  • Stagecoach robberies are threatening to destroy the bank. Somehow, the masked bandit knows when cash payroll shipments are being made. He always shoots the driver so there are no witnesses. John Portis, the owner of the stage line, thinks the lady bank president, Mabel Howard, is to blame and loudly proclaims that a woman has no business running a bank! Mrs Howard has a seemingly loyal employee, Bill Breck, who is actually tipping off bandit Mike about the cash shipments. The Ranger disguises himself as a crippled old prospector who can identify the bandit. He says he wants a $10,000 reward for pointing out the criminal. When told that Portis and Howard will have to think about that large a reward, the old prospector says he will wait in a shack outside of town. Mabel tells him to be careful, and the disguised Ranger says that he will be "as careful as a fat man crossin' a foot bridge." Will the villains fall into our heroes' trap? These bad guys are completely ruthless. Esther Somers is quite convincing as Mabel. She was born in Russia in 1893 and only had an 11 year career in Hollywood, from 1946-1957. She died in 1986 at the age of 86.
