Betty Boop,still popular in the present days...Boop-Oop-A-Doop !

Of course that are people who never watched a Betty Boop's movie, but for such an old character from the 30's, she still is very popular. With her sexuality, Betty was a hit at that time and she is the first cartoon character to fully represent a sexual woman. She wore short dresses,her breasts were prominent, and she showed her cleavage, but her personality was always more like a girl-like. (Specially because I discovered that she was only 16 years old!) I usually like her a lot, but in ''The Romance of Betty Boop'', Betty acts as a woman who only cares about her husband's money,since she is tired of working and is interested in a millionaire. This made me found the character less appealing then in other episodes.

But happily she learns her lesson in the end, when she sees that a guy being a millionaire doesn't mean anything, specially because the poor guy who sells ice ( I forgot his name right now), is the one who really cares about her and goes to save her from a gangster.

In 1939, in New York, Betty Boop is a girl adored by her neighbors and a hard worker: she sells shoes in a shoe store along the day, and sings in the Bubble Club in the night. Betty Boop dreams with the handsome millionaire Wando Van Lavish, for whom she is in love. The simple and honest Fred, who sells bars of ice on the streets of her neighborhood, has a crush on her. Meanwhile, Betty meets Wando in the night-club and he invites her for a date. Then, he schedules a meeting at his parent's house, and Betty Boop believes he will propose her. When her uncle Mischa, the owner of the Bubble Club, is threatened by the gang of the mobster Throat because he can not afford to pay his debts with him, the gangster decides to take the club and Betty Boop for him. The gang kidnaps Betty, and she escapes, but the criminals follow her with the intention of killing her. She runaway with the coward Wando, but is saved by Fred. Betty is introduced by Wando to his parents to be a maid and she leaves him and finds that Fred cares for her.

Betty Boop is a sweet character ahead of time and a symbol of the liberation of women: sexy, wearing mini-skirt, independent and hard worker. In this episode, she learns that true love is not possible to be programmed. Further, that there is a fight of classes in the capitalism. But I believe she prefers her freedom in the end. My vote is eight.

With the way this show has Betty working two jobs and the way at night she works for her uncle as a dancing girl in his night club I really like what happens when the ice man helps Betty's uncle with the problems of those gangsters because this shows things like they were back in the 1930's of having those gangsters that would be rough on people over money and how some others care for those people. One of the funniest scenes near the start of the film is when the ice man takes a block of ice up the stairs to Betty and by the time he gets to her Apartment the ice has melted down to the size of a cube that will fit in her cup. That is one thing i get a laugh out of.
