywood Reporter went as close to the source as possible Thursday night by asking Kristen Stewart, who stars opposite Steven Yeun in the Zuchero’s experimental indie, how she describes it and what it all means.
“The movie jumps the throat of identity. It really jumps down the throat of trying to affix any feeling we have to a word or identifier, a flag, a stake. Every five minutes we can just flip flop, and the overriding echo [is] if we...

TikTok has taken the world by storm — skyrocketing in use amid the pandemic as a source of entertainment and human connection — and now it wants to change the way Hollywood markets movies and TV series. The social video platform is hoping to make inroads at its first Sundance Film Festival — and it’s bringing a dozen people from its creators program to Park City.
Catherine Halaby, the head of entertainment for TikTok in North America, says Sundance creates an opportunity to support established and emerging creators and “uplevel their content and their industry savvy and their exposure.” She adds, “We’re really thinking from a content-first perspective and how we can be an accelerant to those creators in their growth on and off platform.”

On January 18, 2004, Showtime made history with “The L Word”: a spaghetti-strapped melodrama about twiggy lesbians living against a golden-filtered backdrop of mid-aughts Los Angeles.
The stroke of entertainment genius from creator/executive producer Ilene Chaiken premiered that Sunday night in two parts, introducing a revolutionary cast of LGBTQ characters who would change the face and ritual of lesbian pop culture forever. From the moment Jenny (Mia Kirshner) laid eyes on Marina (Karina Lombard)…even before Bette (Jennifer Beals) and Tina (Laurel Holloman) tried to steal that dude’s sperm…or Shane (Katherine Moennig) showed up wearing that leather vest….countless TV-loving shes, theys, and gays saw themselves reflected in a fizzy fictional universe that was finally, mercifully grounded in a semi-authentic lesbian reality.
Fast forward to 2019; the reboot happened. Showtime’s “The L Word: Generation Q” served as both a revamp of the initial concept with new characters and...

It’s the question all indie filmmakers want to know: What do Sundance Film Festival programmers look for? Or more to the point: How do I get into Sundance? Funny you should ask! Last year in August, Film Independent Education hosted an online session of its Filmmaker Tuesdays series featuring two of the storied fest’s curators: feature programmers Ash Hoyle and Sudeep Sharma.
Together they answered a wide variety of questions, addressed suspicions as to what supposedly makes a “Sundance film” and debunked whether or not “Who you know” is really all that matters. Watch the full session in our Member portal. Not a Member? Become one today.

"Percy Jackson And The Olympians" may have just debuted on Disney+, but the show's young cast is already thinking ahead to the future. In a recent Deadline story, it wasn't the second season on their minds, but something even bigger: a crossover event with one of the streamers' flagship franchises, the Marvel Cinematic Universe. "I hope that there will eventually be an Avengers–Percy Jackson crossover," Grover actor Aryan Simhadri told the outlet, earning nods of approval from co-stars Walker Scobell and Leah Sava Jeffries.
Obviously, Marvel doesn't really do inter-franchise crossovers, but Simhadri's idea isn't that out there as the massive superhero machine isn't immune to passionate calls for cameos. Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire appeared in "Spider-Man: No Way Home" after fans wished and hoped for their returns for years, while Megan Thee Stallion ended up in "She-Hulk: Attorney at Law" after mutual friend Jameela Jamil found out...

South Park has satirized all corners of American pop culture over its 26-season run. The show’s latest Paramount+ special took on the creator economy by poking fun at OnlyFans, Logan Paul, and the questionable influencer marketing practices Paul has used to advertise his beverage brand.
The special, titled South Park: Not Suitable For Children, is the sixth South Park installment that Trey Parker and Matt Stone have released exclusively on Paramount+. The 42-minute program centers around a sports drink called Cred — a thinly veiled reference to Paul and Ksi’s Prime. The kids at South Park Elementary are trying to acquire as many bottles of Cred as they can. Meanwhile, in videos that resemble the Prime Super Bowl ad, a South Park-ified version of Paul named Logan LeDouche inspires the kids to express their individuality (by buying Cred).

After many years of being unavailable, James Cameron’s True Lies is finally out as a title we can purchase. iTunes just released the 4K remastering for Digital Download, alongside two other James Cameron classics, The Abyss and Aliens. The 4K Blu-ray will be out in March, but the movie’s possibly AI-assisted restoration is already proving to be controversial. Our own Luke Ryan, who ran the long-running Movie Endings Explained series for us on JoBlo Originals, took to Twitter (or X) to post some disturbing screenshots from the film, which suggests the film looks far different now than it did back in 1994.
James Cameron has absolutely lost his fucking mind, allowing this to be done to his films. The True Lies 4K "remaster" is out and yeah, Peter Jackson's Park Row AI treatment has been Slathered all over it. I'll say it again, this digital painting Over Film is fucking disgusting.

Obituaries are never easy to write, but this one hits particularly hard given the feeling of so much great work still to come: Andre Braugher, who made a name for himself playing a variety of authority figures in dramas and comedies has died following a brief illness. He was just 61.
André Keith Braugher was born in Chicago in 1962. The prodigious student attended the prestigious St. Ignatius College Prep in his hometown, then earned a BA from Stanford University and a master*s degree from Juilliard — he received scholarships to all three schools.
He considered medicine as a career but saw performing as more exciting. His initial work, as with so many others, was on the stage, in Public Theater Shakespeare in the Park productions in New York City, playing parts in various productions over the years.

All the way back in 2009, Stone and Parker poked fun at the rapper and his ego in the South Park episode ‘Fishsticks.’ The duo expected the episode would eventually reach West, and anticipated a harsh and maybe overblown response.
